I’m taking about race track not drag racing or top speed racing! :-) C4 ZR1 and C5 ZO6 both out perform cars like Ferrari F40, Ferrari F50, Lamborghini Countach, Lamborghini Diablo, Jaguar XJR-15, Jaguar XJ220, Cizeta V16T, Vector W8, Viper GTS-R, Viper ACR, Porsche 959 and maybe Porsche 911 GT1! :-) The only 5 other cars that could out perform the C4 ZR1 and C5 ZO6 was the McLaren F1, McLaren F1 LM, Mercedes Benz CLK GTR and Mercedes Benz CLK GTR AMG Super Sport, Panoz Esperante GTR-1 Road Car and Bugatti EB110 Super Sport! :-) With proper tires C4/C5 base does 0-60 in 4.2 to 4.1 seconds and C4 ZR1/C5 4.0 to 3.9 seconds! :-) Top Speed for base C4/C5 is 175 to 180mph and for the C4 ZR1/C5 ZO6 is 186 to 175mph and keep in mind Ford Mustang GT California special does 0-60 in 4 seconds and 186mph with a 420hp 5.0L NA V8 engine also with 6 speed automatic also known as the 6R80 which is GMs 6L80 transmission for use in Ford vehicles! :-) Fun fact, the White Viper Prototype back in 1988/1989 was based on a C4 Corvette! :-) C6 ZR1 outperformed cars like the Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, Lamborghini Revetnton, Porsche Carrera GT, Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren 722, Viper ACR, Mustang Shelby GT500 and Saleen S7! :-) The only other 5 cars that could outperform the C6 ZR1 was the SSC Ultimate Arrow, Bugatti Veyron, Koenigsegg CCXR, Saleen S7 Twin Turbo, Pagani Zonda and Ultima GTR! :-) C7 ZR1 competition is the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, Ferrari Laferrari, Porsche 918, McLaren P1, Viper ACR, Viper GTS-R, Mustang Shelby GT500 and Ford GT! :-) Cars faster then the C7 ZR1 are Koenigsegg Agera RS1, Ultima RS, Bugatti Veyron, Bugatti Chiron and Pagani Huayra! :-) Plus C4, C5, C6 and C7 are on GMs Y-Body/Chassis platform which was designed in the mid 1970s and ran from 1983/1984-2019! :-) This new platform is loosely derived from the old platform! :-) One ect in common with the C8 all new platform and the Y2XX Platform uses a backbone similar to Y-Body/Chassis Platform and takes inspiration from that platform! :-) Old platform is called Y1XX and the new platform is Y2XX which means the Y-Body/Chassis Platform is in it’s second generation! :-) There’s another Y Platform that ran from 1960 to 1963 has nothing to do with the Corvette! :-) L83 made 210hp and the L98 made 235hp all the way to 257hp! :-) Everything from the LT1, LT4, LS1, LS6, LS2, LS3, LS7, LS9, New LT engines have to thank the LT5 in the C4 ZR1! :-) severally underrated the power of the LT1, LT4, LS1, LT5 and LS6 for C4 and C5! :-) LT1 360hp, LT4 370hp, LS1 365hp, LS1 370hp, LT5 420hp and LS6 420hp! :-) Ford underrated the Mustang SVT Cobra engine which was a 4.6 L supercharged V8 that produced 420 hp! :-) Ford going after C4 ZR1 and C5 ZO6 plus Viper GTS-R and ACR with SVT Cobra and SVT Cobra R it has a 5.4 L naturally aspirated V8 that produced 385 hp! :-) Lotus went racing with the LT5! :-) They used it in their own race car for LM Racing plus they also use the Viper engine as well! :-) Base Corvettes are super cars and the reason is they compete with Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren and Audi! :-) Base C4, C5, C6 and C7 Corvettes compete against Ferrari F355, 360, F430, 458 and ect, Lamborghini Jalpa, P140 Concept, Calà Concept, Gallardo, Huracan and ect, Porsche , 911 GT3, 911 turbo, 911 GT2 and ect, McLaren MP4-12C and ect , 2005 to 2006 Ford GT, Dodge Viper base and Audi R8! :-) The Mustang GTD is in between the C8 ZO6 and C8 ZR1 performance wise! :-) C8 Stingray is a super car, C8 Eray is a super car, C8 ZO6 is super car/hyper car, C8 ZR1 is a hyper car and C8 Zora is an extreme hyper car competing with Koenigsegg, Bugatti and Aston Martin! :-)

We love our 2023 3LT HTC non-Z51 Arctic White with magnetic ride, front lift, performance exhaust, front splitter, black exhaust tips, two tone (black/red) interior and carbon flash painted top, nacelles, low spoiler, mirrors, intake blades, and wheels is the perfect car for us. We will never track it and it’s capable of more performance than we will ever need. Our 2nd Corvette and the best vehicle this 76yo has ever driven. I am 6’2” and 220#, the C7s I drove felt very cramped. Our HTC doesn’t transmit any mechanical noise from the engine and we can roll down the rear window so the music from the performance exhaust can easily be heard even with the top up. I am really happy with this vehicle and glad I bought it.

Do you rebuild the headlight motors. I bought a new one from ZIP Corvette for my C4 is starting to act up on me. But if I could get the original fixed it would be a blessing. My name is Sergio out Texas City Tx. Thank you in advance.

That really sucks. My mom and Dad had a home in Tideview Estates in Ellenton, not too far from you and it was totally wiped off the earth by hurricane Milton. The whole area was heavily damaged. The wheel can be fixed. I had a wheel that got hit by a huge stone that fell from the side of a road. I thought it was gone but the wheel repair guy fixed it tot he point of not even knowing it was damaged. The moral of the story....stay out of Hurricanes with Corvettes.

Lyle & viewers, I've had over 3 dozen C5-C7 Corvettes and worked on 5x that as well. While I do agree, not everyone needs coilovers, I don't believe this is a good apples to apples comparison. Soft shocks there are 3 levels & the Mag Ride shocks. Bilstein shocks for comfort, DRM Revalved Bilsteins for performance, and Koni Yellows for even more with some adjustment. Mag ride, really you can delete it and re-code the C5/C6s with a Tech2 or Similar to not have the F55 Suspension Option and the button can be left to do nothing. Then you can install shocks, coilovers, or whatever without issue. Some higher end shocks like MCS, KW v3s, and some Penske's can be installed with leaf springs but are an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT setup to the coilovers. On C5's MANY people use C6Z shocks which is fine for up front, but the rear C6Z shocks are shorter than the C5 Shocks so you have less travel and hit your bump stops more. Even if you lower your car on lowering bolts as low as you can this is a major issue! I have ran C6Z front shocks with C5Z06 new 04 rear shocks and the car performed well, but not as good as DRM Shocks or the Koni Yellows either. The Leaf Springs not only act as a spring or the shock per side, but also have an anti-roll/sway bar like effect to the front suspension to tie things together. There's more in-depth explaining, but that's a short basic concept for a KZbin Comment. The C7 has a flashable Mag Ride controller inside the fender OR you can swap it for a new unit that's better and tunable as well. C5-C6 coilover options are very wide but just because it's for sale, doesn't mean it's good. Entry Level coilovers like Silvers or Fortune Auto are about the only brands I recommend on a budget. Pick a good spring rate for your ACTUAL use and it does race level installation to ensure bump travel, bump stops, droop, and ride heights are all proper. The performance coilovers like the LG GT2s or their G2's are great at still being streetable while handling track use as well. Fortune Auto also has some upgrade path for their shocks, but unless you picked Fortunes OR live in Virginia, I wouldn't recommend past the 510 Series. The KW V3's are also in this section but at $3500 they are more compared to the upper end coilovers for price, but perform phenomenal on the Street or Track. The upper end we have MCS, Penske, JRZ, and there are other brands too but those are the most common. All are rebuildable, revalvable, and phenomenal coilovers with a HUGE success from each brand in different series' of racing. Penske is used for Autocross, Track work, and even Spec Corvette which is turning into a new Series in 2025. At the end, I'm sure people will ask what I have and that's not simple either. My C5Z06 is a bit of a frankenstein... I have modified C7 knuckles with Brembos on a C5 Corvette with FDF Front control arms. C6Z control arms and subframe in the rear with C5 Penske Coilovers and Eibach Springs for using a Spec Corvette rear spoiler and a race weight of 2770 for the car. Still has full AC, 3 point seatbelts, radio, and all. The vehicle did 13k miles last year including 22 track days and 6 autocross weekends. My fiancee also is able to read her books in the car on a 6 hour 1 way trip to the mountains for Tail of the Dragon. I even put in the C7 heated/cooled Competition seats I have to the C5 so she's happy hot or cold weather.

I like Corvettes as much as the next guy, but the 911 or the A8 are not in the same quality league... Not even close.

🎉hey, I’m 77 and I love my c8. This is the first corvette that has the style and excitement I was willing to pay for. It took me a couple of hours in the garage to work out a good entry/exit strategy of course.

Had a similar problem on my 90 - met another owner who had the same problem on a 91 and was in and out of shops with parts thrown at it - Turned out a bad fuel injector - replaced them all and the car was fine - I communicated this to the shop that hap my car got the whole it can't be that spill - told them the guy who told me built boat racing engines so not a novice - two weeks later I get a call from shop not sounding happy, guess what we found the problem - fuel injectors - they shook their heads over it - said don't know how but that was the problem.

The reasons why they did it are irrelevant to me because now I know I will never buy a new Corvette. Time for a Porsche. I’m 36 and used to own a manual C5 in my 20s. I guess Chevy was fine with losing 20% of their Corvette buyers and more importantly the future buyers who want one because dad or grandpa drove one.

Lyle, you”re comparing one apple to fifty apples; GM sells for way less than any competing car simply because of the number of cars built. GM wires off its cost over 20K-30K units annually. Many foreign car manufacturers haven’t produced that many units their entire lives.

Based on your experience, are auto trans equipped C-5's through C-7's less likely to have torque tube issues? I've heard that manual trans cars can have torque tube and clutch issues that require extensive disassembly of the rear suspension to repair.

Agree . I put them on both my 2024 C8 Z51 and my 2024 C8 Z06. Any minute throttle lag is GONE. Around town I drive the Z51 in Sport 4 and the Z06 in Sport 1 Absolutely worth every penny 😎🇺🇸
