I own a 1970. 350/350 with an M-22. Power steering, manual breaks. No A/C. One of 25 made that year due to a strike at GM. Old cars are a pain in the ass. It's mostly stock. It's a mans car. It's difficult to drive. NOT my daily. But, it looks cool.

Lyle, I know this video is from 11 months ago and as interesting as this thing is. I want one for my 2003 Z06 but this is not. Do you know or have run across an item like this for the C5 Corvette? Thanks in advance for any info you have or find.

I had an '92. C4 is a super solid platform, but Optispark sucks and also the ride quality is pretty rough. The LT1 doesn't really like to rev either. I had the six speed manual. Nice car, but don't miss it. Ride was too rough for midwest roads

you must be working for gm. I bought 08 Z06 stock with 11k miles on it. Removed heads and first exhaust valve I checked had about 12 to 15 thousands play on it. My opinion is that valve guides were installed off center and that caused uneven wear.LuckilyI was able to fix heads before something bad happened.

I merely reported what Paul Koerning told me, and he is GM's lead Corvette Tech. I made a follow-up video after interviewing a former Corvette Engineer who wished to remain anonymous that details exactly what the weak points are and why the failures occur. Check out that video...I think it will make better sense than what GM told me. Lyle

I bought a C5 for the sake of replacing my C4. Once I put the C4 up for sale, it seemed to be 10X more popular. So, I kept both.

I heard about the RoarPedal unit that is similar from one of my Corvette club friends. I have had it in my C6 for about 6 months now and it is worth every dime! It is impossible for it to add horsepower but you swear that it does by the feeling!

As the owner of a mint 1992 Corvette convertible with only 30K miles on it, that has NEVER had the engine power washed, and has only been caught in the rain a couple of times in over 30 years, I really don't understand why I am in the process of installing opti-spark number 3! Yes, my water pump had just started weeping and I am replacing it as well. But here's the thing. The opti-spark distributor was used in millions of other General Motors applications with Chevy engines in them, including taxis and law enforcement vehicles. They were constantly exposed to all kinds of weather including rain and snow, and yet it seems that only the Corvettes are plagued with this re-occurring issue. My second opti-spark (the one I'm replacing now) had a dealer installed ventilation system on it, but still, it was full of corrosion and here I am replacing it again. What gives? Why is it seemingly just the Corvettes that have this problem? I considered up-grading to the Torqhead 24X coil on plug system, but that upgrade by itself costs almost as much as an entire C4 Corvette in drive-able condition. Can you enlighten us on why this such a common issue on Corvettes.

When I got my 99 FRC last April I had emailed you pics of the OEM ones and they were worn to shit. Earlier this year i had them replaced with the Moog ones you showed and what a difference. Literally night and day. The car hugs the road with very little body lean in the twisties. Even at low speeds and going over dips I can feel how solid the car feels. Worth every penny

It's crazy to think that gm made and keeps producing this garbage. Worst thing I believe a lingenfelter 1998 c5 build was done in 2000 with less than 5k on the clock still has the stock HB on the engine.

The weirdest thing of all was 1 year only. Doesn’t make any sense. All the development, EPA certification costs, testing costs, etc for 1 year? That’s not how manufacturers do things. Add to that the LS1 was coming the next year. So they had two new Corvette engines being developed at the same time bascially. Again makes no sense. We never see the LT4 again. Again makes no sense.
@cscorvetteify
@cscorvetteify 3 күн бұрын
Austin, my best guess is that the LT4 had been in development for a long time before the LS1, and that it was going to be the "swan song" engine of the last Corvette production year. Then, John Cafaro and some other really committed guys came up with a new Corvette at a price that the bean-counters couldn't say not to, and the LT4 became the hot engine option after the LT5 was discontinued and they wanted something special for 1996. That way, the expense of making the LT4 could be at least justified (in part) on paper. Again, just a guess. :) Lyle

Other than the one in the NCM, I've seen two privately owned Challenge cars. The first, back in '07 was in the showroom of the former Grabiak Chevrolet in New Alexandria, PA. The other was at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in 2021 in which Corvette was Marque of the Year. My next C4 will be a Challenge car, no doubt. Love 'em. Absolutely love 'em. ❤️

I'm 32 and getting ready to buy my first vette, and there certainly seems to be a split in the market. I do like the c8s, and they are great as a super car, but they dont screem American muscle like older models. In my search for a vette, ive come to love each generation in its own way, but I think I'm a c6 guy. Hopefully I can get my hands on a manual gs in the near future 😂

My opinion is, (and its just an opinion) if your buying an LS7, you should have the knowledge and money to swap the heads and valve train anyway.. This shouldn't mean much for anyone in the market for a 500hp + track car. And honestly the stock heads and valvetrain + Cam hold this thing back anyway, its a 600+hp engine all day long

My 2014 was mechanically great, but the electronics were not so good. The center display console had multiple problems including image rolling, black screen and half of the screen missing. It was all traced to the ribbon cable used behind the display. Having a sliding up and down display was a gimmick that caused nothing but issues for me.

As much as I appreciate the information as I am a new owner of 1987 Convertible. I’m looking for information on the 4 +3 Doug dash transmission. haven’t gotten driving yet, but I was told the owner said that there might’ve been a transmission problem he couldn’t remember. Do you know if the transmission still works without the overdrive unit like a regular Four-speed manual. I was told if the overdrive unit does not work you will not have. Reverse. Do you know if that is true

It would have been nice to see this on the car so one knew where to look and how to look to spot damage. Can you see damage from under the car on a lift and from on top through the hood opening?

It is visible from under the car at the front, not so much from the top. I would have featured the part on a an actual car, but both of our lifts were occupied with non-C5/C6 cars this day and they were paying the bills. Lyle
