After a full day of necessity documentation, I start to question is it easier in the UK (or your country) to get the paperwork that is vital for your needs and the local governments in a 24 hour period. Also is it just a coincident that advertisements appear after discussing them and Who is listening?

In UK, to apply for or renew your passport, most often it will take months and months! Same as taking a driving test! In short, everything in UK is snail paced!

Chinese driving license is the most important. Then you can buy a fantastic Chinese domestic EV at a bargain! Parking is for free and electricity charge is a penny. How cool is that?

Hi, Mr T, you are quite sportive and energetic for a sixty- year old. And I didn't realise that one has to book an appointment for applying driving licence in UK. I remember I just sent everything to Swansea in the past. Left UK for over a decade now, have things changed?

Yeah you're right there, I should have rephrased that. No things haven't changed in the UK. My bad. 😏

The photograph taken at dedicated locations are uploaded to the government database. This can only be done by an approved person. My experience of dealing with banks in ZQ is that, there is still a lot of room for improvement. However, with so much banking being moved to internet banking, there might be a shortage in bank tellers service at the counter. Overall speaker, I find Zhaoqing administration very polite, patient and helpful.

First time I heard that you need an approved dated photo for applying for govt documents. Easier for govt to hv a camera setup to take your picture on the spot e.g. for Malaysian passports. On the positive side, you got a lot of "exercise" in the application process. Ha! Ha!

Yes, in Malaysia when we are updating/applying for identification document, our photo is taken on the spot, literally "up to date". The catch was the photography was really bad before digital camera became good enough and easily available, and that ugly photo of ours stuck with us for years.

taking photos on the spot have been tested in some cities for example Shenzhen where they have a small automatic camera in a room

In recent years, the Chinese government has introduced a policy called “At Most One Visit”. This means that if you need to handle any matters at a government department, the department should ensure that you only need to visit the service hall once to complete the process (and for some matters, you don’t even need to go to the site in person, as they can be handled online). If you encounter a situation where a government department requires multiple visits to their offline outlets to successfully handle a matter, you can try calling 12345 (the government service hotline) to make a complaint.

I'm surprised no appointments are needed. What if many people turn up all at once?

In Zhaoqing, appointment is not needed because large amount of staff can handle all these things. But in the larger city like Guangzhou, appointments are still recommended or even needed.

Tbh I don't think admin in the UK is that bad, certainly not compared to many EU countries (like France). In China, i never feel like the bureaucracy is that difficult but at times you sort of wonder why you need to register with the police (they know where you are anyway)
