This anime is actually criminally underrated. The story gets better as it progresses, and the characters, especially the side characters that give huge impacts to the story and it has some sad moments that actually doesn't feel fall flat like most all girl protagonist anime has. This actually deserves more recognition, and one of the best anime this season imo.

@@NoQuestionsAskedd I never usually respond to a comment from the ones I made months ago, but you did spoke about an anime which I never even heard before and that made me check it out afterwards and I must say that battle fairy yukikaze is a great anime with your classic fighting against aliens for humanity plot with its twist on a supercomputer that specialises in combat against the threat. An absolute underrated cult classic and has its own category along with Akira, Hellsing and a lot other og classic animes. But here's the thing tho, it's kinda unfair for both respective anime to be even compared to each other in the first place. It's unfair to yukikaze since it's a cult classic that shouldn't even made comparable to newer animes and it's unfair to senyoku no Sigrdrifa since they had the liberty and took their direction and plot devices of the story to differ from the anime it has a high chance it's inspired by. Idk much about the other two you spoke about but senyoku no Sigrdrifa, you're right about it being a bad copy paste of battle fairy yukikaze, because they didn't even try to be a copycat of the one prior to it. It is can be seen at least it was inspired by yukikaze anime, but that's it. The tone and direction the story took, the twist they add to the story by having Norse mythology as the driving factor, and the serious/depressing/sad moments they had in the anime were projected in different way, that made both animes vastly different to one another. Even the enemies they fought weren't remotely the same, one is sci-fi with imagination to be the limits and another is mythological with a lot of potential to discover since they didn't even delve deep yet into the lore of Norse mythology. The comparison here is as ridiculous as people saying kabaneri of the iron fortress is an attack on Titan ripoff, or darling in the franxx is an evangellion (probably not the right spelling) ripoff and plenty other more I heard that I couldn't recall, when none of them try to be direct copy but only inspired by their priors. Both of these are goods but in their respective time and the direction they took imo. Sorry for the long rants tho :^).

@Stargeneral410 I can’t fly but do know that a biplane can give a monoplane trouble because the Nightwitches flew PO-2’s I think and a German ace recounted how difficult it was to stay behind one without stalling. This also applies to said jet vs prop fight because the prop plane is slower making incredibly difficult to slot in on its six or even make a snapshot at. A jet is much faster and so it can’t turn as fast as a prop plane.

For those who are confused and too fucking lazy to even do a simple search, here's the synopsis for Warlords of Sigrdrifa: - "The Pillars suddenly appeared above Earth, threatening all life. A god who called himself Odin came to the aid of humanity as it was driven to near complete defeat. To counter the Pillars, Odin declared a counterattack by bequeathing humanity with the battle maidens Walküres and the "herocraft" as their wings. Several years later, the battle between humanity and Pillars rages on, with men supporting the Walküres as they soar through the treacherous skies to save the world. Japan is no exception. Three Walküres confront the giant Pillar looming over sacred Mt. Fuji. Each Walküre is skilled, but each also has issues. And now, an ace pilot has arrived from Europe. "Now is the time to fight back, humanity. The day of reckoning has arrived. The time of Ragnarok draws nears." My opinion, I may have to pass this one. The idea is too similar to Strike Witches, and I don't even like that series. The animation and visuals is lackluster. To be honest, this series is actually making me appreciate Kotobuki even more.

Well ok you just described a bunch of anime logic, but why are there obsolete Biplanes fighting alongside modern jet fighters? What time period is this? Is it a different Earth? A different dimension? And why did 1 Biplane bullet manage to do what a guided missile should be able to do? Or a nuke, of which most modern fighters are capable of carrying. Even if there still are biplanes of that type available, they would be in a museum, and if you're lucky 1 might be in flying condition. And supposing that there was 1 that could get off the ground. Why use it? It would be more trouble than it's worth. Why the heck would the military approve of a biplane piloted by a screaming underaged-looking girl who I very much doubt has any training. Instead of more jets? That biplane's going to be occupying space on whatever runway or aircraft carrier they are using in this world. And mechanics, and ammo, and fuel. Just.... I hate anime logic.

If Odin wanted to send magical girls (battle maids, likely Valkyries) with op biplanes then he can, cause he's a god, a being that can create more powerful stuff than any human tech. Lazy writing but it does at least does give an logical-ish explanation through the use of the supernatural (which is cheap). If you hate anime then why the hell have you been commenting here for past few days? Note, even Hollywood movies do cheap shit like this too, except less creatively. If you wanted more realism go watch Top Gun or a documentary, instead of bitching on something multiple times.

I get so see my favourite tanks/ planes doing stuff that aren't possible with the surviving examples nowadays. Take the Dunkirk film for example. The Spitfires and Messerschmitts are slowly drifting from side to side. No actual dogfighting, I assume because they aren't rated for it anymore or they don't want to do it with a 70+ year old aircraft. If I've got an enemy plane on my six willing to put a couple of dozen holes in my torso then I'm going to do everything possible to get him off. With tanks I don't have to see them using blanks, I get to see them recoil and other stuff with anime (Gup) although I hate the movement phisics of Gup. But back to anime, (why ask me about the reason I watch anime anyway, because I frikin want to that's why) alright so you took the time to read the story props to you, you got more patience than me. So Odin this all powerful deity instead of just wiping whatever fictional enemy to humanity this show has off the face of the planet. Decides to send _magical_ highschool girls (I assume they are higschool girls it seems to be a recurring theme in anime, got to satisfy those pedophiles) in planes that seem to be designed before WW2 (I'm referring to the biplane, I can't remember any others from this video, I watched it a while ago, and I'm not re-watching it to get triggered again). Because? We need a reason to include an obsolete biplane surviving while 2 modern jets get blown up. I don't understand anime writer's obsessions with including obsolete stuff alongside modern equipment. And why a biplane, why doesn't he send angels in flying chariots I mean it would make more sense. Or why can't he spawn a few extra nuke-carrying jets for the military to use? As you said lazy story writing. The thing is you can have both, it isn't a trade-off you have to make. You can have good graphics/ artstyle _and_ a good story too.

I am assuming they are Valkyries, which of course, they are presented something angel like. Who the hell wants to see flying chariots? Lol, really. If you think about it, it's not cool compared to modern warplanes. There's a reason why the entertainment industry sometimes throws realism out the window, I hate to break it to you because realism is boring. Go watch and compare Generation Kill with Battle Los Angeles. The former is a realistic mini-tv series, loved it for it but honestly boring, while the latter is a cool sci-fi action movie. However both are military shows. You sometimes can't have both because the compromise might make it worse. For this kind of concept, well rule of cool when it comes to the lore will have to reign supreme, doesn't mean you can't have a good character story though. Honestly, if you're too serious, you should be looking at fan art instead of anime series, cause they will disappoint you unfortunately.

Granted, the soundtrack is lit, its op and ed are fantastic, especially the ed just adds on to the overall anti-war sentiment. Yet the story is, how should I phrase it, weird and hard to understand to say the least. As someone who are not familiar with Nordic legends, I don’t get the motivation of Odin in this show. He feels like a Chunibyo, just babbling about how he doesn’t want to “die” because no human can remember him and his story. Then why does he want to destroy humanity in the first place? Gods need human to remember their tale, yet he challenges everyone? In terms of battle scenes, I don’t feel like this is an anime about aerial combat, if you substitute planes with a broom, because they can use magic, then it doesn’t matter what vehicle they use. I prefer to watch Strike Witches third season, which aired the same time as this anime. This is just my personal preference, I know some people like this show, but I don’t really. Glad you enjoy it.

I don't mind the the schoolgirls. However I watch for half a season until I couldn't take the fact that WW2 planes were outperforming modern planes. If they wanted WW2 planes to shine then they should have based the whole thing in WW2 it would've made an interesting alternate timeline anime if they had. @@tigeruntamed6036 If it was me, I would: Option A: set the story all the way back during WWII or early Cold War, where only gen 1 fighter jets like the the Sabre, MiG-15, Mystère etc. exist. And thus most pilots still fly old prop planes like the Corsair, Mustang, Skyraider & Spitfire etc. Option B: get rid of the props entirely, and give the girls underappreciated or obscure jets, like the Freestyle, Lavi, Foxhound, CF-105, Tornado, X-31 etc. Just use the excuse that 5th gens are only available in limited quantities. Option C: Go full Ace Combat Infinity and throw in literally everything, from Su-57s, F-22s, BAE Tempests, J-20s to ancient props like the P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lighting, Supermarine Spitfire, Bf 109, C.202 Folgore etc. The excuse the author gave is that the little prick called Odin only empowers aircraft based on how revered they are. It makes zero sense as 1) Why people revere a shitbox on wings like the Gloster Gladiator, an aircraft that was outdated before the war even began and sent many promising courageous young pilots to their graves, more than the Su-35S, the F-15C or the F-22A? 2) Why there isn't a single A6M Zero in the show? It's literally one of the legends of WWII and it has never appeared once! Instead we got a bunch of obscure planes like the Ki-44 Shoki that most people have never head about!

Damn, modern fighter jets deserves better. Back to playing AC7 and PW, I suppose... Overall, I'm not that interested. The plot is not that original and the fighters all looked like Rainbow Puke. Especially when you consider the fact that like GATE, Girly Air Force is endorsed officially by the JSDF, which means a hefty amount of Japanese nationalism and utter cringe.

Given that a P-51 Mustang (a much faster propeller driven aircraft) at full throttle is going bearly the same speed that a jet needs to keep itself in the air (slowest possible speed before it drops out of the flippin sky) Therefore the scene and probably the whole anime itself is ridiculous.

Same, although the speed and phisics of tanks in GuP trigger me a lot. So hopefully if anyone does something similar with planes, they don't go overboard with breaking poor Newtons laws. Actually the concept of highschool girls flying planes is more realistic than them driving tanks or maning battleships. There are plenty of flying clubs in the real world, and flight schools too.

And I enjoyed it for the most part, except for cringing at a few scenes. I do understand it is light hearted but that doesn't mean I can't dislike the fact they can drift tanks and drag-race them and do jumps in them. And take hits that would evaporate the whole tank, yet they still survive. And the fact that no one is seriously injured when the tanks flip or something when most aren't even wearing a helmet. I can enjoy something but dislike certain aspects of it you know. It's not all black and white.

Anime Activision you got to show everyone Obsolete if you can. It is a KZbin originals tho. Best mecha anime to come out in 2019-2020 using real world tactics vehicles and is very political on how humans would react to receiving advance technology and using it for personal gain and war. Highly recommended to anyone that see's this comment and is tiered of anime series like these.

It’s more or less an anime cliche where old beats new. I won’t have been bothered with the inclusion of magic in this show if they were applied to modern jets. Now the show just feels like “we need to have interwar hunks of junks because REASONS!” Give the gals some underappreciated jets like the Tornado, the Foxhound, the Fencer, the Avro Arrow or the Vigilante. For God’s sake!

@Stargeneral410 There were a few girls that actually flew bombers. For example one of them flew a hideous red & green Avro Lancaster. And there are a few Ar 234s and B-17s that appeared in the show. So I think the Vigilant can have its place as the odd one out.
