I did some research. This is what I found, but I am still not sure. From Google pictures, it could be a Japanese “racoon dog” or Tanuki. I also found that although there’s the word racoon in the name, it is not related to racoons at all. It is more related to foxes than dogs. They are fluffy, usually brown with patches of black in the face, and have a round body when they reach adulthood. They are omnivorous. There are white tanukis, a subspecies, but they don’t have any black markings in the face like this baby. I didn’t find any like this baby, I mean. In conclusion, it’s not a cross between a fox and a racoon, but I still don’t know what it is. Thank you for rescuing it anyway. A gorgeous, smart animal.
