The Soulbound core rulebook mentions that Ulgu's magic effects the mind. That wind has the enslave spell assigned to it in the rulebook. Makes sense to me.

I predict Ulgu will be the focus next edition, if you look at underworld releases it went death focused, then we had the soul wars, went to beast grave, now we're in the age of beasts and the current edition is set in Harrowdeep in Ulgu. I think underworlds are their testing ground for lore.

There is actually a lot of mystery in 40k lore. The black star, for one, sounds awfully like the mysterious tyrant star in 40k

I was just reading through the Stormcast Battletome and was interested in a couple of stories around this same section. The Black Star seems neat and ominous, but something about it isn't grabbing me like a few others. You've already made a cool video on one of them (Lord-Imperatant Katian who kills her own son because of the reforging process), but I was fascinated from a philosophical and horror-centric perspective of the The God-King's Brand, on page 23. "Any mortal who shirks from their duties or shows cowardice in the face of danger is rounded up to be judged. The worst offenders are marked with the God-King's Brand, a symbol [that] mercilessly burns away any evil or disloyal thought. With its citizenry secure, Azyrheim becomes stable once more." And like... holy crap. That's some dystopian, Clockwork Orange-level nightmare fuel. This type of horrifying social commentary is the kind of thing that makes certain works of fiction resonate for decades. I'd love to hear more stories about this. Rebellious citizens rising up to fight the oppression of those Lord-Veritants, who seem akin to the type of totalitarian rule of the Knights Excelsior. Hell yeah. And on Page 25, The Will of Thunder piqued my interest in a way that I think The Black Star did for you. Necroquakes and subterranean destruction creates panic in the streets of the Old City. None other than Lord-Commander Bastian Carthalos shows up, and takes three full chambers of Hammers of Sigmar into the catacombs. And three days later, he emerges with fewer than 50 warriors, worn and torn from who-knows-what. So he ominously forbids anyone from going back and commands a Sacrosanct chamber to guard the gate at all times. So. What in the ever-living hell was underground? It obviously scared the piss out of the citizens, and it created enough chaos [lower-case] to prompt freaking BASTIAN CARTHALOS to investigate, only for he and his troops to seemingly only keep the threat at bay. And wipe out a bunch of them in the process. Whatever it was... I wanna know more about it. Anyway, thanks for all of these fun lore videos! Cool to get into the mechanics of game, but also the backstories for all of these characters and factions. Cheers!

With some AoS Art I can imagine 1 of 4 chaos god enter the realm and found some entity look at them , chaos god got scared and running back to the warp.

Could the Black Star be connected to Be’lakor? Before Malerion and Morathi appeared in Ulgu he was already there and worshipped by the people of that realm.

I love that story! I actually have based the Path to Glory lore of two of my armies on it. The one is a SCE task force that is sent to Godloss on Ulguroth to investigate a vision/profecy that the Black Star is coming back. The other one is a Gloomspite Gitz/Kruleboyz army in the Clawing Forest (just south of Godloss) that are convinced that the Black Star was a manifestation of the Bad Moon and are trying to reanimate an ancient spider bloodline to make the Black Star come back. Shennanigans ensue when the profecy in the SCE's vision comes almost true, although instead of the Black Star they come face to face with a frenzied Black Star worshipping greenskin army.

As a few others have noted, this sounds like a shout out to 40k's black star, more commonly known as the Tyrant Star. That was a giant overerarching mystery that game masters running games of Dark Heresy could pit their inquisitorial agent players against, a phenomenon where a world's normal star appears to be eclipsed by a black star whose malign light drives all upon a world insane. That mystery deliberately never got a specific answer, with tyranids, necrons, chaos, and plenty else being on the table (including the forgotten 5th chaos god, Malal). In most of the proferred explanations, it was generally a symptom of a coming bad thing, and usually the developing form of a dimensional breach through which the bad thing could come.

In Fantasy Ulgu was all about illusions and deception. But it can ensnare the mind, this could be used to enslave people into fanatical worship, though that would be an unusual use considering that most practitioners of Shadow magic prefer to keep a low profile.

Malerion sees Sigmar as a useful ally and spends most of his time fighting Chaos. He doesn't need to test his powers because he already is the supreme ruler of Ulgu.

My guess would be that it was some kind of new or rare endless spell. Endless spells came around from the necroquake nocking around magic, so why wouldn't the Lifequake affect them as well? It could have caused a spell to "grow" into something new, or just triggered the creation of a new kind of predatory spell. One that feeds on prayer

I remember what you said about ulga is that nothing is what it seems a mountain is a city once you get close to it, in the realm of ulga there is aslo a large portion of shadow magic which manifest in odd ways, furthermore (something I read in warhammer underworlds) is that there a place that is separate to ulga that function something like the realm of chaos, were creatures of shadow and incomprehensible biengs lurk. Aslo I think the whole zealots thing is like a illusion where they think there fighting for sigmar.

I disagree there is a lot of mystery in 40K with weird side stories, and while there is a lot more covered lore in 40K (which makes sense seems its been going a lot longer) but that also kind of means there's more lore to go through to find mysteries.

It sounds a lot like the tyrant star of 40k and many think it's connected to Malal. Total war Warhammer 3 confirmed other chaos gods, aos has too, so maybe it's Malal flexing in AOS

GW can not legally use Malal as he is owned by the artist who made him. And the other Chaos Gods they are talking about are Hashut and the Great Horned Rat.

That's not true. Sigmar encourages the worship of other gods, and does not even require worshipping himself. Because this is not the fate that he chose for himself.
