I noticed you do substantial welds stretches to hold your workpiece to the bench (assuming it is welded to the bench). Is that how you avoid warping? How thick is your blank workpiece? Awesome welding and artwork, BTW.

Acetone might work better than laquer thinner depending on what kind of paint youre using. Its definitely worth a try. Otherwise you can rubbing petroleum jelly onto the dots before you paint so the paint won't stick to the metal. Something ive done alot. The jelly is like a liquid masking tape

you could try putting wax on certain areas you need to mask off.. then after painting, you can quickly rub off the wax to reveal the weld design underneath.. especially for those arc dots you slaved over
@mopedmarathon3 жыл бұрын
You could try something like a cotton bud (not sure if you call them that over there, the thing you clean inside your ear with) to wipe away paint rather than a brush. It might be quicker if you can use a bit of a firmer scrubbing action. Or maybe a lint free cloth over the end of a pencil / round bar off cut? Have you thought about learning some leather work / carving to integrate that in your works? Could be a cool contrast.

Instead of staining the wood with pigment which reverses the grain pattern, try using an oven cleaner, Sodium hydroxide,LYE on the wood to dye it, it gives a darker brown in the natural pattern of the wood, experiment with different dilution for darkness changes...stop the reaction with plain vinegar....for removing the over painted areas, possibly use a paintable rubber frisket as water colorists use to cover areas to be painted, then peel off to reveal underneath, sign painters use a product called Spraylat, I have used with lacquer based paints with great results....hope you like, Paul

@@PacificArcTigWelding Potassium Permangenate is a great dye for wood also, makes a nice chocolate brown on light wood...and does not reverse the grain pattern....it is used in water conditioners.....

Maybe some dot stickers for the welded dots. Trim with a knife if any are too big for the weld dot or go back after with a tiny touch up brush if any are too big. Mad welding skill though. Looks comparable tedium wise, to when I weld up a torso out of nuts and bolts! Mind numbing!!!! A good sound track playing helps. XD

kind of new to your channel so i am not sure if you figured out the removal of paint on the dots yet. but a trick i learned in photography and developing photos from film is rubber cement. put it on the dots first before painting, than the rubber cement just rubs off to expose the dots after paint.

I was thinking next time you try to remove paint from a spot weld, try getting a small hole punch and maybe punch out some tape or sticker or something and place those on top of the welds, then do your painting, then peel off the sticker you made from the hole punch. 👍

I find that the bottom 30% of a cylinder of argon produces more oxide colors. When I tap a full 300cuft tank I get pure silver without trying. The bottom of the tank I have to try way harder (bigger lens and higher flow) to get pure silver. The tanks are likely nowhere near 100% pure argon, which doesn’t matter for all practical purposes. As the cylinder pressure drops my guess is the percentage of contaminates in the output raises due to the lower volume (difference in densities is less of a factor). Anyway, excellent work as always. I enjoy the vids and the art work. 👍🏻👍🏻
