Hey guy's, couple of things: 1) Luxco got a ton of barrels from a non-disclosed Kentucky distillery and they are under an NDA (COUGH:COUGHhevenhillCOUGH). Those barrels are their wheateed mashbill (Laceny). 2) Since MGP also owns the LuxRow and Limestone Branch distilleries, the Kentucky barrels could be coming from there. But given the minimum age statement of 9 years, the Kentucky component is most likely the HH wheated mashbill.

Barreled in 2013 and aged on floor 5 of the warehouse, looking forward to cracking it for thanksgiving Edit: if I don’t like it better than the surprisingly good Henry McKenna 10 year I got recently, I’m ignoring Penelope out of spite for a while

@@sheepdog5 legs are insane and viscosity is good, kinda off profile for what I usually look for in a bourbon but I got the higher rye variant so not a huge shock there. All in all I’d say worth the price but I wouldn’t pay over msrp to get another. Excited to see what comes next from the estate collection though it’s a pretty good first showing for the price point. Also literally just opened the bottle so with some time to breathe my opinion might improve

I am assuming the Kentucky portion are Luxco stocks. They have huge stocks of old contract distilled Heaven Hill and have been pumping out their own distillate since 2018.

Picked one up in north Texas at $93. Its really really solid. Gonna put it up against my taylor single barrel tonight and see how it does. Definitely not as good as like a discovery 12 but nuanced and interesting compared to the last penelope 9 year.

Yeah I would imagine the Kentucky Bourbon in that is HH. Both Penelope and Lux had some HH juice but I think the old Kentucky distillate MGP has is 6yr old

Mmm, I'm fairly certain there hasn't ever been a drop of Bardstown Bourbon Co liquid in a Penelope bottle. Only MGP, and other barrels in the Luxco family, which does include some older barrels of sourced HH product. So, in order of likelihood for the KY component: Heaven Hill, via LuxCo. Limestone Branch (if it's a 9 year old facility Lux Row (pretty sure it's NOT. 9 year old facility. That's it. HH, Limestone Branch, Lux Row. The rest is obviously Indiana MGP

It's good (not steallar) and I like where they are headed... BUT, other options at $80 for a 9yr. ie. Russell's Private, ECBP Picks I think are better value (but they can be hit and miss due to SiB)... then you have all the other options at or below $80; Knob12, JD BP, EH Taylor SB, Bowman, OF 1910, etc.... And then you look at proof, 101, we all think of WT, and the 70th Anniv SR WT is pretty great for $50, 8YR/101proof legacy.... maybe we have to pay an extra $20 for the 1% Wheat... anyways, its just a tough price point to be at. If they decide to bottle this at 10-12 years in the future and price it at $100-120, now you got yourselves a real contender....

I remember when a great bottle of bourbon cost $10.00. Back in the 1960s Jack Daniels was under $3.00. inflation S U X ! I have seen the enemy; and it is us! If the millions of bourbon drinkers would refuse to buy a bottle over $50, then no one would try to sell bourbon for over $50 dollars.
