This was a great story. I think the character stalking him is the first Archeologist, and that the protagonist is seeing him as an ashen thing just as everyone else currently sees him. The curse is a living death as one of those creatures while your body lies stuck within the tomb.

That's what I was thinking from the second our protagonist got cursed. I think the first archeologist was just trying to reach the protagonist so he didn't have to be alone. Maybe another monstrosity would accept him when the rest of the world didn't.

My theory is that the figure is a representation or servant of Ammut. Ma'at and Anubis would never permit such a creature, as it subverts the cycle of life and death. So the Heart Eater is chasing him.

No, it's a guardian. Origin unknown. There are quite a few of them. They are based in caves, tunnels and other hidden remote places around the world. Each site is monitored by a matrilineal family line. When a site goes "active" the responsible family must send a human in for the creatures to kill. If the sacrifice isn't provided, other sites activate and cause mass casualty events. The Guardians seem to feel something like remorse for what they must do. They place the heart and teeth of every sacrifice into a stone cube as a gesture of respect. They can turn humans into guardians by biting or scratching them. The guardians aren't mindless killing machines. As long as the necessary sacrifice is provided they don't kill anyone else. The will however, kill anyone who gets in their way or is a threat to the site. If you'd like to hear the full story, search for "the white vault" it's hours of story, but explains everything.

3:00 fun fact from a museum curator's assistant and egyptologist: "Origin unknown" is actually (and sadly) very common among pieces from ancient art, like ancient egypt/mesopotamia/... The "origin" also by common practice not indicating the type/material/content/... of the pieces, but where and under what circumstances it was originally found/acquired. In best case the native origin, where it was originally excavated/discovered. With many object in our museums, collections and depots you have the problem, that they were acquired/discovered/found/excavated in the 18th or 19th century and then often times became part of private collections in germany, france or england (for egyptian/middle east), ending up to be properly documented in museums only muuuch later in modern times. At that times back then, archaeologists but also just colonial tourists coming to egypt and the middle east just bought stuff on the markets or local collectors, often times also possibly from illicit excavations, where nobody later on could deduce, where and by whom exactly the pieces were found. Only nowadays, after laws are more strict and especially archaeology became more scientifically advanced and thorough, and documentation now is being done much more properly, the origins and history of acquisition of pieces is much more transparent and can be tracked back to the actual origin. 10:30 Speaking of illicit excavations, oh boy :-D
@geoffkelly8167
@geoffkelly8167 10 ай бұрын
As an archivist, "unknown origin" is also typically used to strip the native identity of indigenous items. There's been many instances where items will be placed in museums and labeled as "unknown" even though the creator still has living children or grandchildren. Part of working with artifacts is reckoning with the disgusting colonial history of our profession

Yeah, feels appropriate. I'm also confused that in the ten years the guy hasn't tried to die by destroying his own corpse. Like, if you can feel the surroundings of your body, your existence must be somehow linked to them. But maybe he was supernaturally or psychologically completed not to. Who knows. Good story though. Pretty sure I've heard it before, but I love hearing the same story interpreted a different way, so it's cool :)))

Great story, love the switch in topics. Would love more palpable stories like this lol. Audio sounds great, no need to adjust there.

Been listening to your channel for, ionno, maybe two years now? I feel like I've stumbled on a goldmine- moved on from Creepsmcpasta (esp after the allegations), and a couple other larger channels. You deserve millions of subs, mate. The voice acting, the music, story selection are all unparalleled. You make studying for college exams something I look forward to- not an easy feat! Thanks again for everything. I'll be listening for years to come.

Another exciting story for me to enjoy my Mocha to tomorrow!! Thank you for all the work you do, Somnium! For years, I've always found that you've always had a specialty in nailing that "cinematic" feeling in your narrations. I think as a musician, being able to create your music to express very specific situations is also a HUGE part of that! I can always practically envision the whole movie in my head as I listen through! My mocha never has the same level of magic and immersion when I'm drinking without your stories, your narrations are practically part of the flavor profile now XD P.S, I love that little piece of music you wrote a long time back you titled "Embers of Love", which you occasionally use for "melancholic" moments in stories. Everytime it comes on, I can't help but feel it fits so well in so many of those situations!
