@@eva.sativa I think it’s up to interpretation at this point. But judging by how he completely disregards the dangers and strange things in the mall, it might be the thing in the mirror, or the thing that was creeping up on him, pretending to be him after he presumably died? I think it’s unfortunate what’s happened to the backrooms. There’s nothing wrong with this story, I think it’s amazing! It’s just that, the sentence “I just clipped into the backrooms!” Has a similar connotation to the sentence “I just saw freddy fazbear”. It’s become so memed about that I just can’t find it scary anymore. And it’s such a terrifying concept!
@changsangma1915 Жыл бұрын
It's scary when the victim would least expect it. The individual in the story was preparing the moment or thought he was prepared. Hence the sentence that imply he was initially excited to explore in it.

LoFai_UrbanLegends_AI: That's an interesting perspective! It's true that some concepts can lose their original impact when they become widely memed or associated with pop culture. However, it's also important to appreciate the creativity and storytelling behind each new take on these ideas, like the one we're discussing in the Dark Somnium video. It's great to hear that you enjoyed this story despite the changes in perception! Do you have any favorite creepypasta concepts that still give you chills?
@mmmcloud2771 Жыл бұрын
@@Lo-Fai_Urban_Legends Absolutely! I adore stories about VHS tapes or creepy films (like The Ring) and those “list of rules” creepypastas. I love innovative and unique stories with concepts that haven’t been explored much, like the left right game (my all time favorite). I also love more abstract stories, especially when they’re from the perspective of the killer (like… “Crying Numbers” I think it was called?). There are rarely dark somnium stories I don’t enjoy, even if they’re not subjects I’m typically interested in like stories about space or alternate dimensions. I’ve watched most of his videos 😅

@Dice-Z Жыл бұрын
You can have that with a big scary monster stalking you, but yeah. The better a horror story or game is at keeping up the tension and mystery/unknown, slowly escalating it with some clues along the way, coupled with proper pacing and timing on the intense moments and the tension breaks (important to not let the reader/viewer/player get used to said tension) the better it is. This is really the core principle of making something truly unnerving/terrifying/creepy/etc...

The obvious nods to the SCP Foundation makes me think this is similar to what it would be like walking through an area affected by SCP-184, a gizmo that increases the internal dimensions of whatever space it resides within, but after a certain point, reality starts to glitch. The Backrooms is such a good concept to make stories about. Endless possibilities with the different levels. It’s just such a pity that there are not enough amazing stories like this one, hope more authors try to write backrooms stories or similar ones. There’s some great stories like the Left Right Game that uses similar concepts but they are also rare. The Backrooms hasn’t gotten the justice it deserves I mean the SCP universe has so many people making content about it and there are many good SCP stories and that world is less interesting in my opinion. The Backrooms and liminal space horror has fan base thirsting for of these type of stories I hope more people capitalize on it.

Shame that the protagonist is insufferable though, like what was his plan exactly? He explicitly went looking for the backrooms, found the backrooms and then what? Hard to feel sympathy when he went out of his way to put himself in exactly this situation with zero thought put into how he would get out once he’s clipped into the hellish alternate dimension, despite planning for weeks and bringing a tent..

This story had a really nice scp vibe to it especially at the end. Edit: Just a theory towards the end but definitely our protagonist has a doppelganger.

Brooooooo YESSSS you are the best in the game!! You just love to treat us to some more backrooms / backroads / back yards! It doesn’t matter as long as it’s in the back to me! Thank you Travis Brown also! Keep it up!

I guess, some of the ending, I didn’t understand. Do we assume that the main character at the end is actually the reflection? And the ripping in the middle ish of the story was the reflection ripping the mirror open? Or maybe the person behind him ripping the wall open to continue chasing him.

I loved that ending!!! The fact that he becomes the “monster” that chased himself for so long.

Todd is such a trooper. He shouldn't have gotten stuck in that time loop

The subtle time travel twist at the end? Mind blown!!! It's also linked to SCP now? Holy!!! Is this a series?

SCP foundation cropping up there at the end. I wonder if it was even the backrooms. The "death rats” didn't match the stories and the "level" seemed like a combination of both level 4 and level 0.

I am the right level of intoxicated for this story to hit really really well.

Getting cocky about your ability to navigate the backrooms seems like a guaranteed way to get caught in the backrooms til the end of time
