The US Coast Guard and congress have been dinking around for too long while Russia is dominating the Arctic. Instead of buying the Aiviq, a one of a kind medium endurance ice breaker that needs a lot of modification, the government should have started 20 years ago revamping the ice breaker service. They need three heavy endurance breakers. They should have been built exactly the same for training, maintenance and spare parts purposes. The Polar Star has been updated as active. The hull design of the Polar Star is still state-of-the art for ice breaking, as is the inactive Polar Sea The Healy is a medium endurance breaker and good for its' purposes. Update the Polar Sea with new engineering, and manufacture a new ice breaker using the old Polar Class hull design. The Aiviq is going to have completely different systems than any other coast guard ships. Also we need to acquire Greenland. Sorry Denmark.
