Bought it without seing this video first, had a lot of fun and can just say that this thing is like half a dozen plugins in one. All you need to mix and master now is a couple of compressors, a good reverb, a limiter and this thing. It literally makes things like Soothe 2, Gullfoss and other "cheat"-plugins obsolete once you get your head around everything this plugin has to offer. It is a transient shaper, de-esser, stereo/mono maker and loads of other things. Just crazy, and a right out steal at $99.

On drums this seems like a godsend, I often find I have issues where the high end of the transient of the snare can be annoying, using compression means less overall transients, less high end means a dull snare. With this it seems like I can take out some of the high end transient and add in that high end in the tonal side. Actually a new EQ plugin that does something that others don't!

@JimijaymesProductions2 жыл бұрын
@@yanossnicklefritz7064 Thats just a dynamic fully parametric EQ with cool sidechain features unless there is an update I don't know about. Great for that purpose, the eventide doesn't do dynamic EQ and also doesn't have the masking feature of Neutron that I like to use sometimes. If you are struggling to find a purpose for the Neutron equalizer, i'd start off with not using the dynamic modes and use the alt function where you can hold the alt key and it isolates the band and then you can move that band around to try and find a problematic frequency or the frequency that is needing to be boosted. Definitely a different way of thinking to old school analog EQ though.

This multitrack pack is one of the best ever to try out stuff. I had similar ideas about what to do, now you found an EQ that can do it faster and more focused. Soundcloud has a lot of interesting mixes on that song. But can we tweak the separation between attack and steady component per EQ band? One thing that i search in EQ's, is one that i can roll off just one frequency I mean, most plugins, when you tweak a frequency, the other frequencies around are affected too either raised up or down,creating that shape of a mountain around it, thats not what i want When i want to tweak 4000hz, i want to change something only in 4000, like a parametric EQ pedal Its just dont sound the way i want to, when other frequencies are affected i can't do the "annoying" fine tuning that i want to. Sometimes i just want to literally scoop the hell ou of a 16khz noise, and if i roll of the whole thing, it wont cut just 16, but also cut 15, 14, 13, you know.

Think about this: when you record anything, the sound spectrum or the waves, i dont know, they are full of spikes Well, if i take all those spikes and inconsiently polish them so much by just using the eq, that i dont have any spikes anymore , wouldn't make it sound less organic? Or a little artificial? Particularlly, i don't like that, wish i could do the way i mentioned before on the comment, if anyone reads this, and have ever seen a plugin that don't do this "if you turn one thing up, you turn another thing up" let me know, please

The concepts are similar, but the implementation is a little different. Instead of separate filter types for EQ and Entropy bands, all bands have have transient and tonal filters. To use a band as a normal EQ, just use the white handles. To boost transient or tonal, just grab the relevant tab. If you shift drag on the gain value down in the band editors, you can boost tonal gain while cutting transient gain (or vice versa) by an equivalent amount. (So unlike Sonible, you have gains for each rather than a mix control for transient and tonal). This makes it easier to maintain the levels of the tonal signal across the spectrum if you boost the transients on the high end (since they’ll stay the same)

Is this using the same Structural Effects Technology as used in their plug Physion?

Yes

So this is like Transgressor, but more expensive...and more advanced in some areas.

I am surprised that nobody mentioned Quantum of Wavesfactory, it does not only EQ the transient and the tonal separately, it also does reverb, chorus, compressor, saturation, limiter, convolution, stereo-stuff, and much, much more. All separately on transient and tonal…

Frei:Raum by Sonible also does that kind of thing, it never gets mentioned for some reason. But SplitEQ has a nice layout to it and it seems to sound great from what I've heard.

De-esser? Could someone with hands on tell me opinions as a de-esser? I'm curious. It could be interesting that you can lower the biting effects (transient) of those frequencies without having to turn it down (tonal) like a classic de-esser if the "s" "tz" sounds are fast and short. On hard distorted lead synths it sounds like a saving grace for those frequencies. Thank you!

I'm guessing Eventide went ahead and update and polished their engine from Physion (was it called like that, can't say for sure now) and applied new thinking on the EQ. Owning some of Eventide fine tools, which are great, I just can say this is new approach to the EQ with 2 split planes in soond image and I am sure Eventide did it again! Nice work!

Physion! Yes! I was wondering if Newfangled Audio had his hand in this as well.

Warren in all of your channels you got massive buildup of 50hz down, when do you cut that? I see that you don't do it in individual channels, do you do it in the instrument bus? In the mix bus? do you cut that at all, ever? Thank you!!
@Producelikeapro2 жыл бұрын
There isn't a massive build up of 50hz. There is high passing on the individual elements before going to the bussed signal where this Plug In was applied. I suggest watching many of the videos I've done where I talk extensively about High Passing.

@@Producelikeapro Thank you! BTW I was just curious, I knew you did high passing and I knew you talked about it before I just didn't know were in your chain you were using this plugin :) .. also just bot it with the link ;) .. Thanks Warren, really love this review.. and the tune!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

There is something to be aware of worth mentioning. This is a MIXING tool. It creates a considerable amount of latency. Especially when you deploy it liberally. Suggesting this can be a main goto EQ is not really accurate in pre production at least. That is not a deal breaker tho, because it's a remarkably useful and effective tool. It seems to do everything in the EQ realm better than any "traditional" EQ, It's clearly a step forward and hopefully just a glimpse of how interesting future tools inspired by SplitEQ are going to be. Said it before, I'll say it again. Don't be sucked into buying photographs of vintage gear. Support future think!
