Unlike China, Britain’s industrial revolution and overseas expansion was driven by a military policy. According to Hobson, during the period from 1688-1815 Great Britain was engaged in wars 52% of the time[3]. Whereas the Chinese relied on their open markets and their superior production and sophisticated commercial and banking skills, the British relied on tariff protection, military conquest, the systematic destruction of competitive overseas enterprises as well as the appropriation and plunder of local resources. China’s global predominance was based on ‘reciprocal benefits’ with its trading partners, while Britain relied on mercenary armies of occupation, savage repression and a ‘divide and conquer’ policy to foment local rivalries. In the face of native resistance, the British (as well as other Western imperial powers) did not hesitate to exterminate entire communities[4]. Unable to take over the Chinese market through greater economic competitiveness, Britain relied on brute military power. It mobilized, armed and led mercenaries, drawn from its colonies in India and elsewhere to force its exports on China and impose unequal treaties to lower tariffs. As a result China was flooded with British opium produced on its plantations in India - despite Chinese laws forbidding or regulating the importation and sale of the narcotic. China’s rulers, long accustomed to its trade and manufacturing superiority, were unprepared for the ‘new imperial rules’ for global power. The West’s willingness to use military power to win colonies, pillage resources and recruit huge mercenary armies commanded by European officers spelt the end for China as a world power. China had based its economic predominance on ‘non-interference in the internal affairs of its trading partners’. In contrast, British imperialists intervened violently in Asia, reorganizing local economies to suit the needs of the empire (eliminating economic competitors including more efficient Indian cotton manufacturers) and seized control of local political, economic and administrative apparatus to establish the colonial state.

Not sure how I missed this video a few years ago. EXCELLENT Report! Perhaps it is inappropriate; but I feel pride, happiness and most of all HOPE, (a virtue that is sadly in short supply these days, here in the US 😔), for my dear friend’s in China, when we see what China is doing to “lift all ships”. Unlike what my own country has done over the years, (attempting to “spread democracy” by stealing resources, destroying other country’s environments, forcing predatory loans on countries to control them, and worse of all; continuing the unholy practice of servitude and indentured slavery, destruction of the country’s sovereignty, with Western-owned paying much less than a living wage and other practices inherent in “White supremacy “ and colonialism😔); China has learned that by helping underdeveloped 3rd world countries alleviate poverty, develop a strong basic infrastructure, RESPECT these country’s sovereignty and human rights; that China also benefits. Basically, by following international law and instituting fair trade practices; China is helping others succeed in the same way they achieved these goals within their own borders-its a win-win-win situation for China, Africa and the rest of the world. These facts only make it harder though, for those of us who know the TRUTH about what China is doing; to watch as my fellow Westerners, criticize and even demonize my friends in China, for their humanitarian efforts around the world. It doesn’t fit my country’s narrative about China; being evil and always having evil intentions. Luckily, it appears many of our allies are realizing they have been lied to by the West; and the blatant hypocrisy greed and arrogance of my country and our multinational corporations is too “in-your-face” to ignore...not to mention, jealousy.(“hint, hint” India) 太谢谢了, 我的朋友, for spreading HOPE in this currently chaotic and uncertain world! ❤️🇨🇳☮️

People don't realize the reason Ethiopia has excellent aviators and the best airline on the continent is bc Africa A. pilots back in the 50's went there to help fight Mussilina and they stayed and trained their fellow brothers and sisters, the Ethiopians. Con w even mass produces essentials as proper gas and electric cookers or washing machines anywhere by the Black population. In addition to fair pay it's time to wake up. More hands-on practical training in conjunction alongside theoretical sessions for the young work force. Where's America in building Afrika?
@whkwole68426 жыл бұрын
Berna Jean: As far as building Africa is concerned, it does not mean America never helped Africa. If you looked at the transport system, there are private home cars, public buses, freight trucks, railway trains, airports and airplanes. Was this system built up by China? Another sector to look is the home telephones, cell phones, the computer, the internet, home televisions, radio. Were these built up by China? And then there are the electricity generation machines and plants, and gasoline refineries to produce fuel for automobiles. Were these built up by China? And then a modern educational system existed long before China came to Africa.

First China tried to become prosperous by learning the Russian language. It failed. Then China switched over to learn the English language and to be westernized. This time China succeeded.
