I've never thought of Valentino as being quiet luxury because of the emphasis they put on studs. At the price point luxury brands are at right now, people want to be impressed, and Alessandro may very well rise to the occasion. Maybe the ready to wear will become exciting and wearable due to Valentino's couture history?

Accessories and every day ready to wear are the bread and butter of luxury houses and I believe appointing A.M is a definite business move to shake up Valentino's lines so they too have those two areas in the fore front. They'll want those signature iconic bags just like he created for Gucci. Ready to wear too will be a major change (think current Miu Miu or how Celine was and YSL is now) so people will want that cool Valentino shirt, cool girl jean, belt, sunglasses etc. That's what A.M will be tasked to create for Valentino for sure. A.M. was brilliant at that for Gucci PLUS he has the experience to cover the rest so I think it's that diversity or BREADTH that got him the role. This could all go tits up of course but let's see!

Alessandro going to Valentino is going to be a game changer. I'm looking forward to a fabulous and funky Valentino in the coming years. Yes, he'll have to deal with the "quiet luxury" trend, but I think he's going to do some amazing things at Valentino. I hope he shakes the fashion world up, as right now, it needs it.

I totally agree with you. I think he has an extraordinary understanding of what can appeal to the luxury fashion buying public - from pieces with a classic, archival bent to the streetwear-style collaborations with Disney and Adidas. I love his love of colour, pattern and unexpected combinations in clothing and accessories. Cassie used the word ‘opulent’ in this video - and that’s how I’ve always seen Valentino clothing - especially their couture. I’m hoping Alessandro expands on that with the brand. I’m so tired of the norm-core trend across so many labels at the moment, disguised as or pretending to be ‘quiet luxury’. I find it lazy and unimaginative. Bring back opulence, drama and great design in clothing. There’s been so little of it in recent times.

I still love my LV reverse monogram nkuwan clutch! It's versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it's already a classic.

I bought a *condup* super fake because I was still undecided on whether I liked it enough to buy the real deal. It arrived and it was great, I didn't need to buy the original one. The attention to detail is amazing and even shows in all the packaging and labels. It does make me feel a certain way about the designers selling these bags. They were selling it for about 10 times what I paid. They are ripping people off. Hermès is the worst at this - I imagine them in the board room laughing at how much people are prepared to pay.

Im here for it. Alessandro is extravagant and fun, and Valentino is not at all stuffy, so I’m delighted to see what’s in store for us. Other designers appointed at other brands have recently not made too much noise but hopefully they will grow into their role. I also love my rare pastel rockstuds with smooth snout. 😉Thanks for the breakdown Cassie! P.S. I was already a Valentino gal ( still a rockstud STAN- I have 4 pairs in counting) and obsessed with what Michele was doing at Gucci (I purchased so much during his time, RTW and Accessories). I’m excited for this new chapter of Valentino. I loved the brand when Mr Garavani was creative director. I remember reading an interview he did for Hello (or maybe it was Ok!) magazine and dreamed of the day I’d be able to enjoy all the beautiful things he spoke of, that inspired him. I’m hoping for couture inspired pieces, Italian flair, and riviera chic fit for Arabian royals.

He did benefit from the lockdown 'treat' buying that did happen for Gucci. Loafers at 400-500 were achievable for most WFH professionals who overnight saved 4-5k on commuting costs. However, Gucci has gone a bit crazy with pricing. 750?? You might as well wait for a pair in Loro Piana to come back into stock. So what will be really interesting is to see how he is going to innovate the rock stud. Will we see a new quintessential Italian icon? A piece inspired by Valentino's cultural Lombardy roots?

Very true, but the pricing and designs were very accessible for the professional worker. You didn't get shamed for dropping £350-400 on a pair of shoes or under £1k for a decent bag. When I think of Valentino, I think Jackie O post in her First Lady era and as you say, that look has kind of stayed throughout the years, only the rockstuds (which I've always hated) were a bit of a departure from classic Valentino. It will be interesting to see whether he stays in the Valentino lane or merges into another.

This is the most exciting for me. It's kinda genius. He's not my favourite in terms of aesthetic but he's really good. A really good designer is typically able to adapt. Valentino I like only for the dresses/ gowns. The figures on Gucci's growth during his time there are telling. It was a wise move because there is so much room for Valentino to become a bigger house. I love my rockstud bag. Hi Cassie! Regarding your collab with Shay Jewelry, do you have the smaller of the lavender curb link bracelets? I watched your video on it and couldn't quite tell if you said you got the larger one or not. Also, did you need to size up half an inch or more to compensate for the thickness of the bracelet? I stopped shopping at Gucci when Alessandro Michegele took over. Alessandro’s designs were too out there & costumee in my opinion. As Valentino girl, i treasure all my pieces from late 90s & early 2000s, Sig. Valentino made timeless classics. Ready to wear & accessories are wonderful quality (never had any issues), especially evening wear. The gowns are very popular during Ball season & amongst opera singers. I’m worried what will happen to Valentino classics long time clients love, as well as becoming “flashy” 🙁 BTW Maria Grazia era wasn’t it either, i was glad she left but poor Dior🫣

I think it's an exciting news. I wanted him at Fendi tbh because Kim Jones is doing a horrible job there. I think that his heritage and Valentino's one are going to match well. He is good at diaphanous gowns, cute separates, colors and accessories. At Valentino, he will have to cut on his theatrics: no costumes, no props, no gimmicks. But about Quiet luxury, is it really driving the industry? When we look at Chanel, Vuitton, Dior, Prada and all the brands that are growing in the luxury market, they are not following that trend. I think to be a driving force in luxury, you have to set yourself apart and this is what Michele can do with Valentino.
