My parents offered me a Tissot for my 20's. This was 20 years ago and it's still working perfectly in a perfect shape! They did not have a lot of money and this is fantastic that they could offer me such a good quality watch at an affordable price from a brand with a rich history. Now I have more money and can afford myself more expensive watches but I still wear regularly my Tissot from 20 years ago.

Well, my father offered me a Tissot automatic movement watch in 1974, and although I don't wear it regularly anymore, it still works perfectly. It's a Tissot Visodate automatic seastar with a black dial and a date indication at the 3 o'clock position. It's a 34 mm watch: rather small in comparison with the 40mm and more watches of today.

I'm trying to decide between this and the Sarx045 as my first decent watch. Lots of similarities. Both have good mixes of gloss and brush. I'm leaning towards the Tissot because the indices appear to have more relief and I think the slightly thicker gloss bevel around the face gives it an overall better balance. The crown is simpler as well and the back of the watch is way more attractive. On the other hand, the Seiko's minute hashes are more refined and the tuxedo stripes are sharp. On the practical side, the Tissot has 80 hours and a silicon spring. In spite of the poor kerning (type-nerd), I'm leaning toward the Tissot. Thoughts?

Seiko SRPB41J1 (cocktail time in dark blue) has been my everyday watch since Christmas. Bought it for myself after a good year and haven't taken it off my wrist. The dial is so versatile that I can wear it with a suit (to work mon-fri for me) or dress it down with a more "out-there" strap for the weekends. I have only not worn it on one day since Christmas, and that was for a super dressy day where I wore my gold orient bambino! But, this Seiko is one I don't see ever getting rid of, even if I venture to more high end pieces, and it's simply due to the versatility and the change in blue depending on the strap!! Would recommend to anyone. Also, another FANTASTIC video, Teddy!

Got the black dial Tissot Gentleman automatic and can’t recommend it highly enough. Possibly the only watch giving more bang for the buck than Tudor right now. Just punches way above its weight and wears quietly on the wrist with charm and appeal. Top tip. The leather strap is quite stiff when new and throws the balance off squeezing the wrist at the edges. At this price point don’t baby this piece. Just grab that leather strap and bend the hell out of the thing. Show it no respect and really put it through its paces. Once this is done the strap becomes beautifully supple and confirms nicely against the wrist making it really comfy to wear. Accuracy on the wrist after break in: well within COSC. It’s just a cool gem of a watch. Perfect for everyday wear. A watch guys watch with a lovely smooth ETA movement. Hacking. Quick set date. Instant date change. Get on it! :)

This watch is incredible. I have the silver face and it looks fantastic. Amazingly, from the time I put it on until the time I take it off 12 hours later it neither loses or gains time, it stays locked in. At night, it will gain a few seconds laying on it's side with the crown up or lose a few seconds on it's side with the crown down. So I alternate that position every night and it keeps perfect time.

Really like that Tissot Teddy! That's a tough question you asked at the end there. For me personally, and I know it's redundant, but I have to go with my Hamilton Khaki auto 38mm on a strapcode bracelet. I can wear it with a t-shirt or one of my dress shirts for work, and it doesn't look ridiculous no matter what. Other than that, I would probably go with my Orient Kamasu with a leather strap. Great video as always!

Great Video! I really do thing, that Tissot makes great watches, witch are extremely underrated. I own a Tissot Seastar 1000 (Powermatic 80, black) and I can recommend it. In my opinion - great design, build and precision for the price (it is also my everyday watch). Under 1000$: Tissot Seastar 1000, Tissot Gentleman and Longines Conquest (all of the models can be found with quartz movements - I do prefer the automatic ones) .

For my every day watch.... I have just purchased the Steinheart GMT-OCEAN 1 BLUE RED.2 and the OCEAN One 39 blue for my wife. Both were under $500 each. Yes I know that the GMT Ocean 1 is a Rolex Pepsi Homage watch, but I am just LOVING the look, the bracelet, just everything about it. The Ocean one 39 for my wife sports a fantastic Mother-of-pearl blue Dial. Both Worth taking a look.

I agree that this is the best all around Swiss entry-level watch. It's much improved over the old PR100. Better styling, more reasonable size, cleaned-up bracelet with proper clasp, and a killer movement! It's really up-to-date now, for only $150 more! It's amazing the amount of value Tissot packs in. It still has the iconic Rolex/Grand Seiko styling, but modernizes it. It's probably a lot what those watches would look, if they were ever allowed to come out of the sixties! The most important upgrade is in the movement. Not only the silicon hairspring, but it also ditches the plastic escapement parts of the base Powermatic 80 for conventional ones and uses ruby pallet stones. Hence 25 jewels instead of 23. And it doesn't have a regulator, so you can't easily adjust it. These things kept me from buying Tissot or Certinas, and I sold my old auto PR 100, and replaced it with the new Gentleman. But I actually went for the Quartz version instead of the automatic. Having fallen for the automatic kick over the past decade, I'm now looking to add some nice quartz models that I can just grab and go without the hassle of setting or checking to see if it's running. The Gentleman Quartz is also a great choice to consider for half the price of the automatic at $250, street! They have actually dropped the price of the PR100, to around that price, now with a Chronometer-grade Powermatic 80, but still with a plastic escapement and no regulator! Over time, as the oil dries up, the plastic parts may keep it running longer. But, as the plastic parts wear down faster, the watch will go out of adjustment sooner, requiring a watchmaker to tediously adjust the free-sprung balance to keep it within Chrono specs. So, I don't think people should necessarily rule out Quartz entirely, as they often represent a better value and are a more practical choice for everyday watches under $500. After all, Quartz movements almost made mechanicals extinct 40 years ago, for all the same reasons that are still just as valid today!

Tissot actually has given us a lot of options from different movments to case types unlike the Presages that focus more on the dials. I love my Presages. But calibre wise Tissot has become so versatile that one cannot look away.

I set off to a retailer over the weekend looking for an everyday watch with the Tissot PRX in my mind. But the PRX didnt' fit my wrist well; instead I fell in love with the Gentleman. Absolutely comfortable to wear, elegant enough to match a suit and a tie, but also with the sporty feel to be worn as a casual watch. Water resistance is enough for leisure swimming. I ended up ordering the quartz version online since I have other automatic everyday watch, but I imagine I would love it as well.

Best everyday....versatile, water resistant at least 100 m, no leather strap (swimming, cycling, any other sports), quartz movement, timer, alarm, Chrono, GMT (second time zone). I really love my Omega Seamaster 120 and for me it is the best everyday watch. Bought it more than 20 years ago. Although I have some other nice timepieces (Zenith Elite GMT steel gold, Zenith Chrono HandWind, Glashütte Q1, Oris Rectangular central date, Seiko Kinetic) the watch I wear is the Omega. The Tissot is available at my local dealer - but I am actually looking of a diver. The Powermatic 80 movement is also available in some nice divers by Tissot with two-tone dials in different colors and ceramic bezels...wondering if steinhart is really the better choice, both divers are Swiss made and less than €1.000.

Mine is, too. SNK793. Which, cosmetically, is basically a slightly smaller version of this watch. Baton indices, similar (flat, not beveled) hands, 3 o'clock day/date window with beveled trim, dark blue sunburst dial, open back, wide polished bezel to minimize wrist presence, brushed case. And, only $90-100 with only 30m water resistance, hardlex crystal, and 7S26 movement. Not saying one is better or worse, but interesting how strong the cosmetic resemblance actually is. If you're looking for a way to pinch a penny and get the look, you could do a lot worse!

Nice review. I love this watch. It wears and looks luxurious, yet I don’t walk through neighborhoods with the fear that someone will rip off my arm, which is the constant paranoia I have when I wear my more expensive Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra. One point I wish the video could explain better is the silicium feature.

I really like this watch, and I’m very interested in these new Powermatic 80 Silicium watches. I think if you aspire to own a Datejust or Aqua Terra, this watch works as a great interim piece until you can afford to spend 5-10x more (which for many of us will unfortunately never come). Likewise, if you want a Submariner or Seamaster Diver 300M to compliment your DJ or AT, the Tissot Seastar 1000 (which now has a navy dial silicium model) is an equally fitting compliment to the Gentleman.
