A New Face at the Table ║ Hang Out with This Homeschool Mom of 9 │ Week 1

It's the first week of our 2018-2019 homeschool year! For our first day of school, we spent the day going through last year's things and moving into our new school binders. (We were going to take the next day off for Justus' birthday, so it seemed like the thing to do to just get things organized.) Over the weekend, I finished wallpapering the living room. On Monday, we got serious about starting our school work. In a separate video coming up, Tom and I had our monthly shopping trip and a trip to see Grandma Fern on Monday night. I was (and am still) not quite organized with getting everything done for school, so I finished making the goal chart/planners for the year on Tuesday and Wednesday of the week. As I finished editing the video, I enjoyed that we spent time looking through Sophia's Kindergarten calendar. It's a little preview of the school year to come!

All your organizing pays off when you can make a calendar for Sophia on the spur of the moment - genius! The linear design of the wallpaper is perfect for making the room seem more spacious. I love watching these videos, you know the older things like your sharpener being 30 yrs old and still works! I always buy used can openers they outlast any of the new ones I love to buy old stuff. It makes for longer use and I don't pay as much as with new ones!!! Things are made so cheap. Thomas looks just like his Dad. I think all your kids are so cute!!!

One thing I find quite funny is when you're sitting at the table with the kids and a couple start talking at the same time, I tend to tune in to one but you answer to a complete different one and then I backtrack the video to see who you were answering! So many little voices, all so sweet!!

Tommy and Andrea Mills, if you see this comment, I would like to ask for prayer, for both myself and my family...Tragedy struck my family on Sept 11 2018, not even one month ago. My 17 yr old daughter passed away that day, not due to natural causes..her friends older brother took her life...I am still in shock and disbelief, now that I have had to put my baby in the ground... I have to endure a murder trial, which will interfere with our heaing journey. I enjoy your videos you much, seeing all your children makes me smile. Well, I like it a lot! BTW, I am currently working on my Master's degree in English, and am currently taking a linguistics class. A few weeks ago we studied how words are pronounced, and started using phonetic markings. As soon as I saw them, I knew what they were because of watching your videos from when Solly was learning how to read.

When I eat a cucumber I always use a peeler to take the green skin off, that is how I was told basically 55 years ago when my Mom grew them every year and made lots of cucumber salads too, but never the skin on, since it is bitter. Then they are the other cucumbers for pickling only.

I thought we grew pickling cucumbers, but I guess not! (We peel ours, too, when we're just eating them.) This was my first time making pickles, so it's also possible I just did something wrong when I was following the directions.

Now, isn't Sophia a clever girl! And she is obviously loving school. All the other kids and youths (Asher and Judah) and young adult (Thomas) got well back into the swing as well. I like it, that Eden gets some other responsibilities, now she is in fourth grade and her liking for cooking, baking and sewing is planned in. Well, you did mention that in another video, but I forgot. Only: those poor turtles... But they did make a good video of it. As always: a very nice vlog of a very nice family!!

It was nice to see everyone back in school and Sophia at the kindergarten table. I love watching the children all interacting with Hannah. She just beams when the older boys play with her. Love your wall paper. It looks lovely and goes so well with your kitchen too. Ever since you showed the green chicken soup I have been thinking about it. Yes, I cook some bone-in chicken over night for the broth and then pick off the chicken the next day and discard the bones. Then, instead of carrots, potatoes, etc., I just add in lots of green vegetables (along with garlic and onion). Justus says it's his favorite.

I’m interested to ask if the kids assigned colors reflect in their personalities. I know that colors inspire strong feelings both consciously and subconsciously... for example red inspires drama and passion, orange - encouragement, yellow - optimism, pink - sensitivity, blue - trust, green - growth, purple - spirituality, brown - stability! I am very curious if you have noticed their personalities forming around their colors?

Where I live kindergarten is two years, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten. I was thinking it was interesting that they only had one year of kindergarten, but now that I think of it they do kind of have two... The kid who is going to start next always seems a bit interested and listens in a little to the kindergarten stories, and does some colouring sometimes when the other kids are doing school.

It says the one I have is currently unavailable, but this one is the same model plus a foot pedal. www.amazon.com/dp/B00LOYSM4C/?ref=exp_loc_pl_omegacomputers. This one doesn't have the automatic thing that feeds the coils into the paper, but it's obviously quite easy to do without that feature. It also doesn't have the feature of choosing which holes to punch or not punch, but I'm not sure that's a useful feature anyway. The more I see them, the more I am loving that brick wall and purple dresser combination. So sharp! And, using as a baking station is brilliant!
