Please bring this technology and procedure to Australia. My Whippet has just been diagnosed with a grade 2 heart murmer and we're booked for imaging to confirm its Mitral Valve disease as our IMS believes. My boy means the world to me and I'd love to have this technology and knowledge here in Australia for him and many other affected dogs in the near future 🙏🙏

@cozygreys5873 Dr. Orton and his team at Colorado State are so amazing- they are trying to train as many new centres as possible so that is many dogs with mitral valve disease as possible can benefit. I hope that your dogs murmur is just a benign murmur. 🙏Best of luck!! Dr. Lopez

Thank you so much for these videos. My dog is really going through it with stage C mitral valve disease. Her cardiologist is actually at CSU this weekend and is going to review her case with them to see if she's a candidate. I'm hoping so much that she qualifies, this disease is heartbreaking.

Dr. Lopez, have you heard of MitralSeal? Can you please do another interview with Dr. Orton? Can you or Dr. Orton explain the difference, pros & cons, and eligibility requirements between the two procedures? Please and thank you 🙏

@Aleesaneenja Please reach out to the team at CSU (email at the bottom of the TEER info sheet linked in the video description). The mitraseal website indicates the device is being tested at CSU, the same university that piloted the TEER program, so there must be a reason why they did not discuss or recommend MitraSeal. The cardiology department at CSU should be able to answer any questions regarding this. Please keep us posted! Dr. Lopez UPDATE: The comments section on the MitraSeal site suggests their device is no longer undergoing clinical trials and that the MitraSeal company is recommending the V-Clamp (the device discussed in this video). I copy/pasted below: [MitralSeal Website] Michele DeSilva on June 11, 2023 at 12:46 pm Hi, I was just checking for an update with the study and if there is any timeframe on when MitralSeal will be available? Reply Avalon Medical Avalon Medical on June 13, 2023 at 8:45 pm Michele, thanks for reaching out. I am currently unaware of when or where clinical trials will reopen for MitralSeal. However, we are supporting the V-Clamp procedure right now, which is also intended for CMVD patients. Please feel free to reach out for more information about that if you’d like to hear more!

@@TwinTreesVet Dr. Lopez, for the TEER procedure, the mitral clip is 14mm wide so candidates need to have a mitral valve larger than 14mm to be good candidates. Smaller dogs with smaller mitral valves (less than 14mm) are deemed risky for this procedure as it can cause mitral stenosis. FYI.

@@Aleesaneenja you can email Dr. Orton directly and he will get back to you with information 😉

@onlyinparadise4613 Thank you so much for the update! So to confirm were you told that is mitraseal ismore appropriate for smaller dogs? Were you told it is available and if so wheve? There are lots of people with dogs smaller than 3-3.5 kg who have been asking about more about options! Thanks for the info! -Dr. Lopez

I have a Springer spaniel just diagnosed at stage B1 and she is 3 years old. At what point should she be considered a candidate for this? Given that she is so young, would we expect a normal life expectancy post-surgery?
@TwinTreesVet
@TwinTreesVet Жыл бұрын
@rsholman97 Wow, only 3 years old. Just a baby. Great job on getting a proper diagnosis and stage before it becomes a crisis! It is so much better to have the time to plan ahead. Your best resource is to contact the email address at the bottom of the TEER info sheet from CSU (linked in the video description). CSU is the leading authority on this procedure in the world, so they can give you the best information. It sounds like B2 is the earliest stage recommended for certain situations (like high-risk breeds such as Cavalier King Charles). My understanding is that the waitlists are growing, and so there is no harm in getting the info and putting your name on the list ahead of time. Best of luck and please keep us posted. -Dr.Lopez

can small dog(like shihtzu)get this surgery? (my shihtzu are 9lb)

@TwinTreesVet Жыл бұрын
@4shihtzu Yes, small dogs can get this surgery. I think in Episode 1 Dr. Orton mentions weight of the the smallest dog that has undergone the procedure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3fMd5pjbJKlkJY I would absolutely reach out to the team at Colorado State University if you are interested in this procedure. They are the leading authority [in the world] on this procedure for veterinary patients. They will be able to give you the most accurate information about the procedure, help you find the closest centre, and determine whether your dog is a candidate. The contact email can be found at the bottom of the TEER info sheet (it is linked in the description but I will also link it here): www.dropbox.com/s/wg7gu3aiz9hzge0/Transcatheter%20Edge-to-Edge%20Repair-Information.pdf?dl=0 Best of luck and thank you for visiting our channel :) -Dr. Lopez

@janethrazalo6228 There is another video where we talk about dogs that ingest feminine hygiene products. One important thing is that if you end up with an obstruction that requires surgery it's a lot more expensive than if you had driven to the ER right away, and most dads care about the cost of vet bills. Here's that video and hope your dog is ok! Sorry I just saw this comment! -Dr. Lopez kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYS0lJ57i5qMfcU

@@TwinTreesVet Hi, how long would a 5 grade heart murmur progress into CHF if left untreated? Does a grade 5 heart murmur equal to stage b2 or C mitral valve disease? can dogs live a normal long life with mitral valve disease?
@TwinTreesVet
@TwinTreesVet Жыл бұрын
@@standforhumanitariancauses4756 First step- watch our other video to understand what a heart murmur actuallymeans. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqCZZmV7fZ2leKc Importantly, the intensity or loudness of the murmur is not necessarily correlated with the severity of the heart disease. You really need to see a cardiologist (for an echocardiogram and other assessments) to correctly stage the heart disease. Hope that helps and thank you for visiting our channel. Best of luck! -Dr. Lopez

I am in the New York Tri-state area and have a chihuahua diagnosed with mitral valve disease. Is the TEER procedure available somewhere in the Northeast U.S.?
@TwinTreesVet
@TwinTreesVet Жыл бұрын
@christineloo2364 Yes- your closest options might be Tufts or the University of Illinois. Dr. Orton and his team travelled to those hospitals to share this technology and help them start their centres. Here's another video (actually episode 1 ) with more of an overview. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3fMd5pjbJKlkJYsi=xj1EJKL2zb8mBvZt Hope that helps and best of luck! -Dr. Lopez
