A New Kind of STAR WARS Timeline

After years of deliberation, months of planning, and weeks of work, I’ve created the biggest ever timeline graphic for the Star Wars Timeline! I call it the Star Wars Timesaber. Love your work Dakota, I’m a big fan I have a few questions though about some placements that don’t sit quite right with me. I have a viewing order/ timeline for Star Wars and MCU and its many expanding amount of connected Multiverses. I can email you the list off of my phone if you’d like to compare notes, just let me know. I only included all screen media (Films,TV,Video Games,Shorts,In-Universe Ads,Story Reels,etc.)in my list for simplicity lol Don’t want to Undermine your work because it looks stunning and easily readable.

@@Geekritique Here are the items I'm having difficulty with placing in a concrete order: Young Jedi Adventures - Kai's Daring Droid Rescue, Tales of the Jedi S01E05, Tales of the Empire S01E05, Tales of the Empire S01E02, The Bad Batch S03E15 (Epilogue), Tales of the Empire S01E03. I have a few more that i can't quite nail down but if you could help me find the best spots for these I'd be sooooo grateful. These are my notes on all of the items mentioned above: *Young Jedi Adventures - Kai's Daring Droid Rescue (Takes place either in-between the 2nd and 4th short (as released) or before or after the first half of Young Jedi Adventures S01E02 or after Young Jedi Adventures S01E02 entirely. *Tales of the Jedi S01E05 takes place in either 22 or 21 BBY and has small flashforwards to 20 and 19 BBY but has so much conflicting evidence, Master Sinube training Ahsoka, Jesse's Armour having no markings, Ima Gun Di's cameo (discovered that this wasn't him but another nikto jedi who was killed my maul and Savage in the opening of I think S05E01 but not 100% sure) and the other thing throwing me for a loop is Ahsoka's new outfit which is only seen here and during the clone wars memories during Ahsoka S01E05 in which she says that this was one of their first battles sooooo 22BBY then? Ugh So, I had it after the clone wars film and before S03E01 for enough time to pass but could easily fit after S03E01 and the only other spot I've seen with all of the background jedi on coruscant is after S02E14 but idk it feels too late then. *Tales of the Empire S01E05 has to take place either sometime during Bad Batch S01 or just after it as not much time has passed since the previous short but I'm not sure where exactly my best guess is anywhere where there is a time jump so between S01E06 and S01E07, between S01E12 and S01E13 and after S01. *Tales of the Empire S01E06 I put between Jedi Survivor which is in 9BBY and Andor S01 in 5BBY because we don't see the 4th Sister again after Obi-Wan Kenobi in 9BBY and she isn't seen in any other media in 5BBY so I'd assume this occurs somewhere 9-5BBY (Unless she is mentioned in the 3rd jedi game with Cal then I'd re-evaluate the placement) oh and seeing as she would have left the Inquisitorious by 19BBY, 10-14 years plus force healing people would age her quite a lot I mean just look at Obi-Wan. *Tales of the Empire S01E02 has to take place after thrawn was promoted to Admiral in 9BBY (E.g. Kenobi S01 & Jedi Survivor) and before S03 of rebels i wasn't sure of this placement because morgan talks of the rising rebellion, so Post Andor S01 and maybe sometime during Rebels S02? (I have it currently after Rebels S02E20 just as a placeholder) *The Bad Batch S03E15 (Epilogue) has to occur during the rebel alliance but I'm unsure where, Omega says the rebellion needs pilots now more than ever but that and how old omega and hunter are roughly is really the only clues we have atm, I've seen people place this after Mon Mothma is rescued by the ghost crew in S03E16 but for now I put it after Rebels S03 and before Vader Immortal. *Tales of the Empire S01E03 has to be set before The Mandalorian S02E03 as Bo-Katan already knew Ahsoka was on Corvus after she probably told her to investigate but I'm not sure if this is set before S02E01, S02E02 or right before S02E03. Ok that's enough for now but just in case ill post my viewing order underneath as a separate comment. Thanks again Dakota Oh, and May the Force be with you ;)

Question: even though the interviews have been saying that The Acolyte takes place about 100 years before the prequels, the show’s opening graphic says it takes place 100 years before the rise of the Empire. So wouldn’t that make The Acolyte more recent?

That depends on what the “rise of the Empire” actually means. It could mean the beginning of the Reign of the Empire in 19 BBY. But I think ‘rise’ and ‘reign’ are different periods. I believe they consider the Prequel period to be when the Empire began to rise and take shape.

No spoilers in this video. If you’re interested, download the free timeline graphic in the description. I recommend just watching the movies first, then add shows into the mix.

If you don't mind 3rd party suggestions, my recommendations, depending on what you want to do: -If you only want to sample some of SW, the movies are the basics. The original trilogy (Episodes 4-6, aka: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi) being the most basic option. You can also expand out from there with all 9 numbered films (in either numerical (1-9), or release order (originals, prequels, sequels). And if you want to get a little crazy, try 4-5, 1-3, Rogue One, 4-5 (again), then 6-9. And possibly the Solo film, the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries, and the Andor series (season 1 out now, season 2 out next year) between 3 & Rogue One. That gives you the most benefits of story order and foreshadowing knowledge, even if it is a bit more unconventional. -If you just want to sample the animated stuff (as an addition to the above), I'd recommend the Rebels series. It starts off a little more childish than other shows, and the animation isn't as impressive as other shows, but quickly becomes one of the best stories. And it mostly stands alone (though it is set in roughly the middle of all Star Wars content, so there would be spoilers for the 1-3 prequel era and Clone Wars series). -If you are looking to just full-on dive in into all of Star Wars, from the films to the TV shows to the animated series (most of which should not be overlooked) and plan to stick to it, then a chronological order from Episode I: The Phantom Menace (or, optionally, the first 3 short episodes of Tales of the Jedi, then Episode I, then the 4th TOTJ and hold off on the last 2 shorts for now) onwards can be very rewarding (the material set between episodes 3 & 4 has begun to build a very special and satisfying arc across the era). Just be sure to consult a chronological viewing order for the Clone Wars animated series (long story short, initially produced like an anthology, then shifted to linear storytelling later on, so a viewing order helps straighten that stuff out). It's worth the effort in how much that show adds to the prequel era character development (but note that the final 4 episodes of the show's finale are set concurrent to Episode III, so you'll want to watch them after the film). For now I would hold off on watching The Acolyte (and Young Jedi Adventures), even though they occur first on the timeline. While I quite enjoy the show, it hasn't finished airing yet, and, for the moment, doesn't seem as strong an introduction to the rest of the franchise as Episode I or TOTJ due to it being set in a more distant past. I can be more specific if you'd like, but I don't want to step on Dakota's toes in the comments of his video.
