My P7500 just arrived today, and after drafting half the family (brother & sister) we got it in and I've spent the day setting it up and testing it.... it is a massive upgrade from my P600 and I just wanted to say thank you for the reviews and articles (forums included) it really helped me decide... though some of your advice was soundly ignored... the part of "do you really need one" ... I don't... but I wanted one... and I could justify the one off and the running costs of keeping it in good health .... so there we are.... just a note for future buyers... it is bigger than you think :D again, thanks for all your reviews.

Keith, was looking at the Epson website and saw that this, and some other printers, were available with a photospectrometer built in. Wondering if you can comment how much of a difference that makes when actually producing a print? For example, would it negate the need for printer profiles, would it automatically detect different paper types etc. This is just curiosity - I couldn’t possibly justify, or afford one! Love your channel.

Ah, the spectroproofer unit :-) I've tried it a few times [see my P7000 review www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-surecolor-p7000-printer-review/ ] At the time it was purely for commercial use. All that, which you think it could do - it doesn't ;-) I do believe it is now supported by the Mirage print software - that's quite an expensive route though.

I got on renting a P7500 in September. The beginning was not particularly auspicious. The printer “drank” the 75 ml cartridges and it took almost a month the get it in good working order, which didn’t happen until the dealer gave up and Epson sent a technician. It is a huge improvement over the previous (a Canon Pro 1000), which is a very nice printer but somewhat more temperamental and less robust. It works beautifully on Epson Luster. It took a while to get good results on Hahnemuhle Rag baryta. Apart from using Hahnemuhle’s paper profile, I am using an epson glossy paper setup on the printer (initially I tried heavy art paper and was a disaster). Probably the Luster setting would work well too. No issues whatsoever other than very tedious paper roll changes as the machine keeps insisting that the paper is misaligned (takes several attempts). I print basically for myself -has brought down the cost of producing a show- and the occasional numbered copy, and also for other photographers when they need high quality prints. I print always from Photoshop -have considered the RIP alternative but still hesitate on taking that step-.

Hey Keith, I just found your Chanel and really liked the video, I just bought the same printer and I’m having some trouble when doing the first print test, before showing the preview everything works perfect, but in the preview before printing it shows a different size of paper and the printing size changes, do you have any kind of solution for this problem ? 😢

Mr Cooper, could you please try to compare its gamut compared to P900? In other words, how much is the gain for green and orange channels? Violet is there for both. Thank you in advance.

It's slightly bigger - remember that this printer is mainly aimed at the proofing market. The differences won't be large - not enough that you would easily find images that print noticeably different. I don't have a P900 here to specifically compare. However, gamut is but a part of how good a printer/inkset does - too much emphasis is given to it in some quarters [one reason I never include 'gamut volumes' in my reviews] The extra inks are more about smoothness of reproduction within the gamut - something usually of more relevance to real world images that total gamut.

Hi, I was looking to buy Epson printer, but once I found out that we can't get Epson high end papers like signature and legacy papers in the UK, I changed my mind, they only available in the USA. And they don't offer alternative for those high end papers in the UK, not even planning to introduce papers that could match what the offer in the USA.

Indeed, but there are suppliers of papers every bit as good ;-) Certainly the lack of specific Epson papers is not a factor I'd ever take into account were I getting one of these printers. We have some excellent paper suppliers/manufacturers here Oh, that and Epson doesn't make their own paper ;-)

Not a paper I know to test (given it's not available here) - I'd suggest asking Chris at Paper Spectrum (my local Leicester supplier) - they are my go-to paper experts for comparison info. My suggestion would also be to check out Canson's legacy platine... BTW - the main review will still be the written one - it will have links to all the videos produced to supplement it

Hi Keith, firstly, may I just say I found your channel very recently and it has really helped me get a much better understanding of the printing process. Me and my partner are photographers and want to start printing our work. We have the new Apple studio display but all I hear is that it is terrible to print from! I respect your opinion much more than all the KZbin/sales channels scattered across the internet! Could you please give me your option on apple displays and if they are good enough to print from? I have watched your videos regarding the ICC profiles and that all makes sense. Same goes for the influence the paper has on printed images and I look forward to experimenting! My only nagging headache is - will I be chasing my tail with regards to colour accuracy from my display to print? Thanks in advance for any advice 👍🏻

Ah, the last time I used a big Apple display it was the original 23" LCD cinema display ;-) They have a habit of producing great looking monitors that work well for a few applications, but I'd personally rarely choose one (even if I did have the cash!) Whatever it is, it needs hardware calibration and profiling - setting monitors too bright is a great way to get prints too dark. Apple monitors tend to be used at far too high brightnesses. That said, the print never matches the screen - appreciating this is key to getting great prints which look good in their own rate. The print is the end result - if it looks good on screen, then that is a bonus ;-)

Hi Keith, I was wondering, if you take a photo with let's say a 20mp camera and you print it 24x36 and it looks like X (whatever X may be. let's say it looks good) at 1 meter. If you were to run that image through Gigapixel AI at 2x and then print it at 48x72, will it look like X at 1 meter or will it look worse?

Ah - how images 'look' is dependent on lots more than the simple geometry - viewing angle is changing. Two versions of the same image, of different size, but from the same distance will have a completely different apparent perspective. The fineness of detail will not be the difference that most people see (only other photographers look for ultra detail in my prints, and they never buy anything anyway) If I get a chance I'll see if I can address this. I may need a bigger printer though ;-)

@@KeithCooper What I meant was: would the image look just as smooth or would there be any sort of jaggedness or color transitions issue or will it look the same as the original, non-interpolated, but smaller version of the print? I don't expect to see any greater detail from interpolation, I was just wondering if the detail that's there would look the same, just bigger?

Ah, with GP AI, it creates fine detail (if used well and the image is suitable) Visually it should look like finer detail - however this is not what almost anyone looking at these two prints will 'see'. That to me is always a important thing to remind myself once I start to worry about detail too much ;-) I've covered aspects of this in several articles/videos about resizing. The key to GP AI 's success is that it can create 'plausible' detail.

@@KeithCooper I don't care so much about the finer detail, rather, I am looking to see whether a 2x larger print done with GP AI will visually look the same at the same distance, but at twice the size, as a smaller print done at native resolution. In other words, will a small tree still look like a tree at 1 meter or will it look like a blob unless one moves further away?

It will look like a tree If you assume the small one at 300ppi and the large one simply printed (no resampling) at 150ppi, then few at 1 metre distance have the visual acuity to spot the tiny difference in fine detail - obviously they are there, to an extent dependent on the source image and its processing. GP AI works rather in this area due to the way GP AI add 'plausible' detail - this is perhaps clearer in the examples in my [mainly written] reviews and articles where I look at how the processing of the source image makes a difference. The examples I use include mountains and trees on them - the key difference is the word 'plausible'. I'll be taking a few 11MP images and doing some bigger prints with the P7500

Simple answer yes Longer answer - there are workarounds for some specialist uses available, This is the sort of thing you'll find out before you get a printer, since they can need work on the printer, and will break any warranty. Personally I'd never even consider them (I do have a detailed P7000 review) I see no benefits, only potential issues...

Do try a some polypropylene...(ebay has some rolls cheap...100 pounds or so) and print out some wallpaper for the wife if the ink is on Epson lol. I've found my z6200 to be very useful in other areas besides just printing photos.

£100 - think again, I'm afraid I can't afford to buy stuff like that just for reviews ;-) I've a roll of Canon artificial polyprop paper from testing the PRO-2000 which I could try.
