Designing and developing an all-new take on a motorcycle with a long legacy is no easy task. Hear the Indian Scout design team discuss how the bike’s storied past enriched the development of the design and eventually carried this legendary name into the future Scout.

Indian Motorcycle So why does this bike squirm around the road so much and pull to the right? Are the tires just too budget or is it a design fault? Too high a profile on the tires? It's a major problem!

Just rode the Scout and Roadmaster at the SLC, UT Demo event. The Scout was neat but didn't rock my world. That bike would be a great starter bike for someone wanting to run around town or for short hops. The Roadmaster, on the other hand, is amazing. I had the chance to ride the Roadmaster a few times and it is a smooth, powerful, and beautiful motorcycle. It handles like a dream and just floats on the road. We ran up the ramp and then onto I-80 for a few miles then to Sugarhouse Park for slower driving. The bike "kicks butt" going uphill and picking up speed like crazy. It was a real head turning experience. I had several folks check the bike out as we went by in formation and one guy I stopped next to rolled his window down and told me that the Roadmaster was the neatest bike he had ever seen. The Roadmaster is a great bike and I look forward to owning one.

I must confess I am not a cruiser guy. Actually I've been looking into naked bikes or even a dual purpose to replace my old Ninja 500. But since I saw the Scout for the first time at the Calgary Motorcycle show, I just fell in love with it at first sight, it is just astonishing and it felt really light when I sat on it. I booked a demo ride in the spring, I I feel comfortable on it I might buy one. It would be perfect for medium distance rides, what I do the most here, but since it's very windy down here, I could use a good windscreen on it. Guys I think you're about to make history again with the rebirth of the Indian brand.

I rode the Scout a week ago in Montreal. It was a RIDICULOUS amount of fun. Everything about the bike is great. 100 HP, 25 inch seat height, just over 60 in wheel base. Beautiful exhaust note. I simply loved it. I can't sell my Kawasaki W650 fast enough to one. As much as I love a parallel twin, this engine is just so sweet. I swear that I was laughing on the ride. The only thing that I would add to this bike is a capped nut on the exhaust hangers. Indian did a super job on this bike... hats off to you guys. I just got to get my hands on one and I'll keep it forever. Those who question its looks... wait until you see it in person, you will elbow your way through to get a closer look.

rysammy I like the idea of the Street 750, without doubt. I'm not in love with the look, as I am with the look of the Indian, but that's definitely a preference thing. That all said, I've read in a lot of places that the finish of those H-D bikes is not good. A lot of people say they look cheap.
@PeterDad6010 жыл бұрын
rysammy Well I prefer the old air cooled v-twin myself and I no longer race. I prefer a good amount of low end torque for simply twisting the throttle just a little and still get the bike to get up and go.

I JUST want to see them offer a quality product to rival that of the foreign makes and to give Victory and Indian a run for the money!

beautiful bike. Crotch rocket bikes aren't really my style and the three bikes I listed are the ones I've kind of narrowed it down to.

It looks like a good first pass for a new Scout. It is pretty unlikely I'll buy a bike with a 3.3 gallon tank but I'm hopeful other models will have a fuel tank big enough to actually go past the city limits. Not likely but my preferred next model would be an American take on a sporty, (relatively) lightweight touring bike to complement the luxury touring Chief. Goose

Indian Motorcycles are awesome to say the least and very high quality, attractive bikes. Harley and many of their riders/owners believe they are the best there is and that Indian just copies them. Indian came before Harley but state that the original company isn't around anymore because it was passed through many companies and people to get where it is today, which frankly is insulting. There was a Harley only guy saying this on a video on KZbin recently which is just flat out insulting.Why such hate? Or is it just envy and the fact that they have real competition from Indian. I personally think Indian motorcycles are better in many ways and if Harley isn't careful, they will be going away soon at the rate their going and those people will be coming over to Indian at some point. They need to spend more time evolving and staying relevant moving into the future instead selling overpriced nostalgia masquerading as the best there is and ever will be.

This was the original Victory Liquid cooled design, with an Indian Badge. You can fool some folks but many really know. Too bad you missed the spirit of the true Indian Scout.

Which would be?
@pedroc682310 жыл бұрын
prealpha2 If you have to ask then you do not know.
@pedroc682310 жыл бұрын
This design was the original design that was for the Victory line. It was probably meant to be the Gunner, but someone decided wait, we have all these parts lets quickly put a bike together and call it the Gunner and and Re-Badge this water cooled bike into an Indian Scout. Took minimal effort but probably will get a big return. Does not fit in line with the design or style of the new Indian models.
@prealpha210 жыл бұрын
Pedro C Your reply doesn't add up. Victories all use a bigger air cooled engine and have a bigger/different frame. How do you know this was for the victory line? Also do you honestly think any company has enough parts laying around to build an entire line of something, gotta call BS on you. The bike is what you make of it. To say it doesn't capsure 'the spirit' of the it reflects more on you then it does the bike. Enjoy the road.
@pedroc682310 жыл бұрын
prealpha2 I am well aware of the Vic cooling., I have owned 3. The same can be said for the Indians all air cooled. The Liquid cooled design was to be an entry level Victory design to compete with the HD Sportster. and Street. Just look at the current Indian line which one does not belong? If you look closely at the Scout you can even see re-used parts from other other Vic lines. If it was a from the ground design to mimic the Scout as the other bikes have in the line then they missed the mark. Placing an Indian Badge on a Bike does not make it an Indian. its a money making opportunity with minimal effort. And that's fine. Let me ask do you see anything on the current Indian line other than the Scout that you would say hey that looks like a Victory part? The answer is flat out no. If you look at the original design patent renderings, you see Vic styled fenders, Vic styled side covers, Vic styled wheels etc. here it is look for yourself, It says very clearly liquid cooled Victory. blog.motorcycle.com/2014/04/21/design/polaris-registers-design-liquid-cooled-victory/ If you see this bike on the street, and the badge was covered up would you say hey look and Indian. I think not. The BS is not me my friend the BS is making you think look a new and improved scout. The Indian riders and many I have already spoken to that put me to shame on Indians expressed the same sentiment. it will sell the price is good, looks good I am not sure about performance we will see today, But a Scout it is not.

I do not plan on Riding it, Not in the market for a small entry level under powered cruiser. It says 100HP but that's at the crank. its more like 75-85HP at the wheels. and Tq at 5k is more like 60. I have owned 3 other Vics and did all the mods to them. I was waiting on a power cruiser from Indian, the 111 is under powered. My thought was the Scout with an in line 4 or triple with High revving type tuning . I will wait for the second bike and Hope now that Victory comes out with something new. I ended up with a 2013 Ducati Diavel to fill that power hungry side I have always had 2 bikes so still hoping Vic would do something new and totally different. I am getting the impression this will not happen as the focus for Polaris is the Indian and Slingshot.. So for now the stable is one Ducati Diavel and the dream of a high performance Indian Scout is dead for me.
@1984xlx10 жыл бұрын
What is your opinion of the Harley V-Rod? I think the Scout comes closer to that than a Sportster. And where did you find that the HP rating is at the crank, not the wheel?
@pedroc682310 жыл бұрын
Michael Degrood Every single Victory and Indian by Polaris specs are at the crank. it is common practice to show the highest possible power. the reality is that that when you dyno the bike and get 84Hp from a Victory that they say have 109Hp tells the story. The same applies to the Indian. It is common practice unless they specify at the rear wheel, RWHP I have not seen documentation that says this is so but it is. if it was 100HP at the rear wheel I would be impressed. from first hand experience I have seen this on several dynos. you get a based run to get started and are amazed why O why am I getting 84Hp the specs say 109. well there is about a 15% loss in power going from the crank to the rear wheel. Not that its a big deal but most motorcycle enthusiast's want to know rear wheel. Example my Ducati Diavel specs 162HP , when dynoed 146HP at the wheel. I like the look of the V-rod it is a beast in terms of maintenance. The V-Rod is very Torqueeee, it is subjective but only a head to head comparo then you can see the difference, I am sure that will happen. I think the Scout deserves a test ride it just does'nt do anything for me, looks like to many other bikes. The other Indians in the line are clear what they are.
@rysammy10 жыл бұрын
I sure hope they don't make an inline 3. I really hope they come out with an air cooled inline 4. I agree with the 111 being under powered. It sure doesn't rev up like a Harley big twin.

rysammy Having an rev too high or too much can be a bad thing. But we all know that Harleys are the greatest bike in the world (sarcasm).
@rysammy10 жыл бұрын
Okie Rider I didn't mean that the Harley can turn more rpms than the Chief. I meant that the Harley makes the power quicker. Gets to the rpm desired quicker, better throttle response. That's what I really meant. Oh I known Harley isn't the best bike manufactured by any means

Wow, what a disappointment. It seriously lacks resemblance to the older Indians. It looks cheap and Japanese, not at all like a nostalgic american cruiser should look like. And the radiator especially spoils the look. Air cooled engines are very capable of high horsepower, clean emissions and longevity, I feel Polaris took the easy way out. Even though I am a long time and loyal Polaris Sled owner, I say "Shame on you Polaris"......
