at 3.21 this is a INSERT knob (not instrument), activates any inserts you connect into it. And the PRE knob is to have the insert "pre" eq section. cheers

For this amount of money you can buy an interface with way more functionality + a very nice preamp. Colt's use the phrasing no brainer is certainly a brainer to me. There should be lots of questioning on your investment. The biggest reason to buy this is because you want it, and that's all cool if you do. Any other justification on features and audio results is questionable.

The disadvantage of this unit is that it is directly tied to computer. A 25 year old 1073 is worth a lot of money. In 25 years time, will I even be able to connect to a modern computer? I would prefer to have a seperate interface, even though now it’s 2 units instead of one.

It's no doubt an excellent solution for people who want to record. Being a voice over artist, I definitely get the appeal, but I'd prefer something that sounds a little cleaner and transparent, which is why I use the Neumann MT48. With that said, gosh, Colt, you have a great sound.

One does NOT have to drive a 1073 into saturation. Listen to Colt's voice in the beginning; clean as a whistle.

I have an AMS 1073 from a couple of years back. No digital/soundcard stuff in there. Rupert Neve Designs also have alternative options that'll suit voice-over, studio recording etc (Newton channel etc). Its weird, I find myself using the Tonebeast a lot more these days and eq/compression gets done in the DAW. I'm just a lone musician though, what do I know. 😁

Salut pour ma part , je dispose du Neve 1073 DPX et j'en suis vraiment content . J'ai lu certains commentaires , oui on achète ce genre de préampli forcément, si on juge en avoir l'utilité . Me concernant , je voulais savoir, ou plutot connaitre la différence , entre une machine à 3000 Euros et un plugin UAD à 299 Euros . Mon verdict est le suivant, je reconnais que le plugin est assez proche du Hardware à la prise , mais n'a plus rien à voir du tout quand on repasse, une basse ou voix dans la machine , là le plugin , ne peut plus lutter . Donc voici pourquoi ,je ne suis pas pret de lacher mon 1073, surtout que je repasse tout dedans ........

The Neve 1073 SPX and DPX are my favorite preamps out there. I got the SPX-D when it came out which I like, but doesn't make sense for me to have more than 1.

I've got the same compulsion with everything in pairs for audio, but in this instance it doesn't make sense for me because I've already got top a quality interface and conversion, headphone distribution & monitoring, and racks of Neve 1073 variants. (I do have API and other preamps, but Neve are my favorite for the most part.) For me it would be like having 2 talk-back mics, an extra keyboard on my desk, an extra mouse, or two monitor controllers.

It's an audio interface! why didn't you just say that? One mic pre is not enough. I have a 1073DPX why on earth didn't they do a Neve 1073DPX-D? Also your drums are terrible so is the bass, so dire..

I don’t know, the 1073 is a nice pre-amp but way overpriced and overhyped for what it does. There are definitely better and cheaper options available but I’m not going to mention them otherwise used gear prices on those go to the roof 😂
