It's great that you share your enthusiasm for your new kit, and give a rational explanation of both its function and the reason for your upgrade.

Cheers FIbber. I really do try and show the thought process as often in the sailing world you don't get that and its hard to understand why people do things. Glad to have helped!

What a great convenient life jacket to have, while on your Sinbad Voyages... Practical too... 👍
@SailingWithDaveАй бұрын
Haha! I'll have to call the next sea voyage "the voyage of Sinbad"!!

It's proven to be a great PFD. I do like pockets and this one has a lot of them!!!

Thank you for this video. I personnaly have "Décathlon PFD". The good things : they are made for the french 50 N registration but, in fact, they have 70 N flotation. They also have a strap to put between you legs to avoid the PFD to go up (as you showed us with your black PFD. The bad thing (for you) : they have no pocket at all...🙂

My partner has one of those as she doesn't really come sailing very often, so just wanted a cheap one. They're really good for the price and work well. My little one has one too and the straps for her are really good on them. I actually rate the Decathlon stuff. The sailing gloves have outlasted anything else and are stiull going string and the waterproof boarding top I have is very handy for a light shower and still works well too.

Looks like a very good PFD, the designs of these have got a lot better. As you rightly said, if it's not comfortable you'll not wear it. I have a Palm Kola Angler PFD for the fishing kayak. Very similar.

Definitely a better fit and I love all those pockets!! I looked at the Palm kit too, but I think many of the ones I liked were simply not in stock.

A Wichard Rescue Knife (or similar) could be mounted to the upper left mounting tab. Hope to see you trying the PFD in the water.

Aha, yes I think it snaps in onto an adapter. I have a cheap knife that keeps going rusty and needs sharpening so I may have to look for one soon!

Hi Dave, I'd be keen on having a harness point for solo sailing.
@SailingWithDaveАй бұрын
Hi Louise, cheers for the comment. That opens up a big debate, believe me!!! I made and tested a harness strap and got quite a bit of flack for that. Some liked the idea, some thought it was dangerous on a dinghy to tie yourself to it. It has left me partially confused!!! I still have one but haven't used it, I guess I sail in conditions where its not really needed.

Looks good Dave but is that a tardis in the back of the room? 😊

I wish it was, I could use it to go back in time to brilliant sailing weather days and go sailing!!!

Have you tried getting back into your boat from the water with all those gadgets. I'd suggest you will find they dramatically impeed your ability to climb over the side..
@SailingWithDave15 күн бұрын
If the Lugger capsizes then she's done anyway as she will swamp. Having the vhf with me would be beneficial in that case. I don't really fill the pockets up with much at all so I find the pfd still leaves me with plenty of ability to swim and rebiard if necessary.
@Leighbuoy15 күн бұрын
I guess a swamped boat would make it easier, but my point is relevant to those watching your video who have craft that don't swamp..

Use a peace of your webbing and make a crutch strap, or it won't ride up.
@SailingWithDaveАй бұрын
Good advice. I hink this has tabs to connect one too and I have plenty of webbing left from my tent projects so will try and make one.
