Hi Stu. If the solar panel (400 + watts) is a regular domestic unit, watch for max open circuit voltage! I think many mppt controllers only take max 25 volts? Some panels can produce much higher voltages than charge controllers can handle. I've opted for several flexi-panels in parallel on my van. Plus much lighter, smaller and easier to fill-up that roof space. Shop around though for enhanced " perc" versions... Although they do need ventilation being bonded direct to the roof. Aero dynamic and walkable too! I got 4 x 100watts. Adding a another 4. Nice to see your business doing so well. Hard work paying off.

Spot on regarding the electrics, I always refused to give Joe Public advice since many misunderstand or forget things. One guy told me how a lad at B&Q had told him to wire in a mains socket,and he asked if it was correct. I offered two bits of advice, follow the instructions and he would most likely have a bad accident, and if he had to ask then he should engage a professional electrician to do the job.

I wouldn't get to excited about 12v induction hob. The fundamental way in which they work requires an A.C current. Therefore a 12v induction hub will need a dc to ac inverter built in which will have losses, so either way an inverter is required. With regard to cable the biggest mistake that people make is that they only choose cable size according to maximum current. You also need to consider voltage drop along cables especially on cables from alternator to aux battery. Volt drop can cause all sorts of problems.
@VanologyConversions11 ай бұрын
That was the first question I asked and they tell me that it doesn’t have an inverter, it’s due to be launch in a few months so we’ll soon find out. Your exactly right on cable length and voltage drop plus there are other factors to consider hence why I won’t teach people to do it 👍🏻

@VanologyConversions11 ай бұрын
Hello, okay so your mppt controller isn’t the correct strength for your panel. There is risk of damage to your controller or inefficient charging. Your panels will put 37.5 amps out so a 40a would be more suitable. I’m no specialist in mppt controllers so hopefully someone here will come along and give stronger advice 👍🏻
