T Coronae Borealis, also known as T CrB, last brightened in 1946, and astronomers have predicted it could brighten again between now and September 2024.
@chaosh70406 күн бұрын
Actually they predict it can brighten between now & September...but it can be anytime between now & September 2026... It has a general 80 year cycle & it last brightened Feb 1946...& Before that it was in May, 1866...following that cycle it should be around Nov of 2025. All of these sites saying it is supposed to happen between now & September know they mean as late as September 2026 but they're just saying September (which isn't actually a lie now is it) to get clicks.

@chaosh70406 күн бұрын
Keep in mind that "soon" in space terms can mean millions of years seeing as stars tend to last billions of years... It can be as long as September 2026...though Nov 2025 would be more on schedule compared to the last 2 occurrences...though it could happen anytime between now & then as space doesn't set an alarm clock.

Although rare (ok..actually very rare) a nova can actually cause the planet that's brightening to go super nova...which would be a much brighter brightening if that occurs. (Not sure if that can cause the red giant it is in close proximity to that it's getting it's nova "fuel" from to go supernova or not but that would definitely cause a really spectacular "brightening" if it does).

That's an interesting idea about a recurring nova in the Antares system. While I can't fince any evidence for that, astronomy is always evolving. Do you have any sources you could share that discuss these the novae? There might be some confusion about the Antares system. It's a binary with a red giant and a hot star, but novae typically happen in white dwarf systems. The stars are likely too far apart for such frequent dramatic events. Maybe I'm crazy, thoughts? 😁
