Mvg Glenn
@DutchReefer Жыл бұрын

Thanks for the video. I have the same tank and am trying to get the reef matt installed. Did you remove the one pane of glass where the the downpipe and emergency downpipe come into the sump?
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
You're welcome John! Yeah I definitely removed all the glass panes, including that one. Because the downpipe directly connects to the ReefMat you have to remove it

New video😎love it! My 525xl last year had the seam issues, very scary! Luckily Red Sea is located where I live and picked up the new 525xl with the reinforced seams as you show. I love my 525xl, just had to take all out but the reef needed rearranging 😊.
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Yesss! Oof yeah that seam issue is very persistent in the older generation tanks, I can imagine you got a proper scare! To take everything out is a task but then again starting with a new fresh tank is also something to enjoy after all the hard work!

Hello Dutch Reefer, I'm really interested to know how you are able to setup your tank with all livestock in just a week. Did you cycle it beforehand or are you cycling it all the livestock in at the moment. I will be upgrading soon and looking at all options on how to move everything across trouble free
@DutchReefer Жыл бұрын
Hiya! I always do the "big bang" migration where I take all the rocks and livestock from my old tank into my new one. The only thing I never re-use is sand, since that carries a lot of nasty stuff when you take it out of the tank. About 50% of the old water and 50% freshly made water (RODI with Aquaforest Hybrid salt)

Hey! Geweldige video's man!
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Dankjwel Fonzy! Succes!

Hey very informative video! Was wondering what UV skimmer you’re using? Looks like it fits very nice in the cabinet there.

@@DutchReefer thank you so much for the response! I’m also wondering what are your thoughts on the new down flow valve? The previous one I replaced with a gate valve but wondering if the new version has the same issues and should be replaced or if it’s actually good like RS said
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneKnowsThings it's actually good! It turns very smoothly and I rarely have to adjust it. Also since it's at the front of the tank, it's easy to reach. Combined with a Reef Mat it works like a charm :)

Lovely tank, thanks for the video :) I am planning in the future having a mixed reef tank and including also a Blue Ribbon Eel, which is so rare to come across on YT. How yours is doing? Which are the crustaceans and fish you avoid due to her? I found a lot of info that it can attack smaller crustaceans and fish.
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Igor!!! Blue Ribbons are just so cool to keep and watch, they are amazing creatures. Mine has been in my tank(s) for over 2 years so it's doing very well, feeding him a lancefish every other day so it won't attack any fish or crusts. He has been behaving well :) ... The only fish I'd probably avoid are very slow small fish, other than that she's pretty slow so I'm not too worried about normal fish.

Nice update! That nano was pretty nice but I could see this nee tank being crazy nice like the other red sea you had. 3 tanks on water change day isn't fun I'm sure. Hope to see more
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! Yeah the Nano was really good, just VERY limited in what I could keep in there. So the Reefer 425 feels like a much bigger tank that I can fill with goodies :) instead of a big tank that feels like a chore. More to follow for sure!

Congrats on the new tank!! I have a Waterbox 100.3. It's a 3 foot tank. I have been considering an upgrade to a 4 or 5 foot tank. I have been very happy with the quality of the Waterbox tanks. With the new improvements made by Red Sea, I will take another look at their tanks. I have to admit the previous problems with the separating glass scared me away. Also, the Fox Face in your tank doesn't have the yellow color. Is that a change as they age? Or, is your fish a different species? I had considered a Fox Face for my 3 foot tank, but considered it too small. Congrats again on your new tank, and good luck in the future!!
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Gary! Yeah I had a Reefer before but the glass separation really scared me too, I was one of the first to experience that with the 525... But the quality on the G2's is really amazing, can't see this coming apart! And it's a Magnificus Foxface :) they're a different species! Thanks man :)

What is your opinion on the glass? My front glass came apart on my E260 and im getting a replacement under warranty....but im thinking now is a good time go upgrade. Looking at this model in particular.
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
The glass on the G2's is really well put together. On top of that they added a bunch of supports for the cabinet/stand and the glass has extra protection in all corners (but the back)

I have been researching this exact tank, you have covered many areas I have been pondering on! I am planning on getting a skimmer and mat filter, my main concerns are maturing the tank and getting some corals in as a complete noob. Do you have any suggestions suggestions starter corals and advice on tank placement/light settings? Much appreciated 👍👍
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you're completely new, you're gonna learn a lot of stuff the hard way. You can watch as many video's and read as many books as you like, but you will still learn by doing most of the stuff. Don't let that keep you back though! I can recommend Stylophora, Montipora, Green Star Polyp and Caulastrea as some beautiful starter corals.

Hi Jasper, it's exactly 40cm wide and it's very high so you wouldn't have to worry about that. Do make sure that the tank is far enough off the wall to make sure the heat can get away from the cabinet.

I miss your videos but I do have to ask this question why did you downsize I still like the new tank as well do you think you was Russian on the big tank just didn’t have enough patience and I also know it is a little bit more money I was just curious
@DutchReefer2 жыл бұрын
It's a combination of a lot of things, maybe I'll dedicate my next video to that subject :) but in short: everything is much more expensive (including power usage) and after three years of trying I couldn't get it under control. Every step I took cost me a lot of money and in the end I asked myself is it still worth it and how much will it cost me. Also the tank itself was less than ideal (low cabinet, some rust emerging, the wood was slowly getting worse. So that's why I decided on this fresh start in something more manageable!
