I mean if Simon is opening the flood gates of him meeting the constructors... I kinda want an hour of someone asking vaguely sudoku-related questions with Simon and Phistomefel in the hot seats. Or the two of them just having a friendly meet and greet where one of them is hosting the other for a week or so and showing the other around the city. And they are just having a good time all around. I'd just like to see some genuine bonding among cool people "off the battleground".

29:49 You can also see the two remaining cells in box 2 are even by looking at the 5-3 line that doubles back through box 3 - it will have to be 5 odd/3 even since you can't put 5 even digits in one box, and that leaves an even and an odd in the two remaining cells in box 3, which uses up the fifth odd in row 3.

Did anyone else spend half the video attempting to tell Simon telepathically about the two even digits in Box 2 and the location of 5 in Box 5? Good to see Simon solve this new type of puzzle, and yet infuriating witnessing him miss the obvious clues!

I made 1 incorrect deduction in box 9 about the arrangement of the parity and ran into a ricket, but after fixing that, it all solved itself. Your logic for the parities is frequently much simpler than mine, I know I must have spent a half hour just thinking about that 1524, and all the options for the second set in their same rows and columns to deduce which combos needed to be where.

I don’t think this is a new puzzle type. I seem to recall a puzzle solved on this channel that used this rule set, except the lines looked like “between lines” and the digits in the circles counted the odd/even digits in the line. EDIT: Couldn't think of it before, but found it. It's called "Parity Lines" by ExFalsoQuodlibet, and was featured in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpPXY5yVasikpqssi=CZwNeUbl-u923b50

5:00 The double-Z line could have been drawn the other way without change in content. That part is still symmetric despite the drawing. The only thing breaking the symmetry is the white dot in block 1. Of course, I take the position that once a symmetry is broken, it's broken completely in Sudoku. 11:50 Once I figured that the two red cells are both 3s, I realized that with only one odd left on the line, I wouldn't put it past the setter to make that third odd another 3. It wasn't, though. It turned out to be 7.

For the initial break-in you can also prove that the top U in box one has to be a 24 pair without getting the 3s on the end of the line that goes through the middle box. It's a bit more convoluted though. If you try to make that U a 15, then you have to get 5 odds on it since there's already 2 odds present. the white dot in R1 means that the lone even would have to be up there, so all three squares on the line in R2 are odd. You also have to put an odd on the white dot in box 3 and then because of the 789 triple in box one there has to be at least one more odd in R2 either C1 or C2. That makes five required odds in R2 so they've all been used up. Then we have the 8 cell U with it's ends in box 2, C6. We've used all our R2 odds up already, so R2C6 has to be even now. That means that the only possible combo for the ends is 26. Since, again, all the R2 odds are accounted for there must be two more evens in R2 on the line. That now means 6 evens and 2 odds on that line. Well, since, once again, all the R2 odds are used up the second odd must go on R1 but that uses up all the odds that can go on that line. Moving left there are two dominoes with a dot that must both have exactly one odd each, and then R1C1 is odd. That's only 4 odds total in R1 and no place to put a fifth. Therefore, the top U in box one cannot be a 15. Mark the U ends in box 1 as 15 and 24 appropriately and you quickly get to the exact same spot Simon is at at 13:00

Very interesting constraint. For some reason my brain had a hard time accepting that (say) an even number sitting at one of the extremes didn't necessarilly indicate the number of even numbers along the line (e.g., a 2 may actually indicate that there are 2 odd numbers), so I got confused a couple of times. Which to me makes this even more remarkable: any puzzle forcing me to suppress these wrong "instincts" is a good puzzle, in that my brain has to work a bit harder.

I didn't calculate the 3-3 line before I calculated that r12c6 were a 3-5 pair in some order. I did this by calculating the possible totals of odd digits between r12c1-5. If r12c3 was a 15 pair, 5 of the digits on the line plus the 7 and the 9 in b1 would produce 7 odd digits already accounted for in r12, and 3 odd digits not accounted for. If, on the other hand, there was a 24 pair in r12c3, there would be two odds on its line plus the 79 and the white kropki. This produces 5 of the 10 odd digits needed for r12. Either way, it requires a 35 pair between r12c6.

Seemed to miss something huge at @14:08, 4 odds already in column 2 and 4 odds implied in column 1 means the bottom left line has 1 odd in column 1 and 1 odd in column 2, so 2 odds. You instantly know that that line has 2 and 6 on its ends. He still got there quick but in a different way.

The Werefrog got the break in of box 1's 1245 parity by assuming the 4-2 had to be odd, then traced how many odds/evens go in, and found the 5-3 would need to be even, but also that it would be a 5-3 for total parity, so it would be odd. Thus, that paring had to be the 4-2. After doing all then, then noticed the other 6 length that needed 3s on the ends.

The digits on the tips of the *U-shaped lines* can be disambiguated independently of all the other lines. Based on elementary SET, those in *rows 1-2* must have the same number of even digits as those in *columns 1-2* ... this allows you to deduce, independently of every other clues, that *🔹1+7 = 8* cannot be used, *🔹2+6 = 8* must be in the same rows (or columns) as *1+5 = 6,* *🔹3+5 = 8* must be in the same rows (or columns) as *2+4 = 6,* which implies that the *2x2 square* in the upper left corner of the grid must contain *1 even* and *3 odd* digits. You do not need to solve for the tips in *boxes 3* and *7* (3+3 = 6) to disambiguate the tips in *box 1,* as shown by Simon, although Simon's approach is easier and probably coincides with the intended logic path.

If he'd coloured the two dominoes in box 2 the same colour then they'd have just become a solid 2x2 block, and you wouldn't immediately know if the dominoes were vertical or horizontal. Wow, I misread a VERY small aspect of the rules and just wasted SO MUCH TIME 😅 Note to everybody trying this: The lines DO NOT need to have unique values! The value at the end of a line can therefore be more than 5! I put 6 and 5 as the second and third values in the first row, respectively, and wasted SO MUCH TIME just coming to a contradiction. Please don’t make the same mistake I did 😅
