I know exactly what you're feeling as when we bought our retirement cottage there was not one window that we could open. After 14 years of remodeling and finally having all new windows I went around the cottage opening and closing each and every one of those new windows singing the praises of God AND my crew (Jack and his buddy) for the freedom, fresh air and light...and there was bright beautiful light as I have NEVER experienced. Now I have a view of the river from side to front to side and a view of the road in the back. Bird houses and feeders everywhere and when I stitch, read or watch youtube...I see anything I choose to look at. Exhilarating and you will wonder how you ever lived with out those windows as they give one a whole new perspective on life. Congratulations on yet another project to check off your "to do" list. MERRY, MERRY! :):):)

I knew I was going to love it but I actually think it's changing the way I feel when I'm inside - I feel more motivated and happy. It's amazing what a little light can do. I'm so grateful! xo

Hey! This is a great video, thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, how much did you pay to have this done? I'm in Appalachia so I'm sure the prices are different, but I'd like to just get an idea of the cost for the labor, framing, and window

Log cabins are fascinating. Do they stay warm when there's no insulation? I live in Sweden and here houses are generally well insulated and I haven't been in any log houses without insulation (or rarely at all) where people actually lives. =) And great job with the windows. Good light is so important. Especially in the winter months! =)
@LittleMountainRanch

They stay warm once they are warm, but it takes a long time to heat them up. Our house was well built and is chinked (the space between the logs is filled with filler) so it's better than other ones I've lived in. I agree, good light is sooooo important!
@RainandGiraffes

Little Mountain Ranch Ah. That was my guess (that the heat stay fairly well inside) I lived in northern Sweden as a kid and they have a special kind of log houses called “härbre” there. But those i was inside was mostly used for storage. And I was 4 when we moved so I don’t remember them that well =) But if you’re interested in how they look you can google it. It’s fascinating how houses are built in other parts of the world =)

Hello Chelsea, this is Deb here in Wichita Kansas United States. I love how this turned out. Actually I was watching a video that you posted and it referred back to these videos on this makeover. I think there's a total of three of them and then I will go back and watch the one for the kitchen because I want to watch them in the order that they were done. Can't wait to see what you are doing now. Take care and God bless Deb

I must have linked the playlist instead of the kitchen video, but hopefully it's there too.
@gabbiesmeemee
@gabbiesmeemee 5 жыл бұрын
No I think you did it right it linked to the first one which was I think the fireplace or maybe that was the second one there was a total of 3, that were in the little circle at the top I washed all three of those and then went back and watched the kitchen video but neither of the three were linked back to the original video if that makes sense. Thank you for responding to my comment, I live vicariously through you guys on KZbin who are running homesteads and ranches. After a total of 5 surgeries between my neck and my back, I'm not sure of what my future holds as far as homesteading. My daughter has been on again off again about homesteading just long enough to get me hyped up about it and then she turns into the millennial and says why we don't need that LOL every time I try to stock up on food, some point during the month she doesn't have money and we'll have to go shopping in my food that is for in case something happens God forbid. with our government being the way it is right now we never know. I tell my kids I would rather have it, and die never having used it, then to need it and not have it. I guess I'll be wherever the good Lord puts me if it's meant for me to be on a Homestead , whether it be mine or helping on somebody else's I'm not quite sure. I do know I can grow food and have successfully done so on many occasions. trying to build my tools one by one drives my children nuts. again they say why do you buy it if you don't need it right now. and again I say I would rather have it and not need it in the event of an emergency. I wish somebody had a little mother-in-law's quarters that lived on a homestead that I could exchange work for rent and utilities. that sounds like something that I could do. now if I can just figure out how to find that person that would have one. thank you again for responding. take care and God bless Deb

Ok add me to those voices commenting on the kids helping. Very encouraging to see Ben sting and recovering too. Sam, boy have I got some projects for you and Kate too! Aurora what a commentator to wrap up her feelings in one word “relaxing”! I will pick your brains as to how that center beam was connected to the logs and etc when we get to see it first hand. TfbdoS I loved the video! I was so anticipating it and thought the way you presented it just flowed so well. Curious as a wood worker if you might use the cut out logs for some deck furniture? I saw them nearing the wood shed when that thought came to mind. Sit with a cup of tea in the sunshine by the windows and enjoy them!

WOW!!! What an amazing transformation... It looks awesome!!! Will you have to try and match the stain eventually?
@LittleMountainRanch
@LittleMountainRanch 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'll be doing that right away. I'm drywallig and flooring in that room in the next few weeks so I thought I'd wait until the carpet was ripped out before staining. I think the stain on the logs is clear but yellowed with age so I'm not sure how I'm going to match it.

Oh I am so excited for you!! I have a large south facing window that I just love so I believe I know how you feel. I have my chair positioned so with a slight turn of my head I can look out over our pasture and also see over to the big barn where the animals are. I always feel I can see the surroundings. I loved seeing the smile it brought to your face. A window is a common thing these days but a new one can bring great joy :)) Thanks for sharing.
