Brennan is on like 20 levels of New York lore with this campaign. Golems are obviously Jewish, and he's wrestling with Jewish ghosts by a Jewish bagel place. They think they need Wally to learn about biblical stuff because he's obviously entwined with religious lore, but instead he points out Emma Lazarus, who was a Jewish activist! I don't know if he did all this on purpose, but that's genius.

Willy might seriously be the most "correct" and best media depiction of a golem I have ever seen outside of Jewish folklore itself. The vast majority of fantasy just uses 'golem' as a synonym for 'mindless earth construct', and even in series like Discworld where they're given more depth, the aspect of "embodied protector of the Jewish people" is missing. "Chill Tanakh-educated golem who patrols to keep the neighborhood safe and wants to make sure you're eating enough" just feels *right* in a way I never knew I was missing until now.

Random fun fact! Vampire lore about them not showing up in mirrors or photographs is because old fashioned mirrors were backed with silver, and some early types of photographs were developed using silver in the chemical solution, and silver is considered purifying against evil. So old mirrors and old photograph methods would prevent vampires from being seen because they were considered evil. Modern mirrors and photos are made differently tho so a vampire could show up in them (due to the lack of silver). Loving the show! It's so good! :D

@@kharonhaden5136 yeah, good point. I was going to talk about the line between refracion and reflection, but that seems solid enough and I wound up getting distracted by the realization that vampires would have a difficult time improving their looks because of a lack of mirrors, and it's weird how vampires are always depicted as dashing when it'd be super hard to do your hair without a reflection

My favourite thing about Brennan is how easily he just embodies these characters. Like whenever he does a character's voice his stature changes and his face and for a moment, you almost forget he's Brennan Lee Mulligan, he is that character. And that is as close to real magic as we can get
