Hi! Filipino here! It's weirdly complicated, but the simplest answer is that the Philippines (from Philip) is an english name. Filipino (from Felipe) is Spanish, reflective of both the culture and the language left by the Spaniards. Our currency is also the Philippine Peso (PHP), similar to that of Mexico! P.S. The reason why we changed it to filipino is to acknowledge the proper spanish spelling, philippines is the one that america named us after they bought us from spain, but originally spain calls us "las felipinas" or "the felipinas" so technically we didnt really changed it we just return it to its original name while the countries name staying americanized.
