Japan's nightlife is home to hundreds of "host clubs." These are nightclubs where women pay men simply for their attention and affection. The male "hosts" can make as much as $200,000 a night. Not only do they get large tips from the female customers, they're also present with lavish gifts ranging from expensive alcohol to designer clothing. Vocativ went to Japan and spoke to Hikaru Aizawa, who is perhaps the most famous Japanese host of all.

I'm Japanese let's say , this video is just good side of this job. The backgrounds of "Hostclub" is awful than our guessing. They get up at night and sleep in the morning. During the job, Customers give them terrible harassments like "Why you're so ugly?" "Drink a bottle of wine in the moment" But they can't against it because they have a strict quota of proceed. throw up everyday but need to behave like a great men on everyday. They are always aliving in a competition with strong pressure. It's absolutely unhealthy life

i understand but getting $200k "a night" makes all that alot easier to swallow along with " they can quit anytime they want" . I guess the saying , " it comes with the territory" is fitting.

@@redtesta That's an exaggeration. It's only $200K if you're the best of the best. Most people make like $15-$30 an hour. Which is still good for just talking to people and partying with them. But not all that great.

It's really not "niche", it's the Japanese equivalent of strip-clubs. And it looks all fun and games from the outside, but I'm sure it's a hard job in it's own right, juggling gangster-money and infatuated/sometimes insane women. I hear it's really mentally exhausting and people can get fucked up.

It's a very very small percentage of women who don't experience that, and that's because they are already wealthy and privileged enough. This guy has no one controlling his income or actions, and he just benefits from those (rich) girls's insecurities.. So yeah, in both these situations, the women are still the ones who get cheated. It's not even about feminism, it's about reality and sociological/psychological/historical facts.

The Japanese culture is different from the West. They judge less on physical attractiveness, especially when it comes to men. This guy is desired by women not because of his appearance but because of the way he makes them feel. It took me many years and several relationships to understand this but I have come to the conclusion that there are 4 universal rules to follow if you want to have a meaningful relationship with a woman: 1. Always show respect. 2. Treat them as if they are the only woman in the world. 3. Never lie. 4. Make them laugh.
@stockloc
@stockloc 6 жыл бұрын
Eurotrash4367 1. Make them laugh 2. Make them feel safe and respected. 3. Don't go all out for her 100% of the time. Maybe 15% of the time spoil her a bit. Ive been with 11 women now. Trust me on this.
@JuanAestheticsUAE
@JuanAestheticsUAE 6 жыл бұрын
You might be correct on your enumeration of YOUR universal rule as it applies on YOUR personal experience. But, based on physical appearance, you might have been mistaken to judge that that guy is not physically attractive to those women. Each culture has its own beauty standards. What does not look good to you may be attractive to others.

"This guy is desired not because of his appearance but because of the way he makes them feel" That's the key to ALL relationships. Friendships, business relationships, romantic relationships. People remember not what you say, but the way you made them feel. If you make them feel value,d or relaxed, or happy they remember that - and are drawn to the person, whether in business or love. If you make them feel paranoid, anxious, like they are just waiting for someone else... they will turn away.

People see this glamorous lifestyle and think, “Wow, I want to do this.” But you have no idea about the darkness behind this industry. It’s bigger than what you or I could imagine The cornerstone begins at injuring yourself - Loneliness, drinking to the point of self harm, ultimately damaging your liver, throwing up blood, and leading a life where you start blurring the lines between lies and the truth. Then it takes a dark turn to the underground Yakuza activities - Debt, Prostitution, drugs, human trafficking, being sold as sex slaves, violence. There’s nothing glamorous in this lifestyle; In the beginning the parties may seem fun but, after that, you’ll be sick of the same routine of telling lies to yourself and others.

meow23 You're missing the whole point of my and that dudes comment. Nobody is hating on anyone, and most certainly no one is being racist. Your comment is rather ignorant pointing to my name as if it were some sort of barrier preventing people from living on the US, The USA is multicultural and it has Latin American, Asian, African and European people in it. We are discussing immigration here and given that you can't possibly connect the dots, I'll do it for you. I do live on the US. Let me tell you the relationships are going to hell here on the west. The US will most certainly be in a bigger predicament without immigrants than Japan is. Ever heard of MGTOW?, Well it's happening all over the planet. The US is lucky it isn't a island otherwise it would have sunk a long time ago. The US child birth is heavily declining and it's only support is the immigrants, How is anything wrong on those points?. American Male prostitutes do exist but as more and more women are ending up single anyone can predict that the same path Japan has taken, The US is just a couple of steps behind. New reports say that 70% of men living on the US from any race are in fact single from the ages of 20 - 34. Tell me where does this point?. Google the following: Bachelor Nation!

I desperately wanted to go to one when I was younger, but I've completely changed my mind over the past few years. Why should I pay someone to use me for my money? Why should I pay someone to spend time with me? Any feelings they have towards you are empty. You're just a source of their income, no more no less. Though I can understand why they're popular. Rich girls are good at making money but not good at love. Unfortunately their 'princes' will only ever love their wallets.

I agree with Maria it isn't all about the money. Many of the women find it therapeutic after a day of work to have someone fuss over them without the worry of what the other person thinks, they get to relax and have fun. Some women actually choose not to have a boyfriend as they are very job orientated and instead use the host bars just for the social side of having someone ask "how is your day" without them having to worry about a significant others day. Its all about how each individual treats it.

RawCarrot Apparently a lot of women don't have time or don't want the attachment of a boyfriend but miss the social side so this kinda fills the gap without commitment - I've been looking into it quite a lot as I find it fascinating I will admit there are some really bad sides to some like some owned by yakuza tend to let girls rack up debts and to pay off the debts they get the girls to work for them (you can guess how) - What I find strange and you would too is the people who almost become reliant on the hosts who lliterally spend all their money on a host just because they want to marry that host despite not realising that the host is playing a "character" Some thing that bothered me about the women who want to marry the hosts and is pretty much what bothered you is that they genuinely convince themselves and some of the hosts actively know what they are doing, admitting to lying about being interested in a girl who is not their type. I think you have to look at it like its just fun entertainment and a place to get attention from guys (without sex being on the table) and so long as the person going is aware that it is not a real relationship and lives within their own means I see no harm - What put you off? Was it the realization that it isn't as personal and the men are just working?

There aren't many other people that can understand the lifestyle, so it makes sense that host women often seek companionship with those in the same industry. Also, they get super fuckin wasted a lot of times because the women they're with just keep on and keep on buying them drinks, and it's rude to just refuse so they have to keep drinking. Some of them don't like smoking but they have to keep doing it because it's "cool" or whatever, so they're stuck lingering in their own smoke stench the rest of the night and that putrid taste in their mouth. It seems like a glamorous lifestyle, but it can be very lonely. There are actually lots of books and documentaries about this lifestyle. It's hardly a "new" trend as the beginning of the video states. That said, the video kind of ends on a downer note doesn't it? "A lot of the customers end up in sex shops under the control of a loan shark. Sex trafficking, can't be proven. Yeah.... Japanese hosts rule!"

@lisar3777

jalene150 what's the difference between a "gold digger" relationship and a "sugar relationship"? I'm Japanese, so, I don't always understand subtle differences. I thought they were the same.
@jalene150
@jalene150 6 жыл бұрын
Lisa R Mainly the way I see it, they are similar. The difference being that a gold digger doesn’t necessarily care about their partner. They often time come into “issues” that can easily be resolved with money that their partner has. They usually is only in it for the money. But with a sugar baby, they actually care about the relationship but in a different way from a regular one. They still love to be spoiled and get cash, but at the end of the day they actually care about their sugar daddy and will listen and be there for them if they need someone to lean on. They are also more transparent and don’t try to hide stuff like a gold digger would. The good ones also have values and will stick to them no matter the amount of money they receive. Obviously, there are exceptions and not everyone follows this trend, but this is just from my observations. From my studies of Japanese culture, I believe that a gold digger would be very similar to a Enjo date. The girls typically is in it for the money to better their lives. It’s easy, quick, and discreet. I do find it kind of creepy when they are in high school or below, but unfortunately it is what it is.
@lisar3777
@lisar3777 6 жыл бұрын
jalene150 I've been accused of being a gold digger my whole adult life because of who I married. We get accused of not caring about our partners and only caring about money. Most of the time that is just a false accusation hurled by jealous gossipers. There is no scientific basis of truth to that It's scientifically impossible to not care about our long term partners. Especially after the babies are born and time has lapsed. Love grows over time. It's not the poor and middle class that has the lowest divorce rates. It's the upper class. In most modern countries. As for "sugar relationships"? As long as they are happy. I guess that's all that matters.

+MrThemorningsun - interesting to attack broad stereotypes with broad stereotypes, interesting choice... Though i am white and enjoy reading history books from every country i can, try to get translated ones that depict it from their point of view as i find how history is more fluid than we think in terms of cultural perception, every country has propaganda in theirs related especially to in the case of wars if they won or lost the war, to the victor goes the spoils and how the war will be told. Also interested in media from all around the world, and trying to understand cultural differences that cause wide divides between humans psychologically and sociologically. Also finding the things that may seem different but are really more of just human traits. So although i am just one it is enough to refute your own broad brushed stereotype, just as I am sure a woman who has dated Asian men could destroy what i saw only one person post. Calling out these things are fine as long as you are not a hypocrite and meet ignorance with ignorance.

The main reason why this guy is so popular as a host is not because of his social skills. Maybe it has a bit to do with it, because he needs to pull off being flirty while faking the whole suave, mysterious guy that has a heart persona that will treat the girl they are with like a princess ordeal. Which most of the hosts tries to emulate in order to build up their ranks anyways. I personally think it's mainly has to do with the fact that despite looking like he is in his late 30's or 40's and not looking all that attractive to a lot of people on here. Is the simple fact that he slightly looks like Takuya Kimura who is the "It" celeb guy in Japan, even today. The standards when it comes to beauty and being handsome is different in Asian countries compared to the states. Takuya Kimura is equivalent to Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp of Japan and Japanese and even some Korean girls still find him super attractive. However the guy is married, so their second option would be someone that looks slightly similar to Takuya Kimura. If there was no Takuya Kimura, I doubt this guy would have reached the popularity level he is in now. So he should thank Takuya Kimura and his star power in Japan.

The creator/editor is uber talented. I have not watched this video in years but found it and it was just as interesting as when it was shot. I am a female and consider myself something of a social anthropologist which is why this is interesting to me.

The daughters of rich families pretty much blow it all on alcohol at their host clubs, and the hosts get the money off that.

only rich women n girl from rich family…but sometimes ordinary girl spent her saving just to have fun…they so idiots…they spent the money that they work hard to keep it just to buy love for one night… many unmarriage women in japan…they don't thinks about their future…they live with parents…even they had job n salary…when they stay with parents…they doesn't have to spent money on daily basic life…electrical,water,rent,food…all on parents…they don't give money to their parents…in fact many japanese parents still support their children even they already had a job…

Yeah it's not a safe industry. A lot of people are saying, "Wow, he's working the dream job!" glossing over how he said that organized crime is involved in these clubs. It's much more dangerous than just talking with girls and getting paid.

I guess you can learn from the way he flirts. He's not as handsome as the younger host, but he knows exactly what to say and what to do. Everyone can "learn" these things right?

Each country has their own standard of beauty/handsome and that's what it is and I understand. But paying money for companionship, well that's show how lazy people are. It takes efforts and time and energy to go out, put yourself out there in order to find your better half.. I rather use the money to whip my shit then give money to these people, cause they only care about how deep your pocket is and not who you are...
