I’m a total softie where it comes to animals so I can imagine how you feel, even though your cattle aren’t pets but part of the food chain, it doesn’t make it any easier when an otherwise perfect animal has to be destroyed before its time. 🇬🇧

Unfortunate we lose our best ones, Take it from me losing any of my Horses has been a heart break that does not go away easily. Being a man of 65, I still cry over my Jackie. She was with me for 25 of her 29 years. So I know your feelings. Grieve for as long as you want, There is no time limit on it, Remember the good things about Big Red. Karen I feel your pain I farm a small herd of pure bred charolais and any loss is a huge one. I had a lovely maiden heifer due to calve in May, 2months before this she lost her calf and the following morning she was dead for seemingly no reason ,vet couldn't explain it. I felt exactly how you felt, but you just carry on.

OMG Karen i can see the sadness in your eyes even before you had the negative results and my heart goes out to you but we as Humans do become attached to them in there own ways they winsus over and alwayd have fond memeories of this Beauriful Girl. We accept it when thngs go right as then it is all plain sailing but when things go wrong it does hurt the heart i know as a youngster i would cry many times when we lost one i was close to. You dont blame yourself you are a very hard working young Women and there is only so much yuoucan do when it comes to nature. Time will pass and memories may fade but the thoghts will always remain. The new 335 is a beast when you stand along side of it and great to see how you have adapted to it. Aussie Bob.

So sorry to hear that bad news,as you said not about money sometimes but maybe as a memory to her buy something to remember her by.Slow job to replace her in the herd replacing your breeding stock is it 2 or 3 animals short now herd size I guess that is governed by how much fodder the farm can produce and the the cow shed (me hoping one day you have plans for an extension)but you are doing a fine job on improving your grassland to increase stock ratio.Hope the weather gives you a break for silage making.

Listen girl always remember it could be worse! My grandmother had two cows and one died she went to her mother in-law in a fierce state and the old lady said that they had a cow once and she died and they lived! Sorta took the wind out of granny’s sails but she repeated that story every time we were upset about a loss and you know what it did focus our thoughts on what really matters anyway you could buy a cow with a good calf at foot for what you will get for the cow in the factory.

I know how you are feeling I lost the best hiefer I ever milked, she milked and milked and was a great looking animal lovely udder could not wait for.her to calve for the second time but found her dead one morning with the calf half out, must have been a heart attack.I've never had a better hiefer and that was over 30 years ago never forgot her can still picture her in my mind.
