I think the version of Dream Warriors we got should still be the third film in the series. But I would love to see Wes Craven’s script turned into a modern Nightmare film for 2019 or 2020. If they rewrite some parts to change a few of the characters and made it fit in the present day, it could be a really great film that would help revive the series. Plus if Robert Englund is actually down to do one more movie, this would be the one for him.

I'm loving these script reviews! Dude, I'm a professional artist. I could so easily draw out a comic version of these, or better yet, a type of animatic or motion comic, with some sound on top. Same for Halloween Returns. It would just be a huge project, so maybe just a scene or so :p There is a trend going in the comics business to draw out discarded scripts. Dark Horse is doing an original Alien 3 script right now.

Hi guys - good review! Wes Craven is my favorite horror director and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) & New Nightmare (1994) are my favorite of his films. So, Wes Craven knew how to write a Freddy script and make a Freddy film better than anyone else. I read the Dream Warriors script (Craven & Wagner) online, on an ANOES website. I also read some comments on Freddy forums and discovered that Craven's original idea for ANOES 3 was what became New Nightmare but New Line Cinema rejected that so Craven came up with something else ... love how Craven's second choice script still rocks! XD Although I like some aspects of the script I prefer Dream Warriors the movie. I have similar issues with the movie that Mike does - the first half is an excellent all-out horror film; the last half is a dark fantasy that is cheesy in places. My fav films of the Freddy franchise are the original 1984 film and New Nightmare. Wes Craven was great. RIP Wes Craven.

Great video! Nightmare is probably my favorite of the big three and this script would have been amazing to see. I think it could have also helped the future installments from going “out there” so quick anyway. Wes Craven was an amazing film maker and it’s just a shame that he’s no longer around to revitalize the franchise.

I’m sure most Elm St fans can answer this but I’m having a huge memory blank. I think the snake Glove talked about earlier in this video’s recap of the script. I don’t believe they ever used that in any of the films. However it was one of the stage bosses in the NES game. Let me know if I’m incorrect in any way. But I wasn’t including where his two arms stretch a bit as he approaches walking down the alley.

The MPAA would never had let most of these deaths stand even if New Line would have had the budget to make them. It would be nice to see them include some of these scenes in a new one as things have changed and they let a lot more go now, and even if they didn't there is more opportunity to stream or release an unrated version. They changed Kirstin's name to Kristen so late in the process that sometimes you hear characters still pronouncing it Kirstin in some scenes in the finished version.

Fun fact: Taryn's death in the movie was cut short. Her head was supposed to explode before Freddy delivers the "what a rush" line, but the effect didn't look good so they did the fade to white instead.

Although it did have a few things that were questionable, other than that I would take this over the final film any day. Maybe when they do another elm street film they can take the elements that they didn't use in this script.

They should actually use this script for the reboot. It's SO FUCKING great and a damn shame this didn't hit the movie screens, but back in 86/87, this would've probably been too intense for movie goers. I do have a feeling that Wes Craven wrote the script as a fuck you to Bob Shaye. Like a "Try and make this movie" move.

You guys are great. I'm here for every new upload. Could you guys possibly review the 2017 cancelled Friday the 13th movie? It features Jason's dad Elias...who I feel like could be Jason's Loomis EDIT: I know he is not used that way in the script but I think that that Elias Voorhes beings Jason's Van Helsing would add that missing nemesis feeling in the films. Plus it fits with Jason being a mama's boy, so daddy is like "Fuck you kid your grounded 90% of the time"

I think it would be well done as an anime. I think the ending of the script was weird but I liked Niel better in the flick. I like the Father character's development in the script as opposed to the movie but I would love to see the hybrid of Nancy here and in the movie because she was a guide herself The deaths are amazing and Kincaid's I think would've been great for Tara considering her track marks...the dialogue for Kincaid's death was just Part 2ish lol

The original script is darker, yet in some ways even hokier. It's a mixed bag. BTW, I love the idea of Nightmare 3 more than the execution, but it's still the most rewatchable entry - largely due to having the best batch of characters.

As great as this script is, I like the official 3rd film we got more. I like the balance it strikes between dark and comedic, especially in how Freddy can be terrifying and entertaining. Plus, I just like the characters. In fact, I ignore all the following films except for Freddy vs Jason, so that the surviving characters have a happier ending in my mind. Although, the fact the studio passed on this script is a representation of how the times had changed by the mid to late 80s. They weren't so keen on doing very dark films anymore.
