Alice (the protagonist) is what make this film so good. At the beginning of the film, she's such an introvert, she's not confident and she hates the reality that she lives in. She can't even look at herself in the mirror. That's why she constantly find herself daydreaming. As her friends die one by one, she realises that she has to face reality in order to survive, that's what that sequence with her brother at his funeral is all about: she finally quit daydreaming. I think it's great to see her growth in this film and I loved every one of those scenes of her taking the photos off the mirror, because that shows that she's finally accepting herself.

For instances certain things in the dream realm itself can afford to be non realistic and trippy but when it comes to the story of the movie itself you still need a cohesive running story for why things are happening in the movie. Example if you go to surreal without interesting story to back it up it starts to feel like chaos and crazy for the sake of crazy. It all depends on how its done scenes like the dead brother coming out of the coffin in Dream Master does work because it feels real in the context of a dream world while scenes like the dog pissing fire just feel silly fun yes but silly cause it feels like being crazy for the sake of crazy.

I agree, Rick’s death was easily one of the lamest in the entire franchise. And that wasn’t even what his death was originally planned to be! According to the _Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy_ documentary, apparently the elevator he was in was originally going to crumble apart, and he was basically going to fall into the abyss, but they had literally used up the whole budget at that point, so they had to come up with something else.

Parts 1 & 3 will always be my favorite of the series…BUT!! part 4 will always be close to my heart because My mother showed up to my school early one day and told the front office my grandma was in the hospital and I need to go home early…I was soooo devastated thinking about my grandma in trouble…and when I got into my mother’s car she said “please don’t worry about grandma and threw a giant bag from Spencers at me…opening it up to reveal a freddy mask/hat and glove with tickets to the opening of Nightmare 4 in the glove!!!!! Greatest day in my childhood for sure!!!

The abrupt deaths of the surviving "Dream Warriors" never bothered me a ton because Fred could have killed them that quickly in the previous film. He'd been toying with them for weeks in that story...it's not like they were all kinds of clever and resourceful lol.

An additional annoyance is how they don't show how Debbie died in the real world, like they do for a lot of the kills in the series (although not all). I think it's safe to assume she was crushed by her weights, but why not show it (probably looked bad?). Same with Dream Warriors.. real world explanation for Will or Taryn?

Even starting with 3, it's implied that Freddy can control what damage he inflicts actually shows in the real world. Phillip got his wrists and legs slit and his tendons yanked out to act as puppet strings, but he looked completely normal in the real world. With Phillip, Freddy definitely knew about the situation the kids were in, so he most likely wanted to hide evidence of supernatural happenings to let the adults think the kids were just offing themselves. With Debbie, odds are she didn't turn into a cockroach in the real world, but she was probably crushed by a weight or just stopped living.
