From all of the theory videos I’ve seen, I can only deduce that child’s was in fact a thing, but did not have the moves to take Mac, same with Mac, and that all of the acts, small details and the thing in its entirety, is a representation of a chess game, two high intelligence players being Mac and the thing, both make smart moves and sacrifices to gain advantage, which both take away, if two evenly matched players will feel paranoia because of the tension, making one wrong move could mean checkmate, could also mean the thing itself felt paranoia too since it actually feels (example, palmer things final amusement to being caught) but it ends in a stalemate, the final fight, Mac (the king) taking on Blair-thing (queen) which also takes his detonator (queen) but allows Mac king to take queen Blair, leaving child’s (king) and Mac (king) which also could have an explanation for macs last line “why don’t we just wait here and see what happens” which is a stalemate between two kings who can’t do anything anymore, there is a deeper more in depth explanation to the things game of chess with Mac but too long for me to explain, also shows the things sign of respect for Mac, two chess players giving each other respect for keeping each other on their toes for so long just to end up like this

I really feel like it would've been so much more interesting if the big bad wasn't Maxine's dad, even if she thinks it will be, but Lorraine's dad instead! Imagine he got his hands on the tape from X and blamed her "corruption" and death on Maxine. There's even a guy in the protest crowd with a "Satan killed my daughter" sign and a shirt that kind of looks like Jenna Ortega's face. Really could've tied it together.

I understand the main idea behind the trap Gabriella was in, but having cancer now is actually not worst case scenario. That looks like it's intended to be the kind of external beam radiotherapy machine used to target and treat brain cancers, which usually target narrow beams of photons into the tissue. The issue is that they tend to leave little radiation trails and don't stop at the tumor, which can in some cases cause issues. However in normal medical use, they're designed to be used in fractions-of-a-second long bursts, similar to how long it takes to take an x-ray (which also use photons, but in a much lower dose), not extended like this. For reference, diagnostic x-rays are around 20-150 kiloelectronvolts, and Megavoltage x-rays, which are the most common used for cancer treatment, are 1-25 megaelectronvolts, though in clinical use they rarely exceed 15MeV. A KeV is 1,000 electronvolts, and a MeV is 1,000,000 electronvolts. Using the information that 1 chest x-ray is 0.02 millisieverts of radiation, a dose from one of these machines for the same duration would be 20 mSv (I'm being very simple with math). anything over 50 mSv, which we can likely safely assume would be administered to Gabriella, has an at least 50% chance of death within 30 days. Worst case scenario, she dies anyways.
