As a fellow Canadian sailor I can say that sailing in my area (where this couple started out) is amazing in summer but very challenging in winter. As a former resort chef on the west coast I was a live aboard sailor and chef at several resorts in our sailing grounds. At some point this couple showed up on a park dock I was poaching at one fall/winter season as I was 'between jobs' . I had the pleasure to meet this couple although they likely don't remember it. lol. Plumper cove keats island is still a great place to hang out. This would have been 2011. Likely before they purchased the boat they are on now. I am happy to see just how far they have traveled. As I watch this today I keep my eye on the local boat market for my 4rth sailboat and wonder if I may just sell the condo and go all in again. :D Great work out there be safe. The Gulf Islands await your return.

The drama section was a lot of fun. As for the rolling horizon footage, keep it coming!! I only get sea sick if something affects my inner ear. Dan has switched to night owl references for day/night. Yes, I appreciated the scene, but I hadn't put the thought in about "how did they manage THAT?" Jan Mayen is a frontier and you are very lucky to have reached it on that boat. Good planing and the weather on your side made it possible. The footage approaching the island reminded me when in 2007 I was able to visit this remote place on our way back to Norway, after visiting Greenland on an expedition vessel. Jan Mayen is also linked to the Austrian Research History (1882/83) and a painting depicting the island from an artist, that accompanied our travels, is hanging in my office as I write. I have visited many remote places of our home planet - Jan Mayen left one of the deepest mystical impressions. I am now retired and operate my trawler yacht on the West Coast of Canada. You made it! YAY!! Love sailing with you both. You give me something wonderful to look forward to weekly. Wishing you a wonderful experience this week. Stay safe and warm. Blessings your way.♥

Thank you for bringing the story as it is. Your realistic view, despite the algorithms (in us) favour the opposite, is what makes me believe “not buying a couch” is the way to go. In the end, this crossing shows your craftsmanship and will more empowering than watching somebody wrecking their boat…. Job well done both, loved every minute!

That Island looks massive. There were some pretty nice shots in this step. I really like the stabilized Camera. I didn't thought that the boat would rock that big.

Yeah it's very had to convey just home must a monohull moves at sea with a regular camera. The horizon levelling helps, but you still can't feel the G force.

In German, there's an untranslatable word called "Fernweh" (literally hurting to get away, out into the world. Fern = far and weh = hurt). I experienced "Fernweh" all my life. You guys do a fantastic job to cure me for at least the time I watch your wonderful clips (everybody does the Carribbean and Bermudas, which gets boring very quickly). It's a poetic kind of magic and feels almost like an own genuin experience. In my professional past, I've hired architects to do a lot of crazy, self-exploiting jobs in the entertainment business at which they always excelled with new and genuinely original approaches. Apart from many things, that make you unique as a couple, you're also great architects in the sense of charting a new visual layout of the world like no one has seen before...

Thank you for how you tell your story, hones. Who loves sailing at sea understands you. It is even better for people who follow you and never sailed but are interested. There is sometimes enough drama anyway. Thanks again.

Fantastic. Breathtaking. Inspiring. Profound. I'm running out of appropriate superlatives. With that, I will add speechless.

Kika, how about installing two car reversing cameras to act as lookout for when you are below and on watch and need to watch other boat traffic, you could pair it to your laptop and get an alert when they see something, available cheap @ Amazon,an easy tech solution? I hope this helps much love to you both ❤️👍🇬🇧

I think they have radar and/or radar detector (and obviously a radar reflector). Combined with the plotter and AIS display, that gives pretty good situational awareness. They look outside every 5-10 minutes, too, IIRC. Whales and containers are the only things those devices would miss, but they would be rare in the Greenland Sea. "Uma" is minimally but beautifully set up.

Our birth latitude is a magnet. The midnight sun is beautiful but it can’t hold you. We are called home. Thanks for the ride.

"Keeping it real" instead of faking up a story is why people watch. Please don't change!

Agreed. There are other channels (the main one I can think of is the justBS norwegian guy ) who overly produces everything, and would make going to the grocery store this overly dramatic scary adventure. I didn’t notice it until I watched Uma sail in the same winds and showed it like it really is! Really Glad they are pointing out the editing aspect to light and calling out the BS.

One of those videos to put on loop mode and big screen and low sound and “chill”!
