You can, you just can't be bias. Refereeing at the highest levels is cut throat make mistakes in big leagues, get gone. Especially in tournaments. I swear there's a very successful Referee in the premier thats a man U fan. As a general rule of thumb tho referees that have teams aren't usually selected to officiate those games but some are and they just do their job at the end of the day

The 4th official replaced the liner and a fan took up the role of 4th official... someone who does so little they aren't even used at some levels of football and whose most important role is holding up the board for substitutions and time added on.
