Glazing is a very effective technique for creating subtle changes and shifts in color or color temperature. To create a glaze, simply add a little bit of paint to your medium so it's transparent. In this video, I'll show you how I'm making an adjustment to an area that's jumping out a bit too much.

Please take my comment as a compliment which is meant to be. (Your work reminds me of Darwin weinberg's work ) which was absolutely breathtaking with a smooth effect that we loved. I thought I heard you mention weinberg's name in one of your videos. I would think you're familiar with his work since you're from Texas❤ no more that I know about his success, it is my opinion t h a t t he did not get the recognition in the art world that he deserved😢... I certainly hope that your art will get the recognition it's so deserves!... ( you make the South proud in you're beautiful artwork)..❤❤❤❤❤ congratulations again. Which is well-deserved 😇... keep them coming! 😍

I like how you do a punch list at the end. Your painting is beautiful and I like the color you used for knocking the path back.

Really amazing detailed work, and not only technically beautifully done, but really conveys the emotion of the peaceful nature, which is very skillfully coming from your unique perspective, your personal storytelling, via visual effects. Masterfully executed, such a beauty to behold ❤

Hi Layne, yes, now the path looks "right" in the shade. Beautiful picture, I love the clusters of cacti, it stings just looking at them🙂 they look so natural. Thanks a lot for the explanations❤

Oh my goodness- so many times I’d try to watch your videos- however the very small vertical picture showing and camera so far from canvas- along with the camera panning to extreme angles couldn’t see anything- your works are absolutely beautiful- This videography is much better- thanks

Thanks, it's a newer video. Some of the older ones weren't originally filmed for KZbin. And of course, Shorts are only vertical.

I love your work. I’v just recently found you. I am new to oils. Question, I TRYING to paint a dog. Is it true if I use more than one medium (liquin, linseed oil and NEO-Megilp) in a painting that it may crack? Thank you, Patti
@LayneJohnsonStudio
@LayneJohnsonStudio 15 күн бұрын
Thanks Patti - it's more important that you follow fat-over-lean principles. And understand what each of these mediums do, and if you even need them all. Be cautious putting something that's fast drying over top of something slow drying. (I rarely use linseed oil, which is very slow drying,)

What medium do you use to thin your paint?
@LayneJohnsonStudio
@LayneJohnsonStudio 28 күн бұрын
I use Liquin - but it doesn't take much. For the glaze it's more Liquin with a little bit of paint. But for regular painting, just a little Liquin.

But what about "fat over lean"? This might look good at first but iols takes months to dry under
@LayneJohnsonStudio
@LayneJohnsonStudio 27 күн бұрын
Yes, this _is_ fat over lean. It's the very top layer. All of the underlying thin layers were "leaner" and already dry. If I painted directly, with thick layers of paint and no drying medium (like Liquin), then yes, the layers would take longer to dry. The real objective is to have more flexible layers above less flexible layers. So always glaze using a medium (which is flexible), not solvent (which isn't). 👍
