one of the great things about bladee's discography besides the music itself is how apparent it is to see him growing as a person. from the depths of depression and drug use to slowly finding what he believes in and a love for life.

For some context behind the silencer shots in NOTHINGG, those are a sample from a video game called Counter-Strike. The game's been referenced in his music before, and there are probably a lot of Bladee fans that've played the game at least once. I can see how it would come off as incongruent to someone who hasn't heard the sound before, but that gunshot sample is incredibly nostalgic for me (and I'm sure a good portion of Bladee's fanbase), which completely changes the feeling I got from its use in the song. It really transcends the sound of the gunshot and rather instills a feeling of adolescence and the freedom of responsibility of a 14-year-old playing video games with friends.

i think the gun sound on nothingg could either be a nod to bladees past works, being a sound clip from the game 'csgo' which he also used to sample in his earlier work alot but also the fact that its a silenced gun sound could be a metaphor for the old style being 'silenced' or hes moving away from that. this idea is also kinda shown in 'understatement' where he mentions ' it couldve been that other stuff but it just wasnt us' that 'other stuff' being his old style of music and this new style being more 'them'. i really hope that makes sense.

I’m 35 and discovered Bladee through Porter Robinson. I started with Crest and was immediately blown away. I’ve been a bedroom musician/producer and music fanatic for most of my life, and this shit has hit me hard in a way I can’t express. My background is a lot of punk, metal, and alternative genres but I’ve been finding more and more electronic music to my taste, and the absolute alien-ness of these artists is absolutely energizing. Anyway, I love these Drain Gang analysis videos. Keep killing it!

This video was touching I wish my parents took interest in my music taste… It makes me sad. They are very right wing. Love trump. Religious nuts. I was always as rejected as you can imagine when it came to my passions. I remember a longing to show them my music and hearing “turn that black crap off” “This is of the devil since it’s not of Christ” Talking about One Dance by Drake. It made me happy imagining a 13 year old me showing this to my parents and in an alternate universe they actually pay attention and cared.

Nurturing. I’ve been supporting and following Dg and sbe and allot of year0001 for a very long time. I’m 26. The first time I heard bladee was plastic boy with lean. Then gluee. I didn’t understand at first, I was sbe. I listened to Seshollowatersboys and was angry, and sad. but throughout my life I have grown, with him. With them. I see them as peers. I see them as friends, who love me and my friends. But Bladee. Bladee has nurtured me as you said. Been the one who I constantly go to when I need companionship. When I need to listen to something that makes me feel a sense of fulfillment, and growth. I’ve listened to it all. Everything. I have love for all music. Keef, yaeji, sophi, thug, wu, aphex, Japanese jazz, Santana, zeppelin, Metallica, Soulja boy, nudy, fucking Pitbull.. I love it all. But Bladee. I keep coming back. And when you said “nurture” I felt my chest swell, and a few tears spill from me. It’s hard to put it into words. I’m a grown man, with a good job, a home, a car and friends and family who love me. But still, I need d9. I yearn for emotional catharsis. I yearn for growth, and the opportunity to be vulnerable. And the Drain does that for me. I try to explain it, and it is so difficult to do so with people. But my friends. My close friends who I consider closer than blood, understand. And when it’s time to Drain.. we drain. I hope I will have this forever. I hope this side of me, will never disappear with the stress of life, and obligation. I have a purpose, and bladee and all of sbe, has helped me see that. It’s such a gift. Love to you, for this video. And I hope everyone’s dreams come true. Shoutout bladee Ecco leany Sherman white armor thaiboy gud everyone apart of year0001 you are loved.

I find it fascinating how well you picked up what I also believe to be the core of Bladee's art, the longing for connection and meaning, salvation and grace. I also love how you described his music as nurturing! That's exactly what his music is to me; a gentle comforting embrace, and I've heard a lot of other drainers express similar sentiments. I also find it interesting that you picked up the deeply mystic, spiritual and religious themes in his music. This is something I often see overlooked even by die hard fans. They kind of pick up on it, but I don't think they have the cultural vocabulary to understand some of the references that bladee uses; like Dantes beatrice which you highlighted. Thank you for this very well-thought out review. I hadn't really consciously recognized it, but you are right in my case. I want the soothing quality, the softness and reassurance that Bladee's music puts out. This probably says a lot about the conditions young people find themselves in today's digital and identity-fracturing world.

It's weird because they aren't weird, and don't understand weird. People are always going to be afraid of what they don't understand. It's the ones that can conquer that fear and confront it who become the greats of the world. One thing I've come to understand in my 25 years of life, is that you will never be able to force anyone into wanting to understand something. You can beat your head against the wall over and over again, you may be able to get them to understand why you like something, but you will never get them to actually put in the effort themselves to understand. That's the person's choice themselves, and unfortunately most people don't have the balls. Congratulations if you do, you're one of the very few. I've listened to bladee since I was 16 and I've never gotten anyone I know to enjoy their music except my little brother who happens to be a little weird just like me. Drain gang as a whole are my favorite artists in the world. And I listen to A LOT of music. And Honestly if you were to ask me: No I wouldn't say that it's plain and simply nurture. Maybe when I was younger, but it's actually the opposite, it has me face things I don't want to face. that is what people are afraid of. As someone's who done psychedelics and confronted my own fears multiple times, it is a therapeutic but also just an existential exploration to ultimately understand our terrifying yet beautiful existence. That is why I listen to them. And no I'm not recommending psychedlics. I'm just stating my personal experience.
