My dad always wanted me to become a nun. Every time someone would ask me as a child or young adult what I wanted to do, profession-wise, my dad would answer for me, "she's going to be a nun". I believe that it's a calling from God.

If my child became a cloistered religious, I think I would be heartbroken. Of course, there are much, much worse things that could happen as a parent. My heart would eventually mend, I think. I could handle my child as an uncloistered, service religious much more easily.

Mother has flat affect. Finally cracked a smile. Hope dtg made right decision . Not an easy life. They work well into their 80s or die which ever comes first and live near poverty level if not in poverty and it isn’t all fun. Believe me I know first hand! If they stay and I say if they stay for 25 years and decide to leave for what ever the reason they end up penniless and worse poverty than imagined. zero pension zero money and clothes on back and few possessions . Better hope for the education they generally receive to land employment and have family to help, many stay bc they see know way out! I worked first hand with religious who leave and are in a bad way!
