I have just now seen this and it brings back the grief I felt on January 27 when I learned, through Cheryl’s best friend, that she lost her battle. Cheryl was one of my dearest friends. She was such a supportive presence when I was going through the loss of a relationship, a loss that nearly broke me. You see, we were each other’s “first date”. My father and Cheryl’s father, Howard Frink, were best friends when they were growing up. Cheryl was born a week after me. When I was about two weeks old, maybe a few days younger, my parents took me to the Frink home and I “met” Cheryl for the first time. We saw each other from time to time during those early years. Then Cheryl transferred to my grade school/école and we saw each other every day through public school, high school and then regularly during the university years except when she spent a year in Grenoble. After her year in Grenoble (or maybe during a break) I went to her home and had a wondereul time with her, her parents and her sister Deb. The highlight of the evening was Cheryl sharing some Chartreuse that she had brought home. My family were teetotalers, so that was my very first taste of alcohol! Of course, I gave it the nickname of “Green Fire”! I later moved away, immigrating to Canada, and we were in contact far less frequently. We reconnected when I went through a horrible break-up and, as I said, she was an enormous help and support. When Cheryl was near retirement, I coordinated with Nila, here “BFF” and travelled to her home. I stayed with one of my sisters and arranged for Nila to alert me so that I could arrive at her door after her high school colleagues had arrived for a celebration with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. She didn’t know I was coming and when she opened the door the surprise, smile and tears on her face formed a permanent memory and to this day are a source of warmth and joy. Cheryl was a major factor in my *finally* travelling to Paris. My son had moved to Paris the year before I travelled, working at École Normale Supérieur on a post-doctoral fellowship. Cheryl and I had had THE BEST French teacher during grade school, Madame Anne Forman who was Parisienne who had married an American GI. We both had among the best, if not THE best accents in our class. By 2016 my grammar and vocabulary had deteriorated, but whenever I conversed in French at an café, museum or with anyone else, no one replied in English. That made me feel so good and I fell in love with Paris and France and am so grateful to both Cheryl and Madame Foreman for their influence, love and support. I don’t want this to sound like it’s about *me* … I just want to try and convey how important Cheryl was to me. I don’t hang on to regrets, though looking back I really should have at least tried to date her in high school. We talked about this and why I didn’t. Let’s just say Cheryl let me know any request would not have been in vain! The day of Cheryl’s death and then, especially during her funeral, I broke down completely. I rarely do that, not even when my parents died. Cheryl and I had hoped to one day be in Paris at the same time - not necessarily travelling together, but just *there* and we could enjoy some times together and me able to see Paris through her eyes and her beautiful, loving heart. Cheryl, I will miss you forever. What ever we may have missed with each other, thank you for who you were and what you gave so many others. Je t’aime, ma chère. Cheryl was a remarkable person.

What a lovely and heartfelt tribute to Cheryl. I did not know her but she sounded like a wonderful a brave lady. As I get older, I appreciate every day whatever happens and whatever the weather. I love Paris in winter, the muted colours and bare trees.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to a phenomenal woman! Mme. Matzker was my high school French teacher for 4 years and because of her love and passion for all things FRENCH, I now share that love of the language and culture with my students. I am bringing students in June for a tour and will have Cheryl with me in spirit! ❤

So Very, Very Sorry about Cheryl. I wish I had gotten to meet her. I am also in the Saint Louis, Missouri area. I am being treated at the Siteman Cancer Center, part of the Barnes Jewish Hospital. I have stage 4, esophageal cancer; incurable. Hoping that after several chemo and radiation treatments, I can make it for the Paris Marathon on April 2, to at least Walk most of it.

Beautiful sentiment for your lovely friend Cheryl. I was a student in the first year she taught in 1973. I recall hearing the passion in her voice and sparkle in her eyes when she talked about her beloved city. She made learning a difficult language so much more pleasant. All of her students loved her! My condolences to you and to all who loved her. Your video view of Paris is very well done! You were not rambling at all. In fact, I wanted to hear more.

Thinking of mon amie, Cheryl. Soon our beloved St Louis Cardinals will be starting another season. One of Cheryl's favorite days. (opening day). It's hard for me to believe that this year you wont be there. That we can't be there together, or even just chatting with each other about how happy it makes us to see our team again. It's hard to believe that it's only been two months since you left us. It feels like forever. I miss you, friend.

I love this community even though I’m not as active as others I’ve been here since day 1. I love the connections that you’ve all made with Corey. I always say thanks to those that go and share photos. It especially helped a year ago December when I was in the hospital. It surely helped cheer me up. So cheers to you all and I’m hoping that Cheryl is at rest and peace especially after this Paris prayer for her. Kudos to you Corey.
