Who knows maybe I will give hanging a try. The other day I was camped on the Long Trail and I got up early to beat a big storm hail and all and woke up at 5 am and the man hanging in his hammock was already on the trail . I just pre-ordered the Haven XL. From the outside looking in: I would consider this a Bridge style Hammock with respect to the flat lay the hammock provided while loaded, achieved by the combination of the way the material is cut and the spreader bars. I think the closest comparable hammock was the Maverick which Derek Hansen review in 2014. The Haven seems to use the mattress to assist with the flat-lay, the Maverick used fiberglass “ribs” connected to a frame underneath the hammock. The tarp is pretty minimal for coverage, but I'm looking forward to trying this system in the winter to see how the tarp toggled down on the sides performs as a winter barrier/micro climate of sorts. Thanks for the great review Shug.

Another great video shug! I ordered one and it’s coming the day before thanksgiving. For what I’m looking for, it checks all the boxes. Like you, I might use an additional tarp but I am surprised you didn’t point out the extreme weather uses the existing tarp could be used for. Even if just used to block wind or cold from one ... or both sides. (Think sock) Weight is not a concern for me, so I’ll keep existing tarp attached in cool or cold weather and may even bring additional tarp for higher more airy tarp. Thanks for keeping us informed AND entertained shug!

Sorry to mention... your yard came out awesome. Great details and very impressive. All that hard work really paid off. It must feel good seeing that beautiful landscape every time you come home. Nice not have to cut it also. I'm sure your wife is appreciated of it also. What's your next project now you're officially retired?

The fact it pitches on the ground so easily and comes with a pad makes the weight OK with me for the occasional trip. I can tote it. Off in and hour or so to get it to the woods.....!

As I’m getting older, I’m less interested in weight and more in comfort. Agree about tarp, I want space. The tent configuration might be useful in Winter to keep heat in, wind out.

Look out Sasquatch !! Here he comes !! Interesting new set-up there Shug. What is it rated for (weight capacity)? Options are always a nice thing. It's been a horrible year. Here it is July and I haven't gone camping ONCE yet ! I hate when that happens !

I did a review on the Haven tent a few months ago. I felt it was a bit too narrow for me to be comfortable. I must have gotten one of the older tarps too, because it was leaking at the toggle points. Like you though, I really like the concept. Derek mentioned they were working on a wider model, and they were very good about their return policy. If they do come out with a wider model, I would be very interested. Although, I'm sure the weight and bulk will be too much for any long hikes.
@shugemery4 жыл бұрын
It is heavy but the ground pitch alternative is a positive for times you might need too. At least it is something different and Derek has stood by it very well. Must be very tough to bring out a new product. Hammockers seem to be very very picky so I try to keep an open mind.
@RichADio4 жыл бұрын
@@shugemery agreed. Thats why I'm looking forward to the wider model. I hope it doesn't take too long to get to market. I'd even be happy to beta test it for them. 😆

Now yer talkin... I think I could sleep in that. I'm a side sleeper most of the time. I'd love to go camping somewhere that is compatible with hammock camping but that requires lots of trees close together. Not a lot of that around here. Mostly sage brush and rocks.
@shugemery4 жыл бұрын
I just got back from 2 nights with it in BWCA hiking. Slept 12 hours first night and 10 the next. Even side slept a little.
