Happy new year shug! I'm sure you've answered this 500 times but I couldn't see it in the 4.3 seconds looking lol. Why do you prefer to hang your head end lower then your feet ?? Thank you sir and great job on the bass playing, sounds Dandy.
@shugemery13 сағат бұрын
It is just a preferred way to hang. Puts me in my sweet spot and I don't have worry about my feet sliding out the end. Warbonnet hammocks always recommend feet high and it is in their instructions. Thanks on the bass stuff. I truly enjoy playing it. Brings me joy and always learning stuff. Foot High info: Blackbird, Blackbird XLC, Traveler hammock Setup: The following describes a detailed setup method that should result in maximum comfort (vs. simply hanging between 2 trees and getting inside, which works also.) Find 2 trees that are ideally 13-17′ apart. Hang the hammock so that “once occupied” the foot end is about 16″ higher than the head end, and by “end” I mean the end of the fabric, not the attachment point on the tree itself. Since the foot end needs to be significantly higher, the easiest way to achieve this is often to just position the hammock much closer to the foot tree AND attach the webbing to the foot tree at head height or above. Having the head end farther away from it’s tree means it will sink more when you get in and that is usually what you want. The BB/XLC/Traveler is designed to be laid in “off-center” so that your head is very close to the head end of the hammock while your feet are alot farther away from the foot end. This allows the fabric under your legs to spread out properly when laying on the diagonal. To do this you’ll want to lay so that your eyes are aprox. even with the farthest side tieout (BB or XLC) so that one tieout is even with your eyes and the other is chest level. Once you are laying in this correct spot you will then determine if you want the head/foot end higher or lower. Most people will want it setup so that when your eyes are even with the tieout that you are basically level/horizontal f

Ah yes, the GOAT has the goatee rockin! Hammocks, the numero uno thing erryone says is super comfy, we try, do it wrong and are scared to try ever again. Great idea with the intro vids! Trying something with tents now on my channel…will prob be a much shorter collection 😂 Does asbestos work just as well as a cheetah pelt? Tried to find the ‘hire Shug to come to my house and teach me all these tips’ option in your shop but said sold out. Guess I’ll have to settle for a sticker.

Hey Shug! Shrub here! Funny story: I was watching your video, and Mrs Shrub was listening but... lightly dozing.😴 Well, you were getting a little animated and Mrs Shrub woke a little bit and asked me "why is that guy saying he's The Hamburglar"? I said, "What guy? This isn't a McDonalds video." She said "But the guy in the video... he keeps saying he's a "Hamburglar". A little later it dawned on me...... Hammocker!! You're a hammocker🤣🤣🤣

10:00 Hey Shug! I was wondering if you still use and would still recommend the Tensa Trekking Treez, especially if one can only afford one? It seems like it would really help alleviate the whole ‘finding two perfect trees to hang’ problem. While I hike, I make it a point to actively look for a good and desirable place to hang a hammock but often find it difficult. By the way, glad you made it out of that storm in Grayson Highlands unscathed, that was wild!!!!

You are always funny and entertaining to watch! Donyou think you could hang the hammock directly on the tarp ridgeline with prusiks(with adequate cordage) and control the sag on the spot? Narrowing them to sit like a chair or widening for sleeping. Do you think prusiks would hold?
@shugemery2 күн бұрын
Never tried. That would need to be some story Tarp Ridgeline though. I know I like to be able to adjust my tarp separately.

I notice that you almost never use the Amok Draumr on your trips, but almost always use a classic hammock. Why? What do you experience as negative about Amok since 90% of your trips you don't choose Draumr?
@shugemery2 күн бұрын
I love the Amok but I do prefer and under quilt to a pad. I like to take out the Amok from time to time for fun. I use it in my backyard a lot more for just sitting in. But for me...underquilt over pad. Also I began in a gathered end hammock and it is just near to my heart.

First time in a hammock was the old nam fish net hammock on okinawa in 90 degree weather it was warm 24 hrs. Then in Missouri in 80 degree days it was cool. NowvI use avbridge hammock with an air mattress in 50 nights. It really isn't just being able to concentrate on one thing. It is knowing a lot of thing. LastvtimevI used a hammock 2 yrs ago rafting the john day river in or. There were only 2, yes 2, tree in the whole area of where we would Camp at night. So wasn't much choice in where to hang justvhow to hang. And 30 mph winds made ut interesting too.

On tree spacing: I know what I like but my last hang was suspended on a single tree rather than a pair. It was the lower limb of a leaning tree. The limb was plenty big and nearly parallel to the ground. I'll use that again next year. It had a unique springy-ness unlike a double tree hang. I prefer a little spring in my setup.

I get by with a closed cell pad, bag, and wool blanket over the top, in to the low 40's next to water-which is not cold it's just as cold as it has been on my few weekends to hang. A few times it's been too warm, or too windy at the beach. Hey-blew my mind how cool a a summer hang gets if you wet your hammock, or get in with wet clothes. SO much evaporative cooling and heat being sucked away it's great when the weather is right. If I ever get to go more, I'll need an underquilt for the Fall woods. Hope you recovered well from surgery. EARLY! All Secure!

Its very true that you need to enjoy the tinkering. Anyone I've brought out that isn't a tinkerer goes back to tent life. Id say there are over 20 decisions to be made every time you setup a hammock. Plus those you make before you leave the house makes for an custom setup that unique every time you use it but also somehow makes it feel like home.

I once hammock camped off my motorcycle in Glacier National Park. The evening started out comfortably, but the temps dropped down to freezing and it was super cold. Your information is a terrific starting point. Definitely helped me get a start. My experience is that it is a constantly evolving thing. Always fiddling and tweaking. The constant is that the best sleep is hammock nights. I do about 1/2 and 1/2 over a year’s trips and this has held year to year.
