That's actually a dead beat escapement, and ideally it shouldn't recoil. Perhaps some wear has occured over several decades and it now recoils slightly. Many companies started to use this dead beat escapement, including Japanese and Korean firms. The recoil won't harm it's operation any.

Very nice clock! I've also found one of these for sale with a similar design and an identical movement. It's sad that it no longer works...

Yeah, I agree. However, it is all my fault and it's just something I need to use as a learning experience unfortunately when it comes to repair.

I like that clock i got 2 clocks from 1870s one is water burry and other is a alarm/strike on it gingerbread the e Ingraham clock co and it won't tick at all but striking and alarm works and waterbury is fully working and its almost keeps time
