You should check out A Perfect Circle's cover of John Lennon's "Imagine". It shows how effective just a change of pace & tone can take a song that was full of hope for peace & make it a song of hopelessness, & the visual of the video adds to the feeling that hope is gone.

When I first listened to Three Libras, I repeated it again and again and again until I couldn't count anymore. It's one of those songs that sticks in your head but you don't get tired of listening or singing it, possibly because it's too emotional or the song is just sometimes too hard to sing. It's also one of those songs that you don't want it to end but the whole song is just perfectly arranged. This song is one of my all-time favourite songs. Very sad. Very melodic. Very hard to play or listen or sing sometimes.

you pretty much nailed the idea of what tool and a perfect circle are in terms of the emotion of the music. i've heard several times that it's more like a twin sibling or twin sister thre where one is violent, vindictive, uncaring, whereas the other is caring, nurturing, sympathetic.

The video takes the meaning a step further: Not only does this unrequited love hurt him as a man and make him feel like he lives in a bubble as he walks through life, but it takes him back to hurt he felt as a child being ignored as well ( triggered by the boy he sees in the hotel lobby) So he is singing from his adult broken heart and also the broken heart of his inner child ,who is still wounded from all those years ago( the womb scene) That's my take,anyway... I first went up and did a pretty good job on the 2nd try, that the room went silent with amazement. I saw APC back in 2004 in the UK. They were awesome. It's funny because their music is beautiful and deep, but on stage they are pretty funny. They would sing silly songs that they made up. Mer de Noms and Thirteenth Step are absolutely great albums.
