Her brain aneurysm happened when Maynard was 11 yrs old, which he refers to in the Tool song Jimmy. Then the 10,000 days she spent paralyzed before death. And yes, this song was clearly coming from an angry place, but several years later when he made the 10,000 Days album, he showed that he let go of a lot of that anger and focuses on the positive effects she’s had on his life, praises her strength, etc.

I should clarify. He let’s go of much of the anger towards her, but still has frustration with the religious communities as a whole.

This is my first time watching your KZbin channel. You got my attention with this song. I LOVE THIS SONG. His mom, Judith had suffered a cerebral aneurysm that left her in paralyzed in a wheelchair for 10,000 days before she inevitably died. He was born into a strong Southern Baptist family. She was strong in her faith; even though she was wheelchair bound, she was still faithful to her Lord and Savior.

She had a stroke when she was about 30 and lived aproximately 30 years or around 10,000 days. She was paralized to a degree her life consisted of little.

I know this song can be uncomfortable for some people to hear due to the lyrics . Once you understand where the song comes from and why he curses God it's a very personal look into his mental state after experiencing a very traumatic event in his life . The anger is not held back and its honest and the anger is very real . Weither its misplaced is irrelevant. It's real and beautiful in it's own way that he could be so vulnerable with expressing his feelings .

This song is about his mom. When she got sick he wanted to help but she told him that she was in gods hands. She became paralyzed passed shortly after. So he wrote this song to say that his mother was a saint but god made her judith and made her suffer

Agreed. Not sure but I wouldn't be suprised if he wrote these lyrics long before Wings for Marie. But if you listen to them (Judith and Wings) back to back, you get a fuller sense of his feelings. There's definitely anger and resentment there, but also, there's an appreciation, admiration, and even awe, on his part when thinking about HER faith, whether he shares the same beliefs or not.

"It's great to be Historians, but we do first reaction videos, and are married to each other" Haha That's why I'm subscribed to the channel, you two are nothing more then who you are, great people. The key to everything is Authenticity. Judith, MJKs mother had an Annieryism, was invalent for 10k days before her passing. The Tool song Jimmy is about moving from Ohio to Michigan with his dad after it happened (Jimmy is MJKs legal first name), Judith is about his mother's unwavering faith despite her grim overall outlook, finally Wings for Marie Part 1 and 2 by Tool is his goodbye to her. Performed during the 2006-2007 tour, MJK is on record saying he does have some regrets mourning so publicly, as a OGT fan, it's a safe bet that Wings will never be played live again, despite it being one of their most epic pieces of music to date. Most Tool fans it will make you cry every single time you listen to it. It's just one of the thousands of things that make them so incredibly special. Once you guys see the entire Tool Discography as a whole, it's really gonna make you appreciate them that much more. Opiate - Anger Undertow - Working through Anger Aenima - Pscyhedelic Prog aspect starts taking hold, the beginning of enlightenment, as the album ends with 3rd Eye. Lateralus - To me represents the process of a Kundalini Awakening 10000 Days - Using the Enlightenment achieved to view the world for what it is. New Album - Based on Descending as a preview, I'm guessing a possible album theme of our Souls journey leaving this Dimension.

My favorite APC song. Just amazing! Definitely could have been a Tool song. I hope they do a cover sometime! Too late now, but listening to this song without words for the first time vs. seeing the words will probably give very different reactions. Personally I didn't see the words for a long time and then we I saw them I completely understood Maynard's angst. You guys looked so bummed listening. If you didn't concentrate on the words you'd be diving into the amazing music, but the words have you quite stunned, and sad. His mother Judith Marie suffered from a paralyzing debility & was confined to a wheelchair for over 25 years, which is around 10,000 Days. You will find the next 2 songs Wings For Marie/10,000 Days to be quite different from Judith. Perhaps Progressive Rock in a nutshell. I believe Maynard's writing gave him a great release from the pain he felt towards his mother's fate, G*d rest her soul. Yes, Wings for Marie/10,000 Days should be listened to ASAP. #TOOL #WINGSFORMARIA #10000DAYS #ASAP

Wikipedia: Keenan's mother suffered a paralyzing cerebral aneurysm in 1976, when Maynard was 11 (the inspiration for creative works such as Tool's songs "jimmy" and "Wings for Marie" as well as A Perfect Circle's "Judith"). She was very religious. those lines man "its not like you killed someone....it's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side". There are some great vocal techniques tooK the beautiful mix in "he did it all for youuuuuuu" the distortion at the end. this can be hard to listen to - even blasphemous i suppose. this was him processing his mom's illness, 10,000 days (27 years roughly) of suffering, and passing. a catharsis if you will. I'm not religious....but i hope she got her wings.

To the dilettantes commenting otherwise, APC’s Orestes and Tool’s The Patient are not in any way, shape or form about Maynard’s mother. Maynard was angry because his mother was full of faith, she never wavered and never thought of anything but what was actually happening. Maynard's Mother was a big believer in Christ and when she got really sick and her church mocked her, he took this in a very hostile way. He was so angry to why her god would punish her when she was so loyal and so obedient. This song goes so much deeper than just words.

I LOVED THIS REACTION! For your consideration: This may be the HARDEST Hard Rock song of all time/ of all the genre. Official music video directed by David Fincher who also did Seven, Fight Club and Mindhunter which convey the same gritty, dark and morose disposition present throughout. Maynard once said that he uses his lyrics and songs as a tool for certain expressions and that the idea is to not keep screaming forever; hence, the guttural expressive signature familiar amongst those listening. The anger and resentment present in Judith is all too familiar with those of us who have loved and lost. Everyone take away what you will from this song (masterpiece) and use it as a means however you see fit. The song lies at such a far end of a dark spectrum that in contrariety lies an equivalent tragic beauty; 3 Libras. It is quite frankly the most beautiful song ever written in my opinion. I hope it finds you well. Can't wait for your reaction. PS: your wife is hot! ;)

@@Kel.N.RichReactions 3 Libras is the reaction I'm eagerly awaiting from you guys! It is my favorite song of ALL musical genres combined. Hi guys🙋🏽♂️ I don't think there's another song (imo) that divides fans of hard rock more than "Judith" by MJ and his band A Perfect Circle. In its purest form it's an awesome hard hitting in your face hard rock song but it becomes so much more than that when we hear the lyrics. I know some ppl that refuse to listen to it because they consider it blasphemy and at the complete other end of the spectrum there's ppl who listen to it inspite of it being blasphemous. Then there's me, a person who listens to it because it does what any great song does....it draws its listeners in by painting a picture of exactly what the composer of the song was/is going through at a specific point in time...in this case what Maynard was going through emotionally over a 25+ year period of watching his beloved Mom suffer the consequences of something she had absolutely no control over. I can't think of another song that generates such emotion when ppl hear it for the first time. Regards FB 🌴🌞🌴

You should check out “the outsider” by A Perfect Circle.

Please listen to more Perfect Circle, I could see your reactions because of the lyrics, hope you've looked up or researched the reason behind them, I was a little shocked too when I first heard it, but having realized what was going on behind the lyrics I understand more, he's grown older now as we all have, don't know if he's technically religious, but read he's become somewhat spiritual. Peace ✌
