A Perfect Circle's Billy Howerdel Talks New Solo Album, Depeche Mode, and More

A Perfect Circle’s Billy Howerdel recently released a new solo album, What Normal Was, and is currently in the midst of a headlining North American tour. The singer-guitarist caught up with Heavy Consequence via Zoom to discuss the new solo effort.
Howerdel previously unleashed an album in 2008 under the name Ashes Divide that was essentially a solo effort, but What Normal Was is the first LP released under his own name. As Howerdel told us in the video above, he debated whether making the new album an Ashes Divide release, but ultimately chose to go with his own name for this one.

This album has been on repeat since it came out. I absolutely love it in its entirety. Caught the Puscifer show in Rochester Hills and hearing these songs live, in the daylight, with no lights or screens was incredible! Such a talented musician with a sincere approach is wholly refreshing. Album of the year, imo.

Everything he writes is just wonderful and unique! Following him from the beginning with APC. My other idols are indeed Trent Rez and JC. Knowing that Jerry has been so encouraging and supportive with this album it's really exciting.

I have not been able to stop listening to "What Normal Was" for months . i can not help it. Depeche Mode is incredible Delta Machine and and Playing the Angel are my fave Depeche Mode albums. Songs of Faith and Devotion, too. That is the three albums i always have some of my rotations. I can't wait to hear more in the future from Billy until then I will study what he has given us.
