Actually Billy Howerdel( the guitarist ) executes many of the harmonies. He also happened to be Tool’s guitar tech when they made this album

Billy Howerdell never gets enough credit. Its always Maynard. I believe Howerdell wrote near enough the full album. His composition skills are amazing. Paz was an unbelievable bass player on this album too.

Just to add to that Billy plays most of the bass on the album, Paz only plays bass on one tune but she does do vocals and violin on several though.

Oh he gets it from the right people. The whole notable work of APC is clearly in it’s own full compositional articulation. It’s just awesome to get Maynards vocals and melody, which add a bite that is really his contribution.

The Hollow is still to this day, probably my favorite APC song. The only criticism is that the song is too damn short. To be fair, the song could be 6 hours long and it would still be too short for me. Perfection.

I feel you, bad shoulder myself...And In Spite of that pain, you had me right back to my "Drummer Spirit" (Lead Percussionist in High School in TX, currently enjoying smiles before work in North Myrtle Beach, SC)...the drums I. that song are so crisp, you also reminded me that I've been promising myself an electronic kit, I live in an apartment complex, can't practice drumming properly without noise. It's awesome you picked up on the "synth" during the verses. Billy loves using synth-effect pedals and guitar synths. Sober was my first song in the late 90s and have been a Tooligan ever since. Not a single song that doesn't give me goosebumps. These bands are the soundtrack of so many lives. So many breakthroughs for people. So cathartic. Thank you. Maynard gets under the skin with that voice. He's got an amazing instrument there! It's hard to believe it but it's been almost 22 years since I first heard this song and I still remember the exact moment. It was January and we were on a highway with extreme fog so we could only go about 20 miles per hour, I was getting over being extremely sick but my friend popped this in the cd player and I was absolutely blown away. I had heard tool and I was already a huge fan but this was something different. Something with a different type of emotion behind it. This song reminds me of my leap into adulthood with no plan, no desire for one, no worries. Funny thing is, I actually understand the song now and I didn't before.

"'Cause it's time to bring the fire down. Bridle all this indiscretion. Long enough to edify, and permanently fill this hollow" What a great song talking the hollowness people live with. Like this song is about a woman who feels hollow inside and tries to fill it with sex only for the relief to last a couple minutes. Same goes for people who use drugs.... they use them to try to feel good feelings even if artificial. But all you're doing is making the hollowness grow. I'd know, it's getting hungry.

Man, I'm so surprised you haven't gotten back into a Sleep Token decomposition. Talk about an absolutely amazing voice along with a plethora of musical arrangements that'll take you from one end to another. Please, my friend. You will be blown away. The new album is sure to give you chicken skin with every song.

It’s funny you mention Jimmy Page and Robert Plant because there’s a audio recording of an acoustic set floating around on KZbin that APC does that reminds me very much of the Jimmy Page and Robert Plant from the No Quarter album they came out when they play in Morocco. It’s stunning you don’t realize the Middle Eastern influence as much until you hear them play their songs acoustically… Maynard and Billy are the modern day Page and Plant
