You won't go back. - "Crisp Menu & Loading screens", self explanatory - "Pip-Boy 3000 retexture" - you'll be looking at the Pip-Boy a lot and this mod remasters it down to the finest detail. Good treatise on some solid MODs for Fallout 3. Your reasoning for so few is well thought out and communicated solidly. By and large I agree with your reasoning and, have, for the most part, played with those you spotlight herein. I also have a few of my own, personal favorites that I prefer - one of which might be considered a "cheat" to some degree. I still prefer using Vortex as a mod manager - and FOMM is Vortex's ancestral predecessor - with many of the same foundational elements in found in Vortex. To my knowledge Vortex prohibits manual load order adjustments - but, I digress. Great video. All the best!

When I first modded FO3, many years ago now, everyone had problems with hardware limitations and Fellout, as I understand it, removed the brown tint which ate up resources. Apart from considerably improving the look of the game it also speeded it up. I remember actually noticing the difference in gameplay, I was actually able to walk and run at reasonable speeds. The other thing is that after two centuries the dust would have been washed out of the atmosphere making the brown tint unrealistic anyway. Thanks for the video.

I've always felt FO3 would look good with a color mod that still keot that dirty, grimy feel of what the green tint does, but removing the tint so it doesn't feel like a filter. A method that makes it easier to remember the numbers at the end of each string. Well you won't have to remember if you do this... First highlight and copy the entire string ex: fLightLODDefaultStartFade=10240.0 Ok then go to the open ini file... Engage find. In the Find dialogue box paste the entire string you collected in the find box. Ex. fLightLODDefaultStartFade=10240.0 See in the example you have both the string and the input number ex. 10240.0. Highlight and cut only the number after the equal sign. The desired string is all that is left in the find box see example. ex. fLightLODDefaultStartFade= Select find. The search feature will highlight the desired line. Now place your blinking cursor at the equal sign and use your Control V or Paste to paste in the updated number you want to use in the mod.

All these mods + a true iron sight mod will makes this a perfect experience. You could also inject ENB binaries and mess with the night environmental lighting to tone done the weird colour errors with the windows at night; for some reason you can see them even if it's pitch black. Almost like they're glowing. ENB can fix this and it could be literally the only change it makes so you'll likely forget you'll have it installed. Especially when you start another playthrough.

What you said about stability makes sense for mods that actually add things like scripts, but I'm pretty sure replacing textures with slightly higher resolution textures does nothing to affect the engine.
@WhiteCollarGames4 жыл бұрын
Ya a lot of people actually have this misunderstanding but I can understand why. So adding textures does in fact impact engine level operations. Textures have to be loaded into memory (an engine level operation) the more of these texture archives you add to your game the longer your load times will be. It may seem unnoticeable at first but it can quickly stack up. It's not just quantity of archives either, its also quantity and size of the textures in those archives. For beefy machines they can naturally handle more of these archives easier than an average off the shelf pc. Scripts are actually way less impact full on load times than things like textures. Scripts do have the danger of causing save bloat but naturally I avoid those mods that have save bloat problems and don't recommend them to you.
@nikobellicchief084 жыл бұрын
I've been modding Fallout games since Fallout 3 released and I whole heartedly agree in your opinion on the texture mods. Consistency and stability is key in my opinion to enjoying a game. Can't tell you how many times I've downloaded 4k textures and SweetFx mods only to see that the character faces looked dated. In pursuit of trying to make the game look prettier, all I could focus on is what mod I could download to make something look prettier. I recently played an unmodded playthrough of New Vegas and I found myself more focused on the gameplay and story rather than wonder why my M4's textures look better than my gloves!

I found the solution, DO NOT put the DUI_F3a11.zip into FOMM you have to extract that and then put the .FOMOD file into the FOMM

Some things changed, like the UI. Your link no longer works for it. I found one but it doesn't have the hot fix, may be a different version. I downloaded and activated the weather one but it didn't give the the options like it did you, can you help with this? I'm doing everything just like you have

@whitecollargames I like these videos as they are informative while remaining simple and I was following along with the previous video and got everything installed even after a fose launcher error saying I had an incompatibile Fallout version. Everything else installed fine and I got it to boot up without the window gap. Where I got lost and tbh screwed up, is this vid with the Darnified Ui as I can't seem to find any downloads for it like yours, only one frome gamebanana that doesn't have the DUI files. I mucked up my game trying to manually install it without FOMM and will be doing a clean install of my game as well as what you covered in the first vid. My very long-winded question is should I bother going for Darnified Ui or try and find FOMM alternatives? Is there an alternate place to get the fomad version of it? The vanilla ui is so large I'd really like to fix that. Thanks for your time and for making these vids. 👍

I do not know of any alternatives, I wish you the best of luck but honestly whatever solution you find that works should be sufficient
@calebwooldridge2422 жыл бұрын
@@WhiteCollarGames thanks for the reply. I may just look for any other mods that resize hud or menus. That's mostly all I want is a smaller hud/text, beyond that, vanilla display customization was fine for me.

Hi having a bit of a problem adding fomods. After adding them its gives me a message about "something bad has happend" and then closes the program. However it stills adds the mod and i can acctivate it after. Do you know how to fix this problem? Also having problem with everytime i click on package manager it say i have to logg in and i can only get past i by pressing cancel and that takes me to the fomod install page. If i try to login it gives me the something bad has happend" and then closes the program.

I have the same load order and it crashes at the startup screen (not being caused from the windows live) because it starts up perfectly fine when I deactivate the mods any ideas?

Deactivate the Dam UI support for FWE and it might work, it worked here.

I personally disagree with the stand out textures point, I think that this is an irreverent point if you manage to successfully add these new HQ textures to everything that is seen. When I remastered fallout NV i was able to improve all of the textures making none of them stand out and the game just look great. And there are mods out there to do this with fo3 too. anyway nice vid

i watched the first vid and you never explained how to do the mods folder that you talked about at 21:25
@harrisonmorgan74923 жыл бұрын
Exactly, i was wondering that too. But all you have to do is put a folder in the fallout main folder and just call it "mods"

You make this sound like its a super purist experience and then you recommend to change the whole game with FWE. Cmun bruh.

6:55 So the mod basically just deletes the original art style? Wow what a ''perfect list'', might as well play Fallout 4 instead.

modsreloaded doesn't offer a download link to darnUI. Why is this specific mod a pain in the ass to use anyway? The oblivion version first now FO3.

Shoutout to White Collar Games for making a super clear and easy to follow tutorial. Decided to pick up FO3 after not playing it in years and these mods are basically exactly what I'm looking for, not going crazy trying to make every little thing perfect, just a few mods that go a long way to making the play experience that much better. One issue I had while doing this process was that FOMM would crash after every time I would add a new mod in the package manager, but upon reopening FOMM I was still able to activate the mods, and upon starting up a new game everything is working fine. FWE is great! Had my first firefight and I didn't think combat in this game could actually ever be intense, considering in Vanilla all you do is stand in front of enemies and shoot them while they shoot you and you just spam heal, I'm liking this a lot already!

I was wondering which version of "Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch" did you use as well as mods?

@@jodiepalmer2404 Hey, unfortunately it has been some time so I no longer remember. I'm sure whatever is the most recently uploaded/updated version of the patch is the one you're gonna want to get.
