I played Skyrim and fall out 4, years ago as a young kid/man. Over the last few months I felt very bored. Work, gym, wife, kids, repeat. I missed gaming, I almost forgot I used to play and enjoy video games since life kind of took me as a prisoner. I bought the series x last week and searched the Microsoft store. My wife made fun of me saying “I didn’t know you liked video games omg”. I told her I wanted something to just relax to…I was gonna just download fallout 4 again and replay it but I saw New Vegas for $7. I was skeptical at first since it seemed so old but man.. this game has captured me. It gave me that feeling Skyrim did all those years ago. I think about it at work, I wanna play when I’m out shopping, I look forward to Friday so I can stay up until 3 am playing. New Vegas made me love gaming again and it’s made me remember apart of my that I forgot.

I remember Old World Blues being pretty great for how it amps the "Science" aspect of the game up to a hundred, with some pretty good weaponry and, a personal favorite, plenty of nods to the Venture Brothers cartoon. Dead Money was another great spin on the "Heist" story type. With interesting characters, setting and how it was very survival focused. The base game certainly remains an outstanding piece of architecture on how to make an RPG, but the expansions certainly added quite a bit.

When I was playing the NV for the first time, I've stumbled upon a quest about rescuing NCR soldiers from a mine. I went in, killed some legion boys, opened the cages and... the quest ended. This freaked me out, because it seemed too simple. So I reloaded and sneaked in to explore the mine before saving the soldiers. Found nothing. Then I put on some legion armor and tried speaking to the legion troops in the mine. Still nothing! This quest was driving me crazy, so I resorted to googling all the possible outcomes. And, surprise-surprise, I instantly found out that the alternative solutions were cut from the final release. And then it hit me. The rest of the game was so AWESOME, that a simple quest "Do exactly the thing you were asked to do and get rewarded" didn't fit in. To this day I've never experienced anything like that. New Vegas is still the best RPG ever made.

Remake it on a more stable engine (regardless of graphics) and it would be the perfect game. There are very few modern games with the freedom of choice and personal agency New Vegas offers. Also, all of the factions are amazing and any build can work and get you through the game. In Fallout 4 if you rarely add perk points into combat skills the enemies will be bullet sponges in later levels but in New Vegas that isn't as much of an issue. I made a Charisma/Luck gambler type of character and despite having very few combat traits I had no problem beating the game and didn't even have to fight the final boss due to high speech. Also, being able to choose what factions you want to hinder or help makes for a great time overall. I remember doing a Legion playthrough with an unarmed ballistic fist and high strength/endurance character and that one was one of my favorite run-throughs ever because I looked at things from their perspective.

Not to mention that there are HIDDEN quests in the game that you can easily miss if you don't pay attention! One example being a little story read through notes you can find at the Sarsaparilla Bottling Plant and a counterfeit shack in a field of Cazadors, that are about a group of counterfeiters who slowly meet their demise one by one through bad circumstances, one of them using the last bullet in their gun to end their misery. Games these days rely way too much on technological details instead of making a world feel believable!

One of the main points about the entire fallout franchise is that, even after the end of the world, humanity will still hash out the same arguments, fight over the same things, destroy itself again for personal gain. One of the things I love most about new Vegas is that you don’t have the power to change that, no matter what you do. You can only stand by and aid the group you think is best, and even then people wont be fully happy. Fallout new Vegas illustrates that point especially well, and is part of the reason why I love it so much.

New Vegas is worse than Fallout Tactics.
@arkangelgaming353 жыл бұрын
@Insert_text_here Fallout New Vegas did some cool stuff sure, made some great improvements from Fallout 3 like the crafting and factions but outside of a few good things it did were a ton of just really mediocre features and elements that just make it "Meh" 1. The writing is just terrible. I mean, Fallout games have always been a little cringy, part of the charm and universe... but New Vegas took Fallout 3s bad writing and made it way worse. This affects everything from general dialogue to the quests which leads me to; 2. The story is contradictory and just a confusing mess. The story seemed alright off the start, but then it just loses sight on where it wants to go. You're going from a revenge story which turns out to be bait and switch then you're being errand boy for the rest of the game to groups that dont really matter or feel or sound interesting. A case of too much going on. 3. The gunplay and weapons in general were boring and lackluster and did nothing to improve Fallout 3 bad fighting. 4. The world... my God New Vegas is the worst Map in just about any open world rpg ever. Its literally just rolling hills of desert, canyons that are an eyesore or a few busted buildings here and there. The only interesting place on the map is "The Strip" which is the tiniest, most simple and complex borehole in any fallout game.. I'd rather be stuck in Little Lamplight all day... 5. Lore. Now this is where I split people. Obsidian chose to use their Black Isle established lore which is why they went into NCR territory anyway, but Fallout 1 and 2 are set way before the events of Fallout 3 and in 3 we find out that the Brotherhood is massive and powerful, they had a turnaround in the gap which the Outcasts still fully support, and this gets reinstated with Fallout 4. New Vegas chose to ignore Fallout 3 and make the brotherhood a bunch of cowards hiding in the sand. They werent even doing it for a tactical advantage or to just steer clear of the NCR... they were written to literally fear the NCR which, cool back to the roots kind of lore but again... Fallout 3 is canon and set in a decent gap.. it's just plain lazy writing or ignorance... or both. I can go on, but I feel I've made my point. Now to be clear.. Would I still buy and play new Vegas today? Yes. Because it's still a pretty good game, it's just a shit Fallout game. Just still to this day rather Fallout 3, it's more compelling and honestly if Fallout 4 had more RPG elements then it would be a 100% gutterstomp. As the years have gone on, New Vegas thrives in 2 communities; A. The people who love mods and nodding as New Vegas is one of the most modded games of all time. B. The people who hate Bethesda and play New Vegas because its technically not theirs. So in short, bad writing, bad story, bad characters, bad map and not enough improvement from fallout 3.

29:00 Quick-select exists on PC, so i guess it exists in some way on other platforms. Just go to inventory in Pip Boy with item you want to set and hold a button from 1-9 on keyboard and select it. -You need stims? Set 7 and click it whenever you are low on hp (but autostims exists) -You want to switch from 10mm pistol to SMG? Set 2 and press it in need of damage -Low on AP? Press 6 and enjoy that sweet sound of jet inhaling And if you double press button set to weapon, it will unequip the weapon, leaving you with bare fists.

To those asking 'how?', first grab the stealth boy from inside the Schoolhouse Safe in Goodsprings head to Sloan, facing towards Quarry Junction, turn right and head into the cliffside. Carry on giving the Quarry itself a wide berth, until you arrive at Neil's Shack, say hello to the friendly mutant and make a save. Next use your stealth boy and start to ascend Black Mountain, you're looking for a trail on the left side of the road, a dead NCR soldier will be present, watch out for bear traps and an Indian Jones style rolling rock trap. After navigating that, head up the trail and you'll arrive near to the NCR Safehouse, New Vegas in sight and next to no enemies between you and them. I'd also advise stopping off at the Repconn Facility for a very nice weapon if you can solve the dungeons puzzle ;)

@@MatthewRoles see I know what you're talking about but I always took a slightly different path. I would jump against the cliffside (glitching to the cliff) and move forward and constantly jump. If a deathclaw or two followed me then it was all about using dynamite & grenades to cripple their legs and lead them toward the strip walls so the snipers could help dwindle their health.

29:00 - Act Man, New Vegas does have a quick-select system. However, it's never explained to the player, and resets anytime you have to give up your weapons (like the casinos). If you are in a menu, hold one of the number keys (1 or 3-8), and then select either a weapon or health item, you can hit that same number to use said item without diving into the menu. I use it for stimpaks and weapon swapping.

@donald554823 жыл бұрын
Came here to say this. Only 7 spots though since up or 2 is reserved for changing ammo types. It is still more efficient to use the pip-boy to pause and heal since you can continue to take damage while you spam your stimpack hotkey, so his point still stands that its designed around the pause. Same problem Breath of the Wild and Skyrim has. Admittedly hardcore mode was an attempt to fix it.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas both need a remaster. if they happen to use mods to achiveve that, I would contact and pay the creators a fair sum for their use if they demand it. I don’t necessarily need a remaster (There’s a certain level nostalgia and charm in the old graphics and gameplay). I think it's important to note, that it's not just having choices that make a game good. It's if those choices mean anything. Something a lot of choose your own path games fail is to just decisions that might lead to an extra cutscene or some dialogue. Such as Bioware's most recent games. NV is amazing and fun just because it feels like your choice will alter the fate of the Mojave.
