KZbin memberships... seriously? This channel is not nearly large enough for that. You have no channel identity, even. Is this a hulk channel? A movie review channel? A comic books channel? No idea. All I know is you got a lot of views on a hulk video so you keep trying to recreate that instead of creating something new. There's only so much hulk media. Your videos are well made, which is more than I can say about 99% of youtube channels... but making channel memberships when most of your videos get like 700 views is ridiculous and comes off as very ignorant

IM SO GLAD YOU MADE THIS, I grew up on this show and aways love the storytelling and tragedy of it. I also think the pilot is a masterpiece. There’s not enough people talking about this and thus not a lot of serious content on it on KZbin. Hope this video blows up. Because this video is a treat to all the fans of this show thank you!

I assume most fans of this show are not also on youtube watching videos like this. Everyone that watched this when it aired (and remembers it) is at least 50+ now. Everyone I know 50+ would never watch movie or show reviews on here. They'll just go watch the movie/show.

One of the only places for Great and thoughtful Hulk content on KZbin. There is a serious lack of that since Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and even the other Avengers tend to get more and better content. But you really pump out quality Hulk content that breaks the norm of “Ruffalo sucks Norton forever.” You give credit and praise were it’s do for each and every version.

@OnesieLightYear This TV series pilot movie was the first 'Hulk' media I ever consumed and when I watched it for the first time as a kid at age 7 in 2003, the shot where the Hulk reaches out his hand to the kid by that lake freaked me the hell out! I then saw the 1st-4th episodes of the 1996 animated 'Hulk' TV series(Fun fact: in said animated TV series, the Hulk is voiced by Lou Ferrigno.) via a VHS I got and after that, I saw the 2003 live-action 'Hulk' movie via renting it on VHS from Blockbuster.

I'm going to chime in here, 6 days after it was posted. First time viewer. But I really like how you've started this video (I'm about 7 1/2 minutes in), and I really think that it will do well. I was 10 years old when this show debuted, and despite always being very "immature", the show had me hooked from the first episode on. I still watch it on occasion, as I own it on iTunes. I grew up in a very interesting era, and was exposed to a lot of "adult" themed stuff, while still being exposed to "children's" programing. But The Incredible Hulk helped prepare me for my own inner demons that would emerge soon enough. Perhaps that's why it resonated so well with me. You see, my entire life has been one traumatic event after another. I lost my parents before I could remember them, and like David, I would end up losing my first wife to that cloaked skeleton with a sickle. I damned near lost my second wife to a car accident (as David lost his), but the first one, I lost to cancer (Ovarian). Events like that which I have had to cope with in life, always bring back things that I learned earlier in life, such as this show. I was also bullied a lot as a child, and eventually, my own "beast within" emerged, much like the Hulk. No, I didn't grow to 8 feet tall, nor did I turn green.... but something inside of me would "snap" if physically attacked, and I would become almost insanely strong, and did not feel pain until well after it was over. Anyway..... I'm going to keep this comment open, and reply to specific parts, given my own personal experience. Using time stamps as a reference point. 10:25 - Trust me on this, you do NOT "get passed" losing your spouse in one year. My first year being widowed is an absolute blur. That Bixby could do that performance so accurately is astounding. Also, to note, my first wife died a little over 18 years ago. I didn't decide to "date" again until 3 years had gone by, and even then, it was a very cautious thing. I never wanted to be hurt THAT deeply ever again. Losing Rose (my first wife) destroyed me. 18:48 - I just noticed something I never noticed before.... David and his wife slept on the same exact sides of the bed that Rose and I did. Not really relevant, but "interesting" nonetheless. 19:25 - I get where Kenneth is coming from, and I don't disagree with it. With that said, my particular "demon" would only emerge when physically attacked. Sure, I could "lose my tempter" over dumb shit, and I might even break something over it. But I never got physical with anyone unless they put their hands on me. May sound weird, but it's two completely different things. 22:20 - This entire summation, right here! His "inner demon" is not evil, and like mine, once the threat has been dealt with, it's over. Nothing else needs to be done. 26:10 - I think that was something that I really loved about the show in its initial run... it never "spoke down to" us (the audience). But even children's programing back then didn't do that. Even though a lot of kids watched the show, we didn't feel patronized by it. We also understood the themes being dealt with. Whether it was "made for kids" or not, it didn't treat us as morons. 30:40 - Having had my own inner beast "events", this tracks. In some cases I didn't remember the events for days, and in a few, I don't remember them at all. Not remembering at all is actually scarier than remembering 3-4 days later. I could have done damned near ANYTHING and have no knowledge of it. 33:10 - And a very powerful story device it's used as. Being widowed, and having had lots of female friends over the years, she did the right thing in "pulling back" despite her innate desire to touch and comfort him (it's part of the mothering instinct MOST women have). She realized that he was not ready for such a thing, yet. As I said, his trauma was still "fresh" in his mind. Also, David is VERY aware of his inability to touch her. Trust me, he is actually "hyper-aware" of it. He is trying desperately to not get "close enough" to someone, because losing THAT person would be too painful. Yes, he does love her, but in as much of a familial way as he loved his wife, if "different". So, same but different. It's a "defense mechanism" that we use, and we are only actually aware of it in the most extreme circumstances. Dammit.... I have to go take care of something. But I'm saving this comment, and will add to it (in a reply) once that's done. Great video so far (40 minutes in), and I'm looking forward to finish watching it!

I thought the moment at Elaina's grave was excellently acted by Bill Bixby. But for the look in his eye and the expression after he says, " but you never said it." Both express a fleeting moment that he almost grasps the moment Elaina did say it, but it drifted away before he remembered it. That sold that moment for me. Excellent deep dive. Thank you.

This show and Ang Lee's Hulk got the trauma side of the Hulk right. People forget that the Hulk is literally Banner's inner child trying to protect his mother from his abusive father. He was not strong enough back than, so now he has to be "...the strongest one there is...".

Usually I can’t stand adaptations that look down upon the source material. Especially comic book adaptations that are afraid to be too comic booky. But in this case, they elevated the material by adding new layers and developing complex character struggles that resonate even today.

Comic books, in general, weren’t respected in the 60’s and 70’s, because they were viewed as disposable, campy stuff for Kids. That’s why Ken Johnson wanted the hulk to be an adult psychological drama, so that it wouldn’t be compared to the more campy Adam West Batman live action show
@HeavyMetal95Ай бұрын
Considering over the fact of how particularly of when they made the incredible hulk TV series in 1977 they changed the name from Bruce banner to David banner because Kenneth Johnson who worked on the incredible hulk pilot series had to pick the name as David banner named after his son And during the scene in the incredible hulk where the hulk meets the girl by the lake references Frankenstein The only difference is that Frankenstein throws the girl in the lake But the hulk doesn't do that Some of the filming locations were The hulk brings Elaina marks to the woods It was filmed on June 15th on the back lot of universal on these hidden roads where the flat tire occurred originally

I wrote my own version of the pilot. Its still one of the best Marvel stories. It proves you dont need fancy fx to tell a quality story. Not having fx really forces you to need good writing. I like the tv movies as well. I watch them still. The show itself is alright but it suffers from repetition and sillyness. The tv movies are darker and more entertaining.

Personally, I like the multiple personality disorder version more; I just find it more interesting and think it has more writing potential. But I'm not against the primitive state Bruce Banner version. That can, and is, done well too.
@dodgyyoutuber95602 ай бұрын
@@Valtuem i think it’s interesting but I also think it takes away from Bruce’s personality if you take everything interesting about him but just make it a completely different person who he’s just dragged around by, rather than it being a suppressed aspect of his personality that anyone can relate to. My sister had anger issues as a result of bullying when she was a teen. She didn’t want to leave her room cos she felt like everytime she interacted with anyone her anger would leap out. Then afterwards she’d lock herself back in her room and feel bad about it. I feel that’s a great example of what the hulk is about, at least to me. It’s something a lot of people can relate to, even sweet mousy people who let everyone walk all over them, like Banner. I like that Hulk is just the manifestation of someone who’s just snapped. Also, for stories like world war hulk or Planet hulk it’s all about Hulk. It feels like Hulk is a compeltely different character who’s branched far away from Banner. It feels weird. Hulk has an entire life. He has a wife and kids and Banner’s not a part of any of that. He’s freakin having sex and Banner’s just sitting in the back there out of control. It’s fricken weird. It’s rapey. I like Banner more when Hulk IS banner. DID is interesting but I prefer other characters like Moon night to explore it. I guess I’m ok with it being explored but I wish that my prefered version of the hulk was preserved. Like, if they were two characters from alternative universes so I can keep Banner/Hulk as my favourite character (cos I see them as the same person.
@theashwoodfaerie2Ай бұрын
Hulk outright says many times that he is NOT Banner. And the Hulk being an alter doesn't diminish Hulk being Banner in his most primitive state. The Hulk is literally Bruce's anger manifested, stuck in the mind of a child chucking an eternal tantrum. All children up until the ages of 7-9 are primitive in nature. The Hulk is the creation in the mind of a young child about the rage he felt towards his abusive father. @@dodgyyoutuber9560
