@jenniferbailey15806 ай бұрын
In the middle scenes the costumer had not torched their relationships with skilled hobbyists willing to lend the part of their “good enough” make that fits an actor somewhere in the shot (looking at several movies where the background and extras actually were reenactors. Or aboriginal people who have legitimate modern use for garments that fit in the time. Until the production management gets really insulting to a key player on the volunteer side

Honestly I’m imagining some kind of 6 part Sunday evening drama show that opens with this. The modern characters are trying to figure out something their ancestors managed to obfuscate and lie their way out of anyone finding out at the time. Having the same actors play their ancestors in flashbacks might be too much. Or maybe not. This scene is put together with clips from lots of scenes.

Basically some lady (lady a) told another lady (lady b) that her husband was doing horse races and I think lost money then the lady b decided to throw shade at lady a calling her a goldigger so lady a decided to take none of this shit and brought up that she knew about one of lady b's secret in a great power move moment. The secret is related to a letter that lady b gave to someone else when lady a has a piece of information she could give to that specific person that could fuck lady b's relationship to that person. Lady b decides to then change "the will" and give in to lady a's demands. So we can assume Lady a's information is blackmail worthy. Out of context it does feel like Lady a escalated things but tbf Lady b's goldigging comment was out of line.

A few years ago, someone gave me a dvd of one of their Christmas specials. I hadn't seen it before, only heard about it. For about the first ten minutes of watching, I was thinking, "Huh, I thought it was a period show." Then the old schoolhouse pops up with little boys wearing suspenders, and I realize ... it is actually intending to be a period show. Random people would be dressed in Edwardian-ish clothing, but everyone else was completely modern. I think it's more lack of effort than a budget issue- give me half an hour in a thrift shop, and I could have given them something more period appropriate. The main character appeared to buy her clothing at Kohls. Also, those beach waves all the ladies were sporting....I'm terrible with my hair, but I'm pretty sure a bun would have been easier.

I once saw a production of As You Like It that purposefully did this. The costumes started with Shakespearean accuracy and throughout costume changes, gradually became more modern. Hey, just a thought, have you ever seen the Canadian Murdoch Mysteries series? It started in the 1890s and has been going for so long it's set around 1907 now. The costumes are phenomenal. They pay a lot of attention to detail, use real and recreated pieces, wear the proper undergarments for the correct form, and do hair and make-up accurately (mostly, cause most of the actors have shorter hair). There's even whole episodes dedicated to fashion, corsetry, make-up, etc. And something I've always loved is that the character actually reuse outfits. I think you'd really like it.
